Mmm, doughnuts.

At times like these, I'm glad I don't live in America. No offense.
I don't blame you. Sometimes, I question them myself (I live in America). Knowing that this is America, they may very well be that dumb, which is so horribly sad I'm embarrassed to be considered in the same group as them. If they were trying to cause trouble (meaning they're not stupid), then they would have picked a subject that would have significantly less risk of them just look like total fools, am I right? (unless their ability at foresight is also terrible, but how in the world do you overlook something like this?)

Anyway, stuff like this is -crap-. The Church really needs to drop inane pursuits like this.
Woah, woah, woah. Why are you dragging "The Church" into this? Are non-religious people not allowed to be against abortion? This is a pro-life group, not a church. If you believe "The Church" is automatically associated with any and every conservative group, I would say that you are quite mistaken.

Yes, this [original post] is a very silly thing to fuss over.

Evidently "freedom" and "choice" are two very taboo phases that imply awful things and should never be used.

The fundies are just annoyed that McCain didn't get in and are stirring up trouble for it. I don't think any amount of fundies could bring Krispy Kreme down though. No one can resist such sugary, glazed goodness! Krispy Kreme is doing what we call product promotion. Getting more people interested in their product by providing a free sample. Oh no, how terrible! FREE THINGS! AND PEOPLE HAVE THE CHOICE TO GET SUCH FREE THINGS! ABORTION! AAAAAAAAAAH! ABORTION DOUGHNUTS!

Heh. Thanks for making me laugh.

On the topic at hand, I think it's stupid and I'm pro-life.

On your post, yes, you CAN bring down krispy kremes.(SP) They went out of business some time ago here in Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas.
Good on you. You're entitled to your opinion and I'm not going to shoot you down for it. Thanks for letting me know, though. Krispy Kreme isn't that big here in Australia. It's slowly spreading, but I remember a time when there was only one Krispy Kreme in Sydney...
I'm disappointed that they're not giving us free doughnuts though... I mean, we're allies! DOES THE ANZUS TREATY MEAN NOTHING TO YOU, KRISPY KREME?!?!

Well, I'm not that fond of them, but its the principal!

You know I think it would be easier to take the 'pro life' movement more seriously if they focused more on family planning practices and less on screaming at the 'pro choice' lobby at the top of their lungs. Abortions are going to happen either way and did happen even when they were illegal, the only difference being that they were usually done in back ally clinics and posed a serious health risk to the mother.

Still I wonder how many of them stop and consider how many of these abortions could have been prevented if they could simply let go of a flawed concept for their religion and instead focused on discussing sex with teenagers including the use of birth control. Unfortunately many of these people view a condom or the pill with the same horror and disgust that they do the actual abortion. They expect the proven power of teenage hormones to be counteracted by finger waving and naming a few passages they don't fully understand themselves.

Still its shocking that enough of them are so uptight that the phrasing of a free doughnut offer is causing any form of outrage. Have to love when people decide that logic is totally optional though.

It's a promotion, how could you seriously think a donut company can inlfuence public opinion... Are they really that good? (I've never had a Krispy Kreme... so my response may be redundant).
Yes. They really are that good. If you ever go to one when the "Hot" sign is lit..... it really is enough to cause an abortion. Just saying. God I miss those things....

Thanks for the biting response. You're right, I didn't fully read the article because one doesn't even need to read the thing to determine that this group is being ridiculous. I skimmed it to see if it mentioned anything religious-y in their brief, but did not read that last paragraph you cited.

@Lyiat: But I'm tired of the more liberal members of society constantly implying that only Christians and only other pathetic, deceived, brain-washed worshippers of some religion or another are pro-life, intelligent design vs unintelligent forces is only about The Church trying to control science, and every other issue of conservative values vs liberal values can only mean those stupid Christians are at it again when the fact is, some conservative groups are not Christian! A lot are Jewish, Muslim, or Mormon, but some are atheists, agnostics, skeptics -- the list goes on! Some aren't even Republican! Yet in the rush to over-simplify an issue, here we are, structuring issues like it's always about Christians doing something wacky.

"... because life is all there is and all that matters, and abortion destroys the life of an innocent human being."
Clearly, blatantly an atheistic, naturalist worldview.

Democrats for Life of America, Inc. is a national organization for pro-life members of the Democratic party. Democrats for Life of America exists to foster respect for life, from the beginning of life to natural death. This includes, but is not limited to, opposition to abortion, capital punishment, and euthanasia. Democrats for Life of America is one of over 200 member organizations of Consistent Life: an international network for peace, justice and life.
Because Republicans are right-wing and Democrats are left-wing is a stereotype that doesn't reflect the reality of the 2000s.

This is most amusing, reminds me of the old Jo Brand line about the contraceptive pill.

'I went on the pill to prevent pregnancy, and put on about 30 pounds, so it worked quite well really.'

Maybe that's what Krispy Kreme are doing, pack enough donuts down your neck and you won't be having so much sex, so maybe there is contraception there after all.

I just wanted to say that I love your post.

I'm more-or-less anti-abortion (but pro-euthanasia; let the baby grow and make the decision for himself), and this wins awards for absolute ridiculousness. It's amazing how few people have lives-everybody in this freaking country takes things too far; apparently nobody can be sane when they have an opinion.
