Hi, I'm a PC gamer and I don't hate console gamers. That doesn't mean I don't hate how our platform gets shafted so often.

I need a fairly grunty PC for my artwork, so PC gaming costs me nothing except for the cost of the games. If I wanted to get into console gaming (bleurgh) I'd have to find the money for the console and then an extra AU$20-30 per game. So very not worth it for me.WaaghPowa said:

Why do they want to ban video games and fox news?
I personally do honestly view the PC as a superior gaming platform to the console. You can get better graphics, more power, more controls, don't have to pay to play online (outside of your internet provider obviously), the availability and ease of installing mods and the fact you can use it for heaps of other programs and uses. Consoles just can't match this except that they get lots of console exclusive titles, which really irks me.
That said, I don't view myself as inherently superior or any such nonsense for preferring to play on the pc. (Though some of the COD and HALO fanboys can be so goddam annoying- much like any fanboy's though I suppose).
Ultimately fanboys will be fanboy's; the internet provides the opportunity for endless amounts of anonymous douchbaggery.

I would point out the old cry of the console gamer, which is valid point, cost. I use to be both a console gamer and a PC gamer, mainly console when I was a kid, mainly PC in my early teens, and now I am 90% console, only playing flash games and MMO's on my PC(because they are the only thing it can run).zehydra said:

For example, 2 years ago I bought a 360 Elite bundle that came with controller, headset, and 2 games(Halo 3 and Fable 2), for 400 bucks. During the same summer, my dad bought me a new PC(no monitor) which cost a little over 400 bucks.
Over that two years my 360 has played every game perfectly even the latest games of course, I don't look at graphics first but, they are perfect for my tastes.
The PC was the bottom of the bare minimum, since my dad was paying, he wasn't going to be paying extra to make it a gaming PC, he wanted me to have something practical that wouldn't distract me in college. Well, that thing can't even handle games that were new in 2007. I found my new love in MMO's because the developers know that to make more money they have to dial down all the fancy graphics so that pretty much any PC can run their games.
Again, if PC gamers want their platform to see new life, more games developed for it, then they need to get developers to adopt the tactics of MMO developers, make games that will run on just about any PC.
Looking at the 360, I can see that I am going to get at least another gaming year, possibly two, out of it before the next generation.
If PC gaming developed at a console's cycle, making it so that the user, if the user only has the money to buy the cheap level of new hardware, only has to replace their hardware ever four to five years, the PC gaming would see new life and many more users.
With the way things are going, consoles are dominating because it is a cheaper path because the gamer doesn't have to buy a new console every year to year and a half to play the latest games. On top of that the consoles are starting to do things that a PC can do, like surf the internet and stream movies and other videos(Hulu and Netflix), music and games.
The consoles are doing those things with no hardware changes, I just get a free firmware update that allows me to do it.
So PC gamers, that is what you have to get done for your gaming platform to be revitalized, find a way to be cheap and cheap that lasts many years before needing upgrades.

I know several xbox360 games in real life. They treat me just as badly as PC users ever do. Only reason you see all the complaints of PC ranters here because the PC is where the forums are....
Last year and before, I never heard the end of 'get halo this so you can play with us' no matter how much I say I prefer the PC and as soon as I said 'well my xbox 360 has broken twice now, I can't be bothered to go out and buy a new one' they start lecturing me about PCs being even less reliable. I hadn't even MENTIONED my computer.
Truth be told - there are just some idiots out there on both sides of the console/PC flame wars. The only smart replies you'll get to this thread are the non-idiots, this is gonna go on for everything about anything to do with computers, XboxvsPS3 that, PC vs console vs PC that etc etc.

To me, it feels that that group of particularly stuck up, loud PC gamers feel like PC gaming is dying and are just trying to retaliate. Even Bethesda is developing Skyrim on consoles and porting it to PC. It seems like they're just trying to hold on to their PCs even if it means missing out on so many great games.
I don't consider myself superior.
My opinion on what platform is better however, I consider mine the best indeed.

All I really want is some games with some nice big detailed levels and decent AI, too much to ask?

I would like to add that if it weren't for consoles only MMO's like WoW would be made because those are bigger moneymakers. On the other hand they do make games more and more 'accessible' to me easy isn't fun, a challenge is fun, something being though makes it more rewarding to complete, atleast for me that is. I'm a PC only gamer by the way, I just can't get around those clumsy controllers. Graphics I don't really care I mean Oblivion is still a very good game even while it looks outdated. As was covered in Extra Credits it's about aesthetics not graphics. I do enjoy good graphics, but I won't complain when they aren't. The only real disadvantage for me is the these days less and less games have mod tools. That does bother me, because really mod tools make a game live forever look at half-life, look at Fallout and look at The Elder Scrolls.

As I posted in a monster post not far above from this, the whole constant push for better graphics and more power is what is killing the PC gaming industry. With how long console generations have been going between generations, I can buy a console and it lasts me for 4 years or more without having to upgrade to the next generation. If I buy a PC at the bare minimum price of consoles, it won't even play games from four years ago. If I buy a PC with some of the latest gaming hardware(usually double the cost of consoles at the start of a new console generation), I will be able to use it for gaming for maybe at most a year and a half before I have to upgrade.Rems said:

Yet on this forum you never seem to see console players admit that they have elitists in their ranks. Another thing I think PC elitists may have over console ones(but they are both trolls) is that they accept the limitations of their hardware. You will never see a PC gamer Elitist arguing that a KB+M is better for 3D platform games so why do console gamers continue to argue that a controller is as good as or better than a mouse? I don't know. Fair enough if you prefer one or the other that is no problem. Since we are talking hardware here I can say that a kb+mouse is better for FPS, RTS, MMO and most RPG games. While a controller is better for TPS, Platforming games, Fighting games, Driving games and Action games(of the style of PoP and DMC). This is like arguing a controller is better than an arcade stick with Fighting games. It isn't so don't do it.
I mean my god some of the arguments you get off non gamers in real life who think they are gamers are fucking appalling. First off I have never seen a PC person go out of their way to soot down consoles in real life. I have however, been told that the 360 has better graphics than a PC in real life.

Generally when convincing someone a console is better, the heart behind it is it 'convert' that person into that gamer platform. In a way, this could all be fixed it we had cross-platform multiplayer, to stop the need to 'convert' people to a platform because you don't need anymore players in matchmaking because all platforms are in there.
I myself am a PC gamer, and I admit I am quite a patriotic person about it, I suppose it could come from that I have built my PC, its got character, personality. Its in a way my own creation, that I think is one of the beauties of PC gaming. On the other hand that could also apply to consoles as well, I would say my xbox has character ass well.

It isn't that is really only an advantage in late stage. Even then consoles tend to even out with PCs and their upgrade costs due to PCs having cheaper games. So in the long run costs end up as equal.RhombusHatesYou said:
