So...if WoW gets boring only after 2-3 years, all of that time you had fun retroactively becomes boring?tarquin biscuitbarrel said:imo it's the most enjoyable game ever when you first start playing, but it gets boring and repetitive sooner or later - and then you'll be angry for sacrificing 2-3 years of your life to it.
(try it)
How long ago did you play? If it's before The Burning Crusade came out, then anything you know about the playability of pretty much any class has changed. If you played recently though, then ignore me; I've never played a shammy.Mrsnugglesworth said:I used to play. Word of advice. Don't. Choose. Shamans.

For a beggining class I suggest Either a Warrior or Mage. Simple classes that don't require you to do anything fancy until later levels.
the problem with people suggesting the simple classes is the fact that you do not learn from them as well as the harder classes. i say pay $40, get the battlechest, and try out paladins, then some of the easier classes. i would suggest trying out shamans if they were not drowned by 40+spells by lvl 15, while not giving you the time to figure out what you are doing. paladins have a nice pace, get cheap mounts, and have badges that say god on them when played well. enhancment shamans, while powerful, durring the lvling process deal too much damage, and so grouping with anyone less then 40 lvls above you is going to get your butt sawed off on a regular basis.
Druids, while having one of the largest spell pools in the game, are still an easy class because everything is given a different can of spraypaint to use on itself. tanking is bear, melee dps is cat, ranged is cow/elf/birdman, healing is cow/elf/tree, thus learning the class is little harder then a color by numbers book with only 4 crayons to use.
Warriors are simple, a good class, and very unsophisticated, but only need 2 primary stats(strengh/stamina or strenght/agility).
Mages are easy to learn because their spells are all color coded, red means pure dps, blue means the target is freazing to death, purple means you are pitching shards of your manabar with lethal forc at the target, brown means you just got subbed for a vending machine
Priests are good damage dealers and spectacular healers. requires good understanding of how to get enemies off you.
Rogues are a complex class that centers around a combat style that can be called ballet with katanas and daggers. you chain attacks into 6 hit chains that devastate the target. requires great attention
Paladins are priests that wear full suits of body armor and kick your ass in blazes of glory. rather complex to understand how the class works, but once you do, it is a piece of cake. playing these first makes the game easier.
Shamans are guys who run around wielding giant hammers and causing earthquakes. they start out incredibly powerful to the point that you should only auto-attack and drop totems.
Hunters are overall a simple class, but they are too simple, you do not learn the game well enough from them to truely play it. if you play one, make sure you can tame a cat as soon as you hit lvl 10
Warlocks are a somewhat complex class, they have 5 (?) pets, which unlike hunter pets, level at the exact same speed as you do. you are either going to end up just firing shadowbolts or dropping half a billion debuffs on the target untill their head's explode in a beautiful shower of blood and brain.
also mind you its 15$ a month to playFreakout456 said:I currently don't play WoW but I am thinking about it. I just want feedback from those who play it what do you think. I would also like suggestions from players on what class to start as.
EDIT: also I should have mentioned I have much experience with MMOs just something to keep in mind

Wow...someone blaming an mmo for his own problems. awesome.Crosseyes said:Alot of people here will give you various answers, but take it from someone who knows. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET THE HELL OUT OF MMO'S WHILE YOU STILL CAN!! I used to play World of Warcraft, stopped just recently, in fact. Best thing I ever did! In just 2 weeks I dramatically raised my grades, got into more social clubs and activities, and I'm pretty sure I'm getting some more positive attention from the ladies. I know that Massive Multiplayer Onlines are fun ways to escape reality, that's why I played them. But making reality better is FAR MORE REWARDING in the end. Even if you're not totally addicted, or if you have a less addictive personality, World of Warcraft will suck you into the Twisting Nether and spit you out as a Fat, hairy, 37-year-old with almost no real friends, and almost no cell pigmentation. Please trust me on this, video games are fun, hell, I still play them pretty often, but World of Warcraft, and MMOs in general, are a whole 'nother story. leave while you can.

They have been buffed recently, but its still not enough for them to honestly be called a good class (Ok, Elemental I hear is doing alright) but enhancement usually gets stomped.toapat said:/Snipes Maddawgmaddawg IAJI said:I don't think you'll get a very good opinon here. Good thing you only hit me in the foot. Opinons differ from one another and while I have played every class except Shammys and Druids. Glad to see people who have a good summary of every class.
