Tom Cruise springs to mind, because Scientology. I don't think I have to elaborate on that.

Since most responses have been movie actors, here's one from voice acting:

Steven Blum. It's not that I dislike the man or his voice, but he's waaaaaaaay too overused. It's gotten to the point that I can't even suspend my disbelief with his characters any longer, they're just "Steve Blum as *insert gruff man here.*"

I absolutely detest Adam Sandler, Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Owen Wilson and all the rest of THAT crowd. You know who I'm talking about. The smug assholes that play themselves in pretty much every single film, which are apparently "comedies" but end up being 80 minutes of the American equivalent of "cheeky banter".

I'd take Nicolas Cage's insanity over their dull delivery any day.
God yes. I don't even watch Adam Sandler films, but I'm deathly sick of seeing previews for them nearly every time I go to the movie theater. It's like he's desperately trying to stay relevant by churning out tripe as fast as possible.

I think the ron burgundy crew are all chunks of the brown schtuff, myself.

But I'm focusing on Sandler here. I just want to know how he got away with always using that stupid freaking voice - where he sort of imitates a mother talking to her baby, and tilts his head to one side, and makes his mouth into an "O" and frowns furiously.. Little nicky, Billy Madison, Mr. Deeds (I actually like that movie because it was fed to me via I.v. do for a year when I didn't know any better but he still does a lot of that bs) and as far as I can tell he's been doing it for his entire career, including SNL...

UNACCEPTABLE!

I was forced to watch 'Zoolander' and what used to be ignorin Ben Stiller turned to hate with the intensity of a thousand suns. Same goes for Adam Sandler. Will Ferell can be OK when I'm in the right mood. Didn't like him at first but enjoyed him in 'Anchorman' and 'Eastbound & Down'.

Ben Stiller. Granted, he has been in some decent films and he's an aright actor but there's just something about him I can't put my finger on that just annoys me.

Very much yes, though I didn't think Wilson was on the same level as Sandler. I've not seen him in much, though.
Well I suppose he isn't as immediately annoying, but I can't say the guy's a good actor. There are plenty of actors that play every single role as pretty much the same person, but most of them have some sort of charm or defining quality (take most 80s/90s action heroes for example). I know Owen Wilson is typecast as the "everyman", but there's nothing really there to relate to.

"Wow".

Honestly I think comedic actors like Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Steve Carell are ten thousand leagues above Adam Sandler and his ilk. They're not always cast well (often they're cast quite poorly and make a mockery of themselves), but in the right movie they can really shine. Oh and they can actually act dramatically when the right scene calls for it

Two that always stand out to me are Lucy Liu and Cillian Murphy. Liu, for some reason, I just don't like her in anything I've seen her in, starting with Kill Bill.

Murphy is a bit of a shame, because he is in two of my top five favorite movies, one of which he has the lead in. (The Dark Knight and Sunshine, respectively.) Again, he just rubs me the wrong way in everything he's in.

Michael Madsen and his dumb constipation face has always bothered me. Dude has always had that look in literally all of his movies.

That's cheating, nobody likes those assholes.

Will Ferrel. It's not even rational, I just can't stand his fucking face.

Jennifer Lawrence is also really overrated.

My answer is Daniel Day Lewis. I don't understand why critics will complain about actors over-acting or chewing the scenery. Yet, they will give an enthusiastic pass to Daniel Day-Lewis when he does it in every freakin' movie.

Here's a bit of light relief from my other current thread about poverty: Which actors really work on your nerves? Really rub you the wrong way?

This subject comes to mind as I sit here watching the opening credits to A Time To Kill, the 1996 John Grisham novel adaptation starring Matthew McNaughty (I may not have got the spelling right there)
Since, no one has corrected your spelling yet. Not unless, you meant Porn Star Matthew McNaughty? "Alright, alright, alright. Let's take those panties off."

It's Matthew McConaughey. I think he is alright. He is one of those actors who is good as the material is.

Surprised no one has mentioned Kristin Stewart. The woman cannot act, to the point I believe that she is a cyborg sent back in time to destroy acting (in much the same way that Katie Perry is a cyborg sent back in time to destroy music). I have seen dead people with more emotion on their face.

And she isn't even that pretty to look at. I know that's a really shallow thing to say, but I can forgive a fair bit of bad acting so long as the actress is pretty.

I have the same issue with Yuri Lowenthal and Liam O'Brien. No variation to their performances, with Lowenthal being the generic young man and O'Brien being the generic effeminate man, and they are in bloody everything.

Eh, I kind of consider her a female Keanu Reeves, in that she doesn't do "emotional range" much in her acting. Personally, I don't really have a problem with her as an actress, even though I despise the Twilight movies she's been in. I consider that more a problem with the material than with her.
However I recall seeing her in this movie where she played a teenage girl with some kind of disability. She had difficulty walking, but also had some mental issues. To be honest, I liked her in that movie a lot. I can't really explain why, but I thought she did a good job of playing a girl with some disabilities, but who was still just a regular teenage girl, who wanted a boyfriend, and to have fun, etc. *shrugs*

And I have to disagree with the looks comment. I personally think she's a very stunning young woman, but that's just my personal preference. xD

I don't actively seek out her movies, but I don't despise her as an actress.

Now people might ask:

"But happyninja42, you insane man you! Why do you give Kristen Stewart a pass on being an emotionless actress while criticizing the Deschanel sisters for the same?!"

Good question randomly unnamed forum poster person! Answer: I don't know, she doesn't seem like a hollowed out husk of a human to me, unlike the Deschanel's. They are quite beautiful women, all three of them in my opinion, but the Deschanel's just hit the Uncanny Valley for me, and Kristen doesn't. *shrugs*

Johnny Young Bosch.

I loathe him, and he's in everything. He has no range, no talent, and no sincerity. He's just good at yelling really loud. His career reached self parody levels in the Persona 4 anime, where he voiced both the hero and the villain. His performance was laughably bad, as he was clearly trying to do two different voices, and failed miserably, since, again, he has no range. We were then treated to a scene where Johnny is arguing with himself.

At this point just bite the bullet and let him voice every single character in every show. Including the women and children.

Michael Fassbender, he's a huge piece of shit and serial domestic abuser, whenever I see his face in anything I just get pissed off that he's on the screen instead of in jail.

Michael Cera.

I just didn't like him back when he was doing terrible "comedies", but when I saw him in Scott Pilgrim I started really disliking him.

Any actor that whispers or even mumbles when they're saying something serious, important or whatever. I hate it! pewpew sounds are to loud and whenever they're not just yelling happy or hyped they whisper / mumble the lines.
Ugh get a lesson from Patrick Stewart he's able to sound serious, sad, secretive without lowering his voice to an inaudible mumble.

That film wasn't ENTIRELY Cera's fault, but given what a woeful miscasting he was it's hard not to pin it on him anyway. Ruined a perfectly excellent set of graphic novels with an absolutely wretched film.
