That's too bad, looks like there'll never be a good COD game ever again. It was fun while it lasted.

Two years from now, all triple-A FPS games will operate via monthly fee.
Thank you for translating. I wondered why my balls shriveled when I read those lines.

I...Err...Wu...WHAT THE SHIT?!

It's like the Activition head broke into my house, ran into my room, farted in my face and then walked away without a word.

I...I just don't know what to say.

This is fucking wrong. If you're gonna replace a CoD dev, fine, get rid of Treyarch. Hand it over to the Dead space Devs, then we'd have two solid developers making the games instead of one.

Good luck to the people of IW.
Completely agree. Treyarch sucks and I still don't get why you would bench IW instead of them.

Looking at the bright side, perhaps the next Modern Warfare might actually not be about aliens invading Earth.

I love their use of "legalese" to disguise the fact that they are going to charge a monthly fee for multiplayer use. I'm glad that I am done buying video games since the industry is going completely insane. Charging for every little thing, day one DLC, DRM up the ass etc. etc.

Can some one tell me the following things? I just am having trouble understanding whats going on

a.) Why did the two employees get fired?
b.) What does this mean for the CoD future? Is it now just going to be games that milk the frachise?
c.) Why is Activision run by douchebags who love money way to much and fucking over the series that is the reason they go home to jacoozi hot tub beds with surround sound?

Ok as far as Im concerned this is partially IW's own fault. They rushed out a game in a fraction of the time required to make a decent game and the overall result reflected poorly on the developer. Im not complaining about the unfairness of MW2, I talking from a quality stand point. MW2 has more bugs that a decaying corpse and unfortunately that does not reflect well on a developer. I mean Modern Warfare is Infinity Ward's only franchise. Thats like Santa Monica studios messing up the new God of War. Except where Santa Monica owns God of War, Infinity Ward is developing for another company. Therefore if Activision is unsatisfied by IW's work they are going to cut them loose. Moderen Warfare 2 sold on the premise that it was as good if not better than the original... thats was it was such a finaicial success. Anyone could have developed the game and for better or worse the game would have sold the same.

Nobody knows as of yet. It will probably be a few days before that news gets out.

Well, supposedly Modern Warfare will still be developed by IW, with Sledgehammer working on a spin-off Call of Duty title, though IW will now be under new leadership. What will that do to the game? Only time can tell.

c.) Why is Activision run by douchebags who love money way to much and fucking over the series that is the reason they go home to jacoozi hot tub beds with surround sound?
Because there is a word for "douchebags who love money way to much and fucking over the series that is the reason they go home to jacoozi hot tub beds with surround sound." It's businessperson. Doing what is profitable and doing what is popular or morally sound is not always the same thing. Note, however, we still don't have all the details as to why this whole event went down. I'm hesitant to totally crucify Activision just yet.

Hold on. So MW2 is the last COD game to be developed by Infinity Ward? Ever? How can Activision do that? They made the fucking franchise to begin with!

Best of luck to Infinity Ward, whatever they do next.
you're familiar with original CoD and CoD2
and your sad to see IW leave it now?
really?
after how badly they fucked up here?
MW2 is a MW too many.
IW got far too cocky.
Yes!! Not many people gave a shit about CoDs 1 and 2. Why should I be happy that they have to leave it? How did they fuck up MW2? It is the best selling game of all time. This is bullshit. There seems to be a big sign over all big selling titles that says "Bash us because we made a good game"

So, let me get this straight: Activision wants to remove the Call of Duty rights from the company that single-handedly decimated the Christmas '09 gaming season AND shattered all pre-existing sales records, and move it to a different company? Where's the sense in that?

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot...
The chances are that activision is banking on the idea that although high sales of COD:MW2 was partly due to gamers who pay attention to games (like people on this site) buying it, it was also due to advertising to the public and getting everyone who owns a console to buy it. If you asked the average player who made the game they probably wouldnt know. I know my friends who I played with didnt. This way activision can do the old swicher-o with the developers and nones the wiser on the next sale untill word of mouth gets around that everythings changed inside

This is how EA, Activision and Ubisoft keep selling games dispite the out-rage they constantly cause through DRMs and insane firings off a lot of amazing developers

I still miss Bullfrog....

