I guess the real question is; would a Chaotic Neutral character sacrifice innocents for personal pleasure?

They would not get pleasure out of seeing others pain, but they would rather have the money.

EDIT: I am reminded of the part from Pirates of the Caribbean 3 where Jack Sparrow has to sacrifice 100 people for his own life (Jack being Chaotic Neutral personified) and he agrees
whole-hastily

I figure it would be Chaotic Neutral to take the money. Freeing the slaves for no reward seems too Good, but if just taking the money makes you feel too Evil just kill the slavers, loot their possesions, then leave the slaves to their own devises. In fact that would actually be my first choice come to think of it.

Chaotic Neutral is defined by "free spirt" just consider what your character would do rather than the alignment. A chaotic neutral character could do ether, and sense there not lawful they can break a personal code of honor from time to time. And if your alignment switches its fine unless you louse powers.

In a heartbeat.

In this case, if your character anticipates a life-threatening fight, should he turn against the slavers, he will not fight. Because above all else, his own life counts the most, followed by self-gratification in the form of entertainment, personal advancement and greed.

However, taking the money and later revisiting the establishment to poison the slavers would be an acceptable option as well.

Take the money if your life is by reasonable expectations on the line sohuld it come to a fight. BUT, if I was a CN character, I wouldn't let it stay there. Poison the slavers, buy the slaves and free them, burn the entire place down with everyone inside... It feels to me that this should not stays a quick good-v-evil decision. Something chaotic needs to be done, as allowing the slavers to continue as they were is accepting a form of *shudders in despise, barely believing the word he is about to utter *....order. *Spits on the ground*

Perhaps killing them all, perhaps tipping them off to a rival slavers' group. Perhaps killing off a few selected leaders or enslaving them to your own benefit and amuzement.... possibilities are endless. Self-gratification and amuzement, regardless of good and evil, is the byword of CN.

1. Kill Slavers.

2. Free Slaves.

3. Kill Slaves.

That should just about do it.

EDIT: 4. Sell there looted possesions.
See, I'm with this guy. I know it's not really how you play CN, but it's the most fun. And make sure you say "It's cool, I'm Chaotic Nuetral.", in character, to those slaves as you do it, and everything will be a-Ok.

I say chaotic neutral is more loose than what alot of people are saying. I think it just meens your character does whatever would please them most at the time. If you character has a problem with slavery (like mine invariably do... I just really have a problem with slavery IRL or in games) then he would have no qualms about laying down his personal law and stomping every slaver in the room (or backstab if you are a rogue and not a barbarian... mine almost invariably are barbarian...) if he was cool with it and wanted some cash he might ask for a bribe, if he just didn't care he would walk on.
