As much as I like to rag on Activision I feel like there is more to this than Mr Hastings is telling us.

Call it a gut instinct, but I dont think that that Activision is stupid enough to just do downright ID theft from a nobody to sell a game nobody will buy.
Activision just wants to make sure no other publisers will get rights to paintball games, theyre slowly stealing all the game franchises until all games are bought from them.

To people saying that Activision will drag Blizzard down, Blizzard Entertainment still exists as a separate entity, while they do colaborate within Activision Blizzard, they are in no way bound to them. The merger is basically them sharing resources and programmers in order to speed up their future projects. That being siad, thank god Activision got their faces slammed, I don't even understand what made them think they could do that.

Well, especially given that "abandoning your franchise" isn't grounds to seize it. Technically abandonware isn't even a legal term, you hold the copyright until you die, and even after that for a fair bit.

they sent me a letter and they said, 'We feel you've abandoned your franchise, and we're going to commence making games called Greg Hastings Paintball without Greg Hastings.'"
That's hilarious, they might as well have said:

"we don't like you, we feel that we want your franchise, so we're taking it, *****"

Did they honestly think that was a legal thing to do?
Yeah, now that you mention it, how does a company get off saying "we're taking your name and your franchise" like it's a totally legitimate thing to do. Can you imagine how Activision would have reacted if someone said "We feel you ripped the Call of Duty franchise a new hole, so we're going to make Call of Duty games now, and you can't do anything about it." Because I'll bet Activision would put everything on hold to sue the pants off them.

Yes, yes they can.

I wonder if this is Activision's theme song?

Personally, I think Captain Linebeck's theme from PH fits their greed more.

They're nowhere near as cool as the Empire anyways.
It isn't cooler, but the Empire one is a bit more dignified, and we can't let have Activision any of that :p

Gee you think? Activision puts everything on hold to sue the pants off of people who jaywalk in front of their building.

Perhaps they thought no one would notice? Stealing Hastings' name is a little like stealing the handle off of a grocery cart: the value is negligible, it's of little use to the thief, no one goes looking for it, and how long is it going to take before someone realizes it's gone?...

Ah, Activision. When are you going to learn: evil is only profitable when you're smart enough to make sure people don't notice...

And to think I once respected Activision.
You sir have made my day, thank you.
OT: Didn't think Activision was this stupid...

Can't we get one positive story about Acti/Blizzard. Just one?

They literally can't be that evil, can they?
I know what you mean, they are borderline cartoonishly evil

Why aren't I surprised? Although I do think that there is more to the story than this. No one is as stupid as to just try ID theft from someone that famous. Or someone who thinks they're famous.

The big mystery here is that Bungie is joining with Activision, what the hell do they see in this publisher? It's unfrickenbelievable
Simple. See that big building over there with the large dollar sign on the side? That's the Scrooge McDuck Memorial Money Swimming Vault.
also Bungie is doing a publishing only agreement so they keep the their Intellectual Property (whatever the hell they are making) and i think the only real reason for this joint op with activision on bungie's end its to steal talent (wont be that hard)

...This reeks of something else. A franchise that has to be prefaced by "no, really, it exists, I promise" about a paintballer no one has heard of does not smell of a marketable game. I mean, sure, few knew who Tony Hawk was, but that became a marketable game, and very quickly a that. An FPS clone of a game without the bits that make FPS's fun to play seems ridiculous. So, it smells of a personal issue blown out of context.

While I sympathize with Hastings, I have to wonder about the whole issue: why would you make a game of a sport that is supposed to be a simulation of using real guns when you can just make a game ABOUT using real guns?
