Does this not feel like kind of a bait and switch to any one else? Went from talking about a warrior's spirit to the 2012 comspiracy thing.
Don't misunderstand me, I'm about as worried about 2012 as I was about Y2K, I'm just saying that all the babble has gotten me thinking.

Well, I could see that. There's something comforting about the idea that if you're gonna be fighting for your life, your own safety depends on skill rather than some jackass a few meters away who has enough fingers to pull the trigger of a gun.

I am one to believe in reincarnation, so perhaps 600yrs ago you WERE a warrior fighting in great wars.

I believe that I was in a past life as well and I find that although I'm not super comfortable with guns and whatnot, I can learn to use them very quickly and I've always had an interest in them along with martial arts.

I always thought that a sword was a warrior's soul. In a few japanese movies that I have seen, the name of a sword maker's shop was translated as "Sharpener of Samurai's Souls". But I agree with you, I feel more comfortable with a sword more so than a firearm. I haven't in some time, but I used to train fencing for about 10 years, so maybe that has something to do with it.

What about a jackass a few hundred feet away with a crossbow or a bow? Well, yeah, it certainly takes more "skill" to shoot a bow then a gun in my opinion, but it's still the same. It's within everyone to want to come out of conflicts unscathed.
Well, yeah. There's also poison, sickness, and sheer numbers of opponents. Yeah. But that's not the point.
I mean, a gun can make the weakest, simplest person into a threat, whereas, a blade requires skill.
To put it in a gamer's perspective, lets say you had a fighter character, who you've worked on for months, gotten to the max level, and what not. Then a level one character, who started the game seven minutes ago comes up and kills you with a generic magic missle outta the blue. Sure, you woulda pwn't them so hard if you were fighting hand-to-hand, but they had magic missle.

First of all: A soul? Really? Are you religious? Where in the body is the soul kept?
Secondly, I think this is just because you are a young man. Young men have a tendency towards violence, hence all the violent crime committed by young men. You can romanitcise it all you want and picture the glorius killing your sould did in tis previous body but to be honest I think you just enjoy violence.
Perhaps councilling would help you with this and stop you starting fights in bars?

I believe there is sudden burst of courage and determentaion in every man and woman,
I believe when these bursts happen, we have great change.
I believe we all have a warriors soul, it is just in hibernation, in till we require it the most.

Whether its giving the speech to change the world, or the punch to save the girl or boy.

I believe if you believe in yourself, this speech is not as cheesy.

Not much to respond with, but firstly, I don't believe in the existence of the soul, at least not in the conventional sense. Secondly, I feel most comfortable with neither firearms or any other weaoponary, but rather with myself.

You've got to be kidding, right? All violent crime is committed by young men? What are you smoking? Can I have some? First off, where are you getting this information from? The media? And secondly, don't you realize that the entire civilization that you live in, and almost all previous ones, are built upon violence. Life needs balance, violence begets peace.

When did you join the army? When did you become interested in violence? How many bar fights have you been in in your life?

It's an evolutionary trait. Back in the days when battle was a day-to-day inevitability, those who enjoyed fighting, and becoming stronger, would be more likely to live and breed. When social hierarchy was a lot more fragile than it is today, animals that took pleasure in fighting would naturally turn out top. As such, it's to be expected that humans are so violent by inclination. It's in all of us, but for many, like you, it's simply that much stronger.

Genetics and chance may not be as mystical as a "warrior's soul", but it's still wonderfully poetic, don't you think?

the closest thing i come to wielding a weapon is either a bo-staff (i do a little-known martial art called Shintaido, which is designed more for expressionism rather than defence/offence), and juggling knives... which happen to be blunt (all purpose-made juggling knives are blunt, remember that next time you see a person showing off their skills and bravery [but if they're juggling chainsaws that IS real])
