I notice a grand total of two examples there. Also, Warhammer 40k had power armour long before 40k RTS games were made.

What

Do you expect them to face down the Tyranid in nothing but their skivvies?

the IG do it everyday. They go out fearless with nothing but a t shirt and a flashlight and still find ways to win. power armor is for wimps.

Well, would you go into battle wearing conventional 20kg armour? Or a powered suit that makes you stronger?

What's wrong with them wearing power armor? Also, your two examples work as follows, so far as I understand it.

Blizzard went to Games Workshop(the creators of the original 40K tabletop game) and said "Hey we want to make an RTS of 40K!" Games Workshop was like "...Nah, we're good." So Blizzard put together StarCraft, which is heavily inspired by 40K and Starship Troopers(which, as I understand it, is the first thing to include these power armored space marines, and so also inspired 40K itself.)

FIRSTLY the rumour is about Warhammer Fantasy and WARCRAFT not 40K. And secondly its entirely a rumour.

The IG win because there are trillions of them and they eventually swarm their enemy, of course they aren't much use against Orks and Tyranids who do the same thing but nastier.

Don't be so indignant. I don't have my facts straight and I'm not doing research on it or anything, I made a post in a thread.

I've heard approximately the same rumor about BOTH games, thank you very much, and I'm sorry if it is just a rumor. As I said, I'm not going to research things unless I'm trying to make a point.

A good IG commander can own the nids and the orks but i digress. IG also have a very good artillery and tanks. but yes the IG do die by the millions but they do has the second most personality behind the orks.

Power armor=manliness, the bigger and heavier armor you have, the more virile you are in the face of danger.

This is the 40k school of thought anyways, where your position in the imperial hierarchy is directly measured by the sized of your pauldrons, or how fancy your hat is if you're imperial guard.

But really, if you're going into space or to a hostile environment, it's likely you'll need a suit. Might aswell make the suit as protective as possible. What we currently equip our astronauts with is fine for repairing space stations and what not, but just doesn't cut it when fighting horrible space monsters.

I think everyone has an abundance of personality, save for Tyranids and Necrons who are designed to be personality-less and even then they sometimes surprise me, but I wouldn't count the IG's "victories" as victories due to the sheer loss of life which usually outweighs any success. The IG are basically there to hold the line until the Space Marines show up to help or perform Exterminatus, regardless of how many IG life is on the planet... or until squad broken.

Blizzard is a company of hacks that make mainstream copies of truly unique and great products. They are very enjoyable copies and often better than their source, but they are copies nontheless. Starcraft = 40k, Warcraft = Warhammer, Diablo = Gauntlet, etc.

And to be fair...

...Everything we think we know about 'Space Marines' was derived from these two novels.

Power Armor is basically just an armored space suit, and a perfectly logical progression of how a soldier may be equipped. If you're fighting in an unknown environment you have to be protected from unknown atmosphere, pressures, organic life, disease, etc. It would also make logical sense to equip such a suit with armor and built in weaponry, which would need protection from the same unknown elements.

A 'Space Marine', by definition, would necessarily be equipped with Power Armor.

I think it is just basic logic really. You are up against robots, aliens, mutants or whatever and they are usually bigger than you... so you get bigger yourself. Evolution takes quite some time but we are gifted with the power of invention so we quicksmart invent something to make us bigger and stronger to grant victory. There you have your reason for power armour.

Here it is in a simple slogan "POWER ARMOUR: because claws hurt and evolution takes time"

I personally am cool with space marines. I like the whole walking tank thing. To me (who plays berzerkers 90% of the time) there is a certain honourable aspect to facing your foes face to face in combat and demolishing them. No need for tactics, just a simple contest of strength agility and skill.

Fearless? What? We're talking a base leadership of 5 to 7. That's about a 45-70% chance of retreat if they lose a few units.
