A potentially Suicidal 9 year old girl was handcuffed and pepper sprayed by Police Officers who were called in to assist.

The police are the underdogs here.
They're constantly under attack from billion dollar companies, including but not limited to, the mainstream media.
The mainstream media run dozens of multimillion dollar shows about how awesome law enforcement is every day and release movies every year about how good and just cops are. COPS started in Portland starring members of the same police force that harassed a random black guy by leaving dead raccoons on his doorstep while in uniform and on duty and then the Union got them their jobs back in the case that is still brought up as precedent for every single one of these bastards. Christ, how oblivious are you?

Wasn't COPS cancelled, and are now only producing episodes for countries outside the US?

And now the only shows about LEOs are about specialist teams like NCIS, SWAT, Detectives, FBI, and such?
So yeah, the normal boots on the ground, the sheriffs and beat cops, patrols, etc, are constantly spat on.

Yeah, less than a year ago, in the midst of widespread outrage, during which cops gassed the city that they still mention every episode so badly there will likely be permanent effects on the populace, COPS was taken off of American network television. All those other cop shows though? Still on.

“Law and Order is insufficient deference toward our beautiful boys in blue.” And Blue Bloods, Brooklyn 99 (or whatever it’s titled), America’s Most Wanted, Dateline, Hot Pursuit, and many more are still airing.

I don't think Canada is a magical place. My plan is that after I get set up and make some money as a pilot over there, I'm actually going to try to get some land and retreat into the wilderness.

Get my own beater plane and use it to fly to and from work.

I'm trying to remove myself as much away from humanity as I can, while knowing I don't have the practical skills to completely live off of the land as of yet. But once I get to that skill level? Society Be Damned.
You'll have a spare room, right? You won't even know I'm there.

I'm pretty good at building stuff and digging holes.

How?
By reporting on stuff like this?
Imagine if "black person suspected of ______" was daily front-page news. Imagine what that kind of fear and malice that would instill towards black people.
People would be crying about how the media is racist, and is part of the problem, and how it's unfair to elevate the misdeeds of a small percentage of all black people.

Law and Order? Mostly detectives and lawyers.
Blue Bloods? 3/4ths of the main characters aren't beat cops.
99? All detectives.
America's Most Wanted? About fugitives
Dateline? Not even about cops.
Hot Pursuit? May as well be the Andy Griffith show.

I'm looking around at cbs news in the crime section, and I'm not seeing a single mugshot of a black man. All just white people.
I had to go "below the fold" and click "show more" before I saw a single mugshot of a black person accused of stealing almost a million dollars. So not front page news.

The first one was literally mocking you for thinking cops don’t count as cops because they’re not beat cops and wasn’t part of my list, but ok.
Yes, but they still have a section of every episode about beat cops.
It has several major characters that are not detectives.
...and the cops pursuing them, including interviews with said cops.
...it’s about crimes and includes regular interviews with police officers.
It’s literally just COPS. It’s the exact same show.

Everyone step back. Houseman is twisting this discussion about pepper spraying a child, into a quibble about whether tv shows are nice enough to cops, and how they're the real victims.

It's fucking disgusting, that trolling can fuck right off. I beg no one else to feed that line of reasoning for him.

Yeah, I recommend you and everyone else ignore the head house Uncle Ruckus slave in the room right now. Dude doesn't care about anyone but himself. As far as I'm concerned is the same as Kanye West, hardcore Trump supporters, and those capital rioters.

I wonder about how the "potentially suicidal" girl will react to the treatment. I mean generally speaking, most people consider suicide, when they feel like they are unwanted, in a big, uncaring world, where nobody gives a shit about them. So imagine how negatively reinforcing it probably is, to have cops called on you, and find yourself cuffed, tossed into a squad car, threatened with mace by a female cop (in theory the more likely empathetic of the ones on site, at least in the mind of a child), and to have the others just say to do it anyway, like it's a chore. And then to have them actually mace you. I mean, as far as "examples of a society that doesn't give a shit about you" that's pretty high up there.

I respect this. You're attacking the argument, and the topicality of the argument, instead of the person. Thank you.

I've had certain parties on block for a while. I sometimes I have take them off of ignore to see why people are losing their minds over a comment that's hidden to me.

I, sadly, once again had to take one of the parties off of ignore to see why people are upset this time. I have to say, almost every time I take that party off of ignore, I am reaffirmed I made the right choice.

Troll or no troll, the argument was made that the Police are the ones who were mistreated in this plight... when the police themselves said there was no excuse for their actions.

At a news conference on Sunday, Interim Rochester Police Chief Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan said that the police's treatment of the girl was not acceptable.

"I'm not going to stand here and tell you that for a 9-year-old to have to be pepper-sprayed is OK. It's not," she said. "I don't see that as who we are as a department, and we're going to do the work we have to do to ensure that these kinds of things don't happen."
I consider this a twofer. Bringing to light a serious injustice, and while doing so, creating the thread that was the straw that broke the camel's back for many a poster.

If they already repent of their actions and are striving to make sure it never happens again, then why make this thread? Just to beat up on the police some more? Why declare you're leaving the country? Because you hate it when people admit their mistakes and correct course to be better?

We can all see what you're doing.

Spreading a story to explain a mindset? To increase the possibility of follow through on the lip service? The police "admit fault" on the news often enough. It's an easy sound byte for a captain or chief to make. The problem is how often that leads to no meaningful punishment or change, once the news cycle moves on.

People SHOULD know when those empowered to police them are grossly misstepping. People knowing is one of the only avenues of response, because cops protect cops.

Did you even watch the footage? There are 6 or 7 cops onsite. Yet this guy felt it was necessary to pepper spray the hand cuffed child. No other officer intervened or took him to task. None said "Hey let's not do that" to him, as she hysterically cried that he was threatening to pepper spray her. The footage ends with the handcuffed child begging them to wipe her eyes (her hands are cuffed behind her back) as they close the doors of the cruiser and leave her in distress.

I get you're doing a cute bit for your fun little internet games, but uh...
