Has a favourite character of yours ever been screwed over by an adaptation or remake of whatever it is he/she appeared in? Perhaps the writers made a boring stereotype out of someone who was once complex and three-dimensional, or conversely tried to squeeze too much depth out of a deliberately simplistic personality? Well, here's your chance to complain about it!

WARNING: WHINING AHEAD

I recently worked my way through all four seasons of Batman: The Animated Series, and the one character I found the most consistently entertaining to watch was Harley Quinn. She's air-headed and exuberant, yet never so much that it gets on my nerves and in fact it just makes her all the more likeable. Yet under her bubbly exterior she's surprisingly competent and dangerous, especially when working on her own (she very nearly killed Batman single-handedly, and would have done so if she hadn't been thrown out a window by a certain abusive boyfriend. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rC5v5dLMW2A])

Harley Quinn in the Rocksteady games... not so much. Don't get me wrong, I love both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, but their Harley is just annoying. She's more or less reduced to being a brainless bimbo groupie, especially in Arkham City where the extent of her roll is to set a completely ineffectual trap for Batman and to whack him with a bat after he's already been gassed by the Joker. The next time you see her she's tied up for some reason, and after that she disappears until the very end of the game and only shows up for about one second. Disappointing, to say the least.

PS: Keep in mind that I haven't played Harley Quinn's Revenge, so I can't say whether it improves things or not. Still, for the most part it seems like they should have just left her out of the Arkham games.

PPS: Also I don't like her new costumes, because I'm probably gay and like penis.

Chow Yun Fat as Roshi does not work.

Every single character in The Last Airbender.

Not even the pronunciation of their names was safe!

Nothing in that movie works. It's a complete mess

Maybe Mos Def playing Ford Prefect in The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy. Just the fact that he didn't fit the character's physical description. He didn't do a bad job. So maybe it's not a good fit for this thread.

I'm always willing to cut the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Film a lot of slack, considering that several of the ideas that people bitched about "changing Douglas Adams' vision" were in fact kept from Douglas Adams original script for the film.

The point of view gun for example was an Adams creation. Plus, people bitching about changing Hitchhikers should realize that pretty much no two editions of the book or radio play or television series are the same. Douglas Adams was constantly adding and playing with things, and the setting's infinite improbability functions made each version just as legitimate as the other.

Plus, I actually really liked Mos Def as Ford. Sure, he didn't look a thing like him, but he made Ford into his own version of the character.

that does always have to be a deal breaker..somtimes its cool to see different things done with a charachter

EDIT: and while physical descriptions in boosk do influence your veiw on charachters...usually I make up my own anyway

I'm not really a hardcore Harry Potter fan but Bartie Crouch jr was made completly unsympathetic in the movie

I'm sure that when The Sandman HBO-series comes (yes people, it's in the works. You may once again thank your deity for HBO) I will have plenty of geared hate for some flaws in adaptation.

Masters of the Universe. I loved He-Man when I was a kid. What happened Mattel? Why the hell are we on Earth? Why'd you have to punch a poor adolescent in the balls like that?

If I have only one choice to make, for sure I will choose the Crow from the Comic.
I must be one of the few people that I hated the Crow the movie cause they wanted to make the movie more exciting in hollywood standards...
Also I hated the villain in th movie..........the villain become so much different from the comic that I shaked my head......

I'm gonna say the Rebuild movies (Neon Genesis Evangelion).

It's way too similar to the original show to be seen as a seperate thing, but it changes so many aspects within the original story concept and characters that it loses it's soul.

Well prehaps you should say....
"With the intensity of OVER NINE THOUSAND angry suns!"

I think I'll leave now.
Oh and most movie tie-in games. With the exeption of spider-man 3. I actually liked that game.

Robin Hood: Both Kevin Costner and Rusell Crowe both are NOT Robin Hood! At all! :/

In fact, the most Robin Hood-like Robin Hood is the guy in Robin Hood men in tights! :p

Yeah, but the Prince of Thieves movie had Alan Rickman as the Sheriff. You can't beat that.

Oh, and it also had Morgan Freeman hurling a giant sword into an eldery woman. >:D

Optimus Prime and Megatron, Why Bay why? why are the title characters secondary to the squishy humans? whhhhy?

Also The Doctor in the in 1960's Doctor Who movies, so much wrong... so much not the Doctor... he's not even a gallifreyan anymore, let alone a Time lord... and worse he's actually called Doctor Who... so much wrong *whimpers quietly in the corner rocking back and forth*

Oh, don't get me wrong, the film is awesome, (If you take out the awkward love scene), it's just Kevin Costner is NOT Robin Hood... all the other characters are great, but KC doesn't have the rogue-esque charisma that Robin Hood should have had!

Yeah, I kow... But he's just so 90's. With his 90's hairdo and voice. I can't help but like him in the part.
