Just as a random question, can anyone give a primer on scottish slang, terminology, and other assorted jargon?

As an addendum to the OP, can anyone tell me what in blazes it means to "haver". I've wondered ever since the first time I heard "500 miles", but I've never quite been curious enough to spend a second googling it

"Haud yer wheesht!" - "Hold your tongue/shut your mouth!"

"Ah dinnae ken" - "I dont' know."

"Touch not the cat bot a glove" - "Don't touch the cat without a glove (a motto used by several Scottish clans, including my ancestral clan Macpherson)."

(Sarcastically) "Aye, right!" - "Definitely not!"

"****" - an insult or term of endearment, depending on the person you're referring to.

Wait, Scots use it just like the Aussies do?
Mate! Where do you think we got the idea from?

just a small thing but its the cat that should be gloved not you, im not sure if you knew that or not but i doubt others would understand from the context.

OP my favourite scots word has always been "dreich". it means a really grey overcast day with maybe a bit of a mizzle coming down but not propperly raining. it just feels to sum up the weather so well in such a simple word

Scottish? Get drunk off whiskey, eat the worst parts of a sheep, scream 'FREEEDDOOOMM!' then get into a bar fight. Congrats, you can now communicate like a Scottsman.

These also apply to the North of England too, though some not as common as others, and depending on where in the North can come with a just as un-understandable accent as well

And these two as well are quite common up North.
