My short question is what do you think of kids (like me) playing mature video games?. the topic has been beaten into submission more times then DnD was falsly linked to satanic behaviour. My point is im 14 I play GTA,Postal,LoK etc have been since i was 3 and i do not feel like going on a psycotic rage (that only happens during school hours after a long day enduring bullying) Im not the annoying arrogent 12 year olds you have on the internet

Yeah, it depends on the kid. You can't treat all kids according to your perception of one überkid.

Well you seem like the normal person. If you're a nice enough person i don't give a fuck about your age.

I don't really care. As long as your mature enough to know that a shotgun blast to your friend's face won't leave them dead for just a few seconds but will in fact leave him dead good and proper, I don't see the problem.
I think age ratings are just more of a warning for what kind of stuff's going down with the content.

Although if your balls haven't dropped, no matter what you're saying, could I ask that you young kids with your rap music keep the noise down when you're talking online?
You can get very squeaky at times.

I've been playing M games since I was 12, it didn't particularly effect me in any negative ways.

I see no problem.
It just really depends on the kid.
Because some kids are more mature than others and can handle more content aimed at Adults, while others really can be affected in a negative way by Mature Content if they are not ready to see it.

20-year-old's can be just as annoying as a 12-year-old...

Age doesn't bother me in the games, as long as the players are mature. It is, however, the squeaky ones that annoy me the most, and they tend to be younger people. 20-year-old people can make their voice sound horrible too, but they tend to be general dicks instead...

I played GTA and stuff like that when I was like 8-10, hasn't done me any damage (younger, most likely)...

Fact is, you do get more violent from violent video games. That does not, however, mean you're a lunatic. Younger player should, probably, stay away from morally ambigious games. Probably shouldn't try bioshock for onexD

It really does depend on the kid. As long as you aren't on XBL playing MW2 and acting like a complete idiot, it is fine; I would actually encourage you playing these games.

I have no problem with that, mostly because I've been gaming since I was 3-4 years old as well, with games like Duke Nukem 3D and GTA 1. I also played some less violent games like Starcraft or Age of Empires, but I still went on to play violent games including stuff like Madworld on the Wii two years ago.

If you still know what is real and what not, there is no problem. People who act on violence and blame it on a game or what not, were already unstable before their finger could reach the 'start' button. That hasn't got anything to do with age but more in the way of how you intrepid things.
Funny thing is that my father never understood how I could play very violent games though behave friendly and not liking violence in the real world. But maybe some people just like to connect dots that aren't part of the picture.

I don't really believe the playing since 3 part but I don't care how old you are. Don't play a like a douche and play the game type and your okay by me!

It's the people who scream abuse and play CTF but never defend the flag, capture a flag or attempt to do anything other than kill people.

maybe its the aspergers talking, but i have always felt that especialy on pc games i get lip from everyone, even after i prove im better then most of them at the game im playing. (i know that sounds a little arrogent and to be honest im not that good at games but i seem to be better then the clowns who focus on tash talking instead of the game) Then there are all the reports and mobs forming over violance in video games from people who know next to nothing. Also one other problem people asume that because of my age i only play FPS type game which is my most hated genre hell some people think im lying when i say i play Buldurs Gate and Monkey Island. Well thats my rant over i could of gone into full Yatzee mode but i do not want to cramp his style one snarky brit is alright for most people anouther one dictated by hormones might just royaly buger up the escapist

Nobody really cares unless you're a jerk. If you aren't a jerk, I insist that you continue not being a jerk. We don't welcome jerks on the Escapist.

If the child is mature enough to play an M rated game than I have no problem with them playing it. Using racial slurs, swearing constantly, and other such activities prove they don't have the maturity to play and the parents are the ones to blame if any incidents occur due to the child later on.

If your parents let you, then sure. What annoys me is when parents buy games like GTA for their children without even looking at the age rating.

I was 11 when I played the original Fallout. Having your parents walk in on my character blowing a guys head off didn't go well. But yeah, the only time violent games impact children significantly is when they have no other direction in their life. And if they have no parental figures giving them good examples of how to behave as a normal, sane human being, odds are good the kid was gonna turn out fucked up anyway.

well, we're talking about games, so waht gives?
all the big fuzz comes from populistic politicians who themselves cannot seperate reality from games, so who cares
