So Blizzard put together StarCraft, which is heavily inspired by 40K and Starship Troopers(which, as I understand it, is the first thing to include these power armored space marines, and so also inspired 40K itself.)
Dont forget Alien and Predator.
What about Alien and Predator? I can't recall ANY Power Armour being used in; The Alien Quadrilogy, the Predator Triliogy or either of the AvP movies.

Power Armour is kinda needed when you look at differences in units, what would you have a Space Marine wear when he's up aginst an Ultralisk? Or if a Chaos Marine is up against a Dreadnaught?
yeah gordon wears not power armor but a scientific suit that's ALMOST safe from radiation, fire, cold and of course various hazards but it's not very combat advanced

Well, at first I thought he was referring to the power lifter in Aliens, then I recall that the last boss in the Predator campaign in the AvP 2 game is a human wearing power armor replete with Gatling type guns and rocket launchers, although it's still similar to the power lifter. And unless I'm mistaken, human players can also wear it in multiplayer.

However, you could argue that it's more of a vehicle than armor:

Can't find a good picture of the military version, but it's pretty much the same as the one from Avatar:

Just watching that bit from Iron Man, I have to agree. Though it's weird, since they also took the bit with the power source powering up, when that bit comes up on Tychus, at first I thought it was some kind of rocket booster, I guess it's an exhaust, because he certainly doesn't do any flying around that I've seen.

If it is more like the suit from Avatar, then it would be deemed a Mech, and not armour.

You're also probably right about the whole AvP2 thing, it's been about 6-7 years since I played it.

Iron man didn't invent power armor, I don't know why everyone thinks that. Many of my friends told me that when they saw the Dead Space 2 trailer:

Uh, that's not actually power armor. Just because it has glowly lights on it doesn't mean it's power armor. If you'd played the games and read the books you'd know that.

EDIT: You forgot about Crysis.

From what I heard, Starcraft (the model for all sci-fi rts's) was originally going to be a Warhammer 40K rts. Because of some quibbling with Gamesworkshop, Blizzard lost the license. But, they weren't going to let a game they were making die because of that, so they changed the names, some sprites, etc, and StarCraft was born. I guess BLizzard decided to keep the power armor concept from the Space Marines and port it over, creating the power armor we now see everywhere.

Who said Iron Man invented power armour?? Sure wasn't me... go read my post again. The earliest mention of power armour I'm aware of (as noted in other people's posts, so I didn't mention it) is the Forever War and Starship Troopers (the book, not the rubbish movie).

I only said that the images in SC2 of the robot sticking armour onto the dude were pretty much ripped from Iron Man.

Because the only thing more awesome than playing as a power armored space marine is commanding an army of power armored space marines.

Most sci-fi stories have power armor for human soldiers. I think it hearkens back to the old legends of brave, courageous knights in shining armor. Science fiction is our modern day equivalent of these tales, and we need our knights, even in the depths of space.

It's such a minor thing though in the first Starcraft. A grand total of two units possess it, the Marine and the Firebat, I mean, it's not like it acts like anything more than an aesthetic device in a lot of games. Most don't even give it more than a passing mention (Halo, Half-Life and Crysis come to mind on at least giving some detail to the background of the armor.)

Same shit. As I said, whenever people see an awesome suit of armor they think: "Ironman did it".

To be fair it's not unreasonable to think soldiers will be kitted out in some sort of mechanized suits in the future, I mean even today there are early developments of such things.

I have played the games and read the books, actually. And I didn't "forget" about Crysis. I wasn't trying to get every single console game with power armor, I was just trying to provide a few examples. I have been informed that, as well as the MJOLNR (MJOLNOR? whatever.) armor, the HEV suit is also not considered power armor. Both are suits of armor that give the user extraordinary amounts of damage protection as well as strength and accuracy, so I have to ask....If that's not power armor, what is?

(Christ, this is the nerdiest argument I've ever been in. And I just want to point out that since Power Armor is fictional, what exactly the term entails is entirely subjective, much like no incarnation of the zombie is more accurate then the others.)

You obviously don't get to meet too many people then. Most of the people *I* know are more likely to complain about ripping off Space Marines or Starship Troopers when they see powered armour.

THAT CLIP, with the whole 'robot puts armour onto dude' comes straight from Iron Man. I'm sorry you've got such a chip on your shoulder about it, but there's nothing you can do to change it. The clip has power armour in. So what. All the cool comes from the robot assembly, not the fact that there's power armour there. It's all about how it's assembled, piece by piece, and locked together.

Get over yourself already, k?

What

Do you expect them to face down the Tyranid in nothing but their skivvies?
the IG do it everyday. They go out fearless with nothing but a t shirt and a flashlight and still find ways to win. power armor is for wimps.
Hell yeah!
Genetic augmentation and fancy armor is for pussies!

OP: You remembered StarCraft and Warhammer 40K.
You forgot Gears of War, Halo, Mass Effect, Fallout, Star Wars, Metroid, Dead Space, Half Life, Red Faction, KillZone, Iron Man, and a few others I can't remember.
