OK, so what is with all the GOD DAMN acronyms?

In the last decade, this whole acronym craze has reached such a crescendo that we're actually using the same acronym for many different things!!! Are we really this lazy?

MAG
AC

SSB/SSBM/SSBB

KOTOR
CS
HL2
BC2
FPS
TPS
RTS
TBS
MMORPG

And those are only the game related ones that come off the top of my head.

Can anyone answer my question? Why in the hell is this sickness getting worse???? Oh, and what are some annoying acronyms you know?

God of War is "GoW"

Gears of War is "Gears"

But, hey, what could be do instead of acronyms?

Now... GoW could be both Gears of War or God of War? Does this depend on whether you own a 360 or PS3... what if you own both?

I understand that it was God of War first, but I've heard 360 owners blasphemously use it for Gears of War.

Acronyms have been used in computer science for ages, get used to it. RAM, AGP, PCI, BIOS, ISP, JPEG, TIFF, to name a few.

I'm starting to lose track of what they all mean, I really try not to use them anywhere unless it is universal that have always been around-etc. for example. I don't actually think I know how to spell etcetera... okay maybe I do but I never use it.

Meh, I don't mind acronyms so much. Do you really want to type out MMORPG every single time? It seems easier to just put MMORPG, both for typing and reading.

What really bugs me are people abbreviating just to avoid typing a few more letters. U no wat Im sayn?

Acronyms simply make everything faster to get out. And in an era infatuated with doing as much as you can as fast as you can, it's pretty easy to see why it's caught on. And not just in computing either: take a listen to teenagers some time (especially girls). They've stolen our leetspeak.

Its funny when corporations think of a cool acronym first, then make up the letters after. You can just tell how they force in the last letters.

They don't really bother me, 'cause typing out "MMORPG" is much easier than typing out "Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game". That, and it makes your posts shorter, and therefore, easier to read.
