Even that was only because they rushed it to market and covered up the hardware issues until they were too prevalent to ignore.
The 360 landed with extremely lucky timing for Microsoft. And luck competition, in the sense that Sonys cell architecture for the PS3 was a stupid cocksucker to develop for which made ports and general game development difficult for no reason. As a result the 360 was just easy and since it was in the market first it made everything steamroll for them.

Unfortunately it was like the won the lottery rather than learn any lessons. So they expected to keep winning the lottery, while Sony was learning and fixing its mistakes.

A gaming crash is never going to happen again. People have so many options and places to go nowadays. Steam, GOG, etc. It's not like how it was back in 1983. That crash was mainly in America ( A majority of the outside world was still gaming fine), and that was because every Charleton and shit heel was trying to release games in the lowest effort for possible with all the shovel ware.
Well, as you said, the last "gaming crash" was very limited both regionally and regarding the platforms it affected, A similar small correction on a specific market segment is not actually out of question imho. Most gamers won't notice it, just as last time.

So I recently bought an Xbox Series X so I'll throw my thoughts in here.

Why buy a console so late on?

Backwards compatible games and upgrades.

Some games just never came to PC or didn't fully come.

The only current Gen games I've bought have been:

The Rare Replay collection (does this even count)

Clair Obscure Expedition 33

Injustice 2 Xbox Series X version

Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii - (it was going cheap on Xbox series x ok)

Everything else has been the best of old gens or to play upgraded version of older games.

Here's what Xbox does wrong:

Somehow less intuitive UI than Playstation it's like some-one copies the Playstation one then made a few changes to make things worse just to avoid being accused of copying.

Less hard drive expansion options while Playstation can take most (and there's plenty of guide to find the most compatible) Xbox has a whole 2 brands you can buy and the Playstation one fits inside while the Xbox one is a block you plug in.

There's been no real wow event games and for some stupid reason Xbox stepped back it's smaller games / arcade idea which helped fill in between bigger titles or let some of them bigger titles not hit so well.

Settings - Ok I watch some stuff on my Playstation using the controller to send audio to a wired headset so I don't disturb others and have a good way to use wired headphones. I can set the console to not turn the controller off for a set time so I can watch a full hour show. Xbox doesn't do this, regardless of what's going on 15 minutes of no controller buttons being pressed and it turns off no stopping it no questions asked.

What it does that I'm surprised Playstation doesn't:

There's a DTS app and a Dolby App, you do have to pay to use them (one time fee) but after that you can choose your audio options more and the Dolby App has a custom EQ option which if you want an equaliser on Playstation either requires a high end headset you set up or for the actual system one you have to buy the Playstation Pulse headset. Oh and the Dolby and DTS options work on media you play as does the virtual surround sound. This makes it more baffling Xbox would make it so controllers shut down after 15 minutes because you can listen to a show on headphones via the controller with Dolby surround sound working on them

I am shocked you even bothered responding to a post I made in 2024.

Though I will give an update: according to Pat and Woolie, we're now in a slow crash apparently. There is some truth to that, but it mainly looks like it's just MS, some of Sony, and a lot of the Western AAA developers and publishers. Nintendo is still doing great, and AA and indie are doing good or great. Most of them that is. This video was posted 10 months ago.

BTW, Microsoft and Series X just got even worse now.

I gotta hand it to the AI lady, she seems to really be trying to right the ship after Phil let it fucking sink for so goddamn long. I worry that the changes will be too little too late.

I don't know about too late, but they do seem too little. A lot of people have been saying that it's going to take a grand, generous gesture to win back goodwill, and while "not trying to plug the bullet holes in your feet with more bullets" is a good move for XBox, that's not going to get the crowd cheering.

Okay..... but didn't MS/Xbox invest quite a lot in releasing games to other platforms, and it just began to happen? Wouldn't going back to the first party exclusive kinda make that move pointless?

Not saying I wouldn't welcome seeing more exclusives, but it feels like a ton more investment in retracting multi-platform release; Unless they are taking Sony's idea in releasing exclusives like 1-2 years later?

Not that I have game pass subscription, but I wouldn't mind not having COD games at launch, or any game launches for that matter. I just feel it should exist for any games that haven't been released in the past 3-6 months.

Also, praying this doesn't lead to with-ad/ad-free version of game pass

Let's see here then...
The company is cutting the price of its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription by $7 a month, from $29.99 to $22.99. However, future games in the blockbuster Call of Duty franchise from Microsoft-owned Activision will no longer be available on the service at launch.
So... they removed Call of Duty from GamePass Day One and raised the price by 3 bucks compared to the previous $20 bucks price... yay?

It's like that political tactic of making an outlandish claim and then walking it back just a little bit to appear reasonable compared to you initial outlandish claim.

Oh, no, wait, you now also get EA Play and Fornite Crew for that additional $3 a month.

Also, praying this doesn't lead to with-ad/ad-free version of game pass
You can bet your arse that they'll enshittify the service in the future; it's the natural end point of these kinds of subscriptions.

Timed exclusives always seemed to me the obvious solution to all this, for all the platforms.
Sell your name game for your own system for two years then put it on the other platforms to hike up sales and hype again.

It just seems so obviously win-win for everyone.

Some good games would also help. I don't know why Xbox can't seem to get decent exclusive titles on their console. Then again they've sort of washed that away by putting their games on Playstation AND PC. They have made Xbox's useless and it doesn't make sense.

Halo, Gears and Forza used to be the joke. They rotated those IP’s like a three trick pony for about a couple generations but didn’t invest in much other talent beyond that. Here they are now after throwing record sums of money at buying studios with practically nothing to show for it. Sony hasn’t been a whole lot better lately though either; especially with their recent business practices.

I blame Microsoft for this. Sony was doing good because Microsoft was a viable competitor, but now that Xbox sucks Sony doesn't need to try and they can impliment dogshit business practices upon people because Playstation owners have no other options.
