And it got me thinking. Will aliens be friendly? neutral? or hostile?

So what does everyone think?

I personally think that any alien civilisation will be so far advanced technologically that we wouldn't be worth bothering with (and hence we wouldn't attack them as we'd just get shat on), so they'd be neutral in effect.

Opinions people...

An alien civilization that is advanced enough for first contact should be a species advanced enough to not blow you to oblivion.

Unless it's the Goa'uld of course

Well... we have no way of telling until we officially make contact with them.
That is right, I said officially. Who's to tell we haven't already met some?
Like the Orfine. Those guys and gals are cool.

I think we should stop focusing so much on finding "intelligent" life, and concentrate on finding life at all.

More on topic: They'd more than likely be neutral, unless they were looking to expand to other planets through force.

Well. The most likely truth is that there are either no alien civilizations out there, or just not advanced enough. They probably would have made contact, or not, because they aren't there, or just not advanced enough.
[sub]Sshh, last time we digged too deep they wiped our minds, remember?[/sub]

See, everyone always assumes that we'll be contacted by some central authority that will be far too advanced to be hostile, but what if some random, average nobbers with any old crappy tub find us and decide not to tell the great galactic council of Drax about us; prefering to have a bit of a monkey hunt on the quiet?..

I'd assume they'd be having similar thoughts to us. Some would want to make peace and become our allies, other would want to exterminate us and some would want to study us.

Well, depends what they are looking for. Are they looking for new life? Then Friendly. Resources then neutral , depends how we take it. World domination? Hostile/neutral.

I think that if aliens are advanced enough to make contact with us, then killing us all would be very low down on their to-do list.

Aliens have already landed here...look at Roswell, NM and Area 51? We most likely have alien technology if there is any but it's all being hidden away and secretly being used to control our brains.

I think of it this way:

If you were an advanced species and you saw a race who found any excuse to kill each other for the piddling resources of a dying planet, a race who has the ambition to head out amongst the stars, what would you do?

If it was my call, I'd write "Knock it off, you bastards!!" across the Moon.

this is nonsense. there's not a single fact in there, not even something about an advance in technology or a hint of extra terrestrial life. just someone yelling: "There might be aliens and they might not be friendly!"
yeah, I think we figured THAT out around the time hollywood got involved...
actually, I think that if there is an alien civilization, WE'd be the aggressors, seeing as humans are assholes and all...
also I think as soon as we can, we will try to colonize space and if someone lives there already, well, too bad for them.
It'll be the 18th & 19th century all over again. only with more SP4C3 L4Z0RZ.

What is the chance that they are not so advanced though?
I am thinking something along the lines of halo brutes.
Or possibly super advanced predators...

Bollocks. We, the British, were astronomically far ahead of Africans when we colonised their countries and often killed a lot of them. The idea that advanced = peaceful is such a crock of shit.

If we don't get in communication then we will not know when Earth is scheduled to be demolished to make way for an intergalactic bypass.

Space is pretty big anyway. I suppose in a few tens of thousands of years we might get a message back from hostile aliens telling us that they hate our human asses and we are going to be exterminated in just a few million years, as soon as they can get here.

Unless the Aliens are already here in which case we are pretty much at their mercy, I suppose.

I meant Star Trek advanced where world peace has been achieved and we have colonized Mars and can travel FTL etc

The sentient ones that come here will likely be neutral or friendly. There is the chance, of course, that they'll try sending us to slave camps or meat-processing plants. I am hoping for friendlies though ...

The microorganisms will be the hostile ones though for sure.

I don't think we'd even get a chance to figure out if their friendly or not, considering the "shoot first, ask question later" trend of contact that the human race has favored over the millenia
