Margaret Thatcher is up there as one of the greatest leaders ever, second only to stalin

I know my conservative friends (not wacky ones) and relatives (wacky ones) idolize her.
I know Valerie Bodin of the USSR thought she was rather intimidating

Im not really sure, but apparently Yes, minister was one of her favorite shows so thats a point in her favor

She was Reagan's sidekick, which is reason enough for me to hate her (British btw). She well with the Falklands, but allowing American nuclear missiles to be placed in Britain was a very dangerous favour. Any possibility of us being exempt from any nuclear scuffle between two very powerful idiots was destroyed with that.

Also, she completely fucked up the country and was incredibly capitalist, which was very, very bad for the majority of people.

I`m Romanian and about all I know about her is that she was a big fan on Nuclear Power Stations..and that her nickname was the Iron Lady..but nothing else

I've heard of her, and I know the just of the Falkland Islands war. While it was over just a few islands of no real significance, a state has a right to enforce it's sovereignty.
An entire war cannot be attributed to one person. To blame her for it all is unfair.
And my British girlfriend told me that Thatcher screwed over the British working class, but that's the extent of my knowledge. However, there must have been reasons; she wasn't just trying to be mean. I'm not saying it was right, but to look at things as as simply good or bad is unfair and, in some cases, potentially dangerous.

I am Canadian. I have heard of her but I have exactly no idea what she's famous for. My guess would be politics or a writer. Wait.. was she a leader of Britain? That's as much as I know >_>

Well i'm in Glasgow, she's really not popular here at all after the shipyard closures but i know a Chinese guy, loves her. When we compare governments he always says that we need someone like her again as she is a 'strong leader' because the ones we have atm are more interested in votes than keeping the country afloat.

so while she royally screwed us i think it would be interesting to have someone like her in charge nowadays, could probably fix the mess we're in in no time

It's a good point; someone like Thatcher wouldn't be afraid to make all the savage cuts needed to keep the country going. She wouldn't be popular, she'd probably be hated, but she'd get us through...

Not like our current leaders, with the fixation on popularity

Let's be honest here, the 80s was our greatest decade for so many reasons.
I just wish our current politicians had as much back-bone as Thatcher.

she was heartless, but that's just what the country needed. Coal mining was a declining industry in Britain since the beginning of the 20th century anyway, there was no saving it. However, the falklands did seem a little pointless to me, not to mention thatcher ordered the destruction of a retreating argentinian ship, technically making her a war criminal.

It fell just short of violence... it was a verbal attack. I know Brits aren't popular, but I've never seen us inspire such hate. Made me kinda proud, then ashamed as it was Maggie Thatch who inspired events

I remember seeing her on the TV when I was little, but otherwise didn't hear much about her while growing up.

I never really understood the Falklands War. We weren't taught much about it, but it seems odd to me that a country like Argentina would challenge Britain. That just seems like a bad idea. It also seems logically unreasonable to want islands so far away from your country. Unless there's a vast wealth of resources that you can't live without, why bother?

To be fair, Argentina started that war. Okay the Falklands are far away from Britain, but they (and their people) fall under the protection of The Crown. Argentina invaded, we kicked them out. Simple.

There's no 'could have avoided here'. Being nice only works if the other people want it to.

Again, they invaded, we defended. So shush.
