OP my favourite scots word has always been "dreich". it means a really grey overcast day with maybe a bit of a mizzle coming down but not propperly raining. it just feels to sum up the weather so well in such a simple word
These also apply to the North of England too, though some not as common as others, and depending on where in the North can come with a just as un-understandable accent as wellLaughing Man said:wee : little
pish : that's piss
aye : yes
cannae: can not
clap: to stroke (stroking a cat or dog)
maw: mum
da: dad
fanny: vagina
eejit: idiot
chib: knife
coupon: face
dobber: idiot or stupid person but it's also used to describe a semi erect cock (she gave a me a dobber)
jobby: crap / poo
knob: penis
fag: cigarette
And these two as well are quite common up North.Dwarfman said:Skiving - Avoiding work or chores
