I currently don't play WoW but I am thinking about it. I just want feedback from those who play it what do you think. I would also like suggestions from players on what class to start as.

EDIT: also I should have mentioned I have much experience with MMOs just something to keep in mind

I don't think you'll get a very good opinon here. Most of the people I have seen here tend to put down WoW. I suggest getting the free trial. The game is fun if you have a social Guild.

For a beggining class I suggest Either a Warrior or Mage. Simple classes that don't require you to do anything fancy until later levels.

I've played for a long long time (since about a year after release) and it's an amazing game if you can get into a guild with people you like that do the things you like (raiding, PvPing, whatever). First class I ended up playing was a druid. then switched to hunter and got rid of the druid.

As said before get the trial first and see if you like the game mechanics, since you will be using them ALOT.

It also depends on how much you intend to play the game for.

But just get the trial and see if you like how it plays out

EDIT: also said before choose a warrior for starters since they're pretty simple at low levels

Well I had a Warrior when I started out. Wasen't to hard to level him since he was Protection Warrior and I had around 2.5k Health in my late 30s. Now I play a fire mage and I am loving every Crit.

I find them soul destroyingly boring to play (Warriors that is). Whereas with mages I just die a lot. My first and main character is a hunter, who is fun to play, and its extremely simple. Although I would recommend playing a paladin, because they can fill any role, good at PVE, and ridiculously annoying in PVP.

For a first class, hunter is pretty good because it's amazingly easy and it allows you to learn about the game enough to play a class that actually requires talent.

And no I do not hate hunters... my main is one.

it is a good game decent story good game play if you like the whole kill level up loot style of gaming but like what has been said it depends on the people you play with it is a very social game and is fairly time consuming but never the less id would advise playing it at least once and as for what class to play id say either a hunter or a druid. hunters are fun to play and as a hunter you will find levelling easy and most group quest can be done alone and a druid is a multi talented class that can either tank, heal or dps so there a good all rounder class

Eh.. if you're struggling to find an MMO with players that you like, get WoW. If you haven't looked around yet I'd say do that first. I went to WoW from Guild Wars because the playerbase died and I'd got bored of it, but found WoW inferior in pretty much every way. It was just 'bigger' and people played it.

That said, if you're not into MMO's yet then you'll find plenty to like about it. Just try not to get too frustraited with the fact that everyone has a lvl 80 main and/or is a death knight.

Hunter is by far the easiest class to use, although my first was a rogue which requires a bit of effort to use but isn't too hard. I certainly wouldn't go with the casters on your first try.

If your friends play it, then do. With friends it's fun (to be frank, any game is fun with friends). However, on your own it's the dullest, most tedious grindfest you could imagine. At the risk of sounding like a fanboy, I recommend GW over WoW.
You should get the free trial.

I'm sorry, what? What story is there to WoW? All it has is lore. It essentially drops you into a pre-existing conflict.

Why not there increadbly over powered and mainly just have to cast there totems and lightning bolt.

also to the people who are trying to talk him out of it please stop. Your not the guys parents and should allow him to make his own choice. Besides there is a free trial that allows him to do anything a normal player can do (With the exception of a few social things.)

Also if he decides to pick it up he can drop it any time he wants. It is a game not a narcotic.

I'm sorry, what? What story is there to WoW? All it has is lore. It essentially drops you into a pre-existing conflict.

i agree that you do end up getting dropped in to a conflict at the start with out much clue but there is a story line regarding the race you chose to be and there is tones of mini story lines all over the place but the story mainly comes from quests within a area admittedly if you played warcraft 3 you would feel alot more at home with the lore and stories being told but overall there isnt a main story like in guild wars that you must follow i played guild wars before i played wow its a good game but i it felt to linear for my liking

Excuse me sir, I leveled on to 80. I think I would know what to choose and what not to choose. Let me rephrase. As your first character, DO NOT CHOOSE SHAMAN.

The OP asked for feedback from people who play the game, not purely positive feedback from people who play the game. If we don't think it's good, we can say so.

Okay then sorry to offend you. But yeah the shammy is not a good 1st character but when you get used to the game it becomes a good class to try out.

well i love it and i rolled a mage that rules ass, but even if you really dont want to play there are some wonderful private servers out there. me and all my friends play one and we love it