first, sales=/=quality.
millions of people buy toyotas, and they're fun as shit to bash, because any car i ever like that they make is cancelled for lack of profitability (but that's another bag of worms, there son.)
secondly, i like popular games such as halo, starcraft, battlefield, counter-strike, cod series up to W@W.
third:
do you remember happy penguin #1 mp-foy?
that made CoD:UO for me.
always 40 players fighting in and around foy, epic.
how about 'tactical' S&D CoD2 servers?
also awesome fun.
custom maps?
some of those were quite well made, great communities at work there.
WHAT ABOUT GOOD CONNECTIONS [/b]AND MORE THAN A DOZEN PLAYERS!??!
those are grand.
those things ended when IW realized that catering to XBL was more profitable than to PC gaming, and to the old fans.
they. took. our. servers.
and mods.
and maps.
the STUPIDITY of the Russians, nonsensically armed with Mideast and Belgian weapons.
SAIGA-520K would've been a damn good gun to put in as the russsian shotgun. as would a modern AK (74 at oldest, newer variant preferred such as AEK or AN or AK-10X) instead of AK-47 (PLUS RAILZ!!)
and a proper AKS-74u as 'smg' (note the quotation marks)
treyarch was making decent console iterations of the franchise, cod3 was quite fun on 360, zombies is awesome.
it really saddens me as a gaming enthusiast and (former) fan of the franchise to see them betray their roots.
let's shock 'reviewers' by killing the Player Character several times (how original)
first game you do it in is epic.
do it again, and you're wearing it thin.

that's how they fucked up, if you really like PC gaming and the old CODs

it can't work. not now.
because even if they did, it'd be a failure on Xbox, because players already pay MS, for many more games, can't be on ps3 because that'd unbalance the consoles, and sure as fuck wouldn't work on the PC, because they must have been hoping that IWnet would be successful (HA!) to think such a system would work
probable plan:
1. IWnet is winrar
2. new CoD 2011 game released
3. MW2 online is shut down, forcing players to move on
4. charge monies for IWnet to bring back things we've had before
5. PROFIT!
pretty sure 1. has failed, so probability of latter steps is unlikely.

They get kicked in the rear... for making one of the most profitable franchises in history...

How is this a good bushiness strategy?

An online system doesn't have to be immediately successful for a major company to continue attempting to force it down the throats of its users. See Games for Windows Live and the EA Downloader. Heck, even Steam got off to a rocky start. Blizzard is pushing for Battle.net 2.0 to be a launch platform for DLC (though they've included an interesting option allowing players to make money off player created content), so I don't think it's too far off to expect the rest of Activision to start kicking its other big divisions into similar schemes.

With proprietary access points comes control, with control comes the ability to influence prices. I fully expect to see DLC as we know it phased out (hopefully, but not necessarily, with the initial purchase price) in favor of episodic content. StarCraft II is a good example of this metamorphosis, as its single player experience has already been split into three installments.

Regular fees will likely remain limited to heavily multi-player games, ostensibly to support constant balance work and secondary support from the design team. Hopefully that will mean first party dedicated servers to facilitate easy access, but who knows. If they don't think they have to supply them, they won't. In any case, it'll begin with the giants like Call of Duty and work its way down as it becomes a proven distribution method.

Most of this will probably be limited to PCs to begin with, moving to consoles as the console makers are persuaded to expand the options they give their client developers. I'd imagine something will be worked out, if not in this generation then the next. It's not like Microsoft or Sony hates money.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- This is going to screw CoD up without a doubt(no anti CoD witty remarks please). I'm interested in what the new MW will look like, I really enjoyed Dead Space; but you can't just ruin it like that!

Watch, the next MW will be balanced and playable (yes, I did just do the very thing I told you not to do, I'm so edgy)!

Guess I'll just have to wait and see. Stupid Activision.

I guess I'm part of the minority of people who actually enjoyed CoD2. When CoD3 was announced, honestly I wasn't all that excited for it, as it wasn't developed by Infinity Ward. After playing it for awhile, I still thought it wasn't great, but it still exceeded my (admittedly, very low) expectations. I guess what I'm trying to say is that just because a developer gets kicked off a game doesn't mean the end of the world.

However...

Fuck Activision for kicking Infinity Ward off CoD. While I agree that MW2 is essentially a Michael Bay movie, only a little better, it is still THE BIGGEST SELLING GAME OF ALL GODDAMN TIME. Look what happens to entertainment entities when a beloved studio leaves - the entity suffers. That's what's going to happen to the CoD franchise, whether they like it or not.
