Despite all the explosions and gunfire, this still looks like a scarier game than Dead Space 3.

Seems that Gearbox, of all producers, knows to turn the lights off once in a while.

In the movies, they are never given a proper name and are called either "The Alien" or "Xenomorphs", which is why fans/general populace call them Xenomorphs. However in official canon (by which I mean the movies) they do have a proper name, Internecivus raptus
I don't know how I feel about the fact that a great mystery to me has just been solved...

Ahhhhh, can't wait for this to come out. It's my first official "Holy shit, I HAVE to get this game!" game of 2013. For context, I'm a huge Aliens/Predator fan. :p

This is definately going for thr Aliens feel rather than Alien or Alien 3. Bad ass over the top to the max.

The game still looks interesting to me. I think what a lot of people forget is that it took some tactically idiotic decisions in "Aliens" (i.e. taking away the marines ammunition) to get the marines slaughterd. The Aliens may be physically superior to humans, but guns and technology tend to more than make up for that. Against an armed organized force (marines) it will take either peculiar tactical situations or massive numbers to make it into a fight. The large number of Aliens in the trailer and the confusing / tight architecture of the facility should do that. Just don't expect one Alien to stalk and wipe out a bunch of marines like they were the unarmed crew of a civilian freighter.

Oh come on. I was actually enjoying that trailer then suddenly WUUBB WUBB CHKCHKCHK WRRRRRRRR. I still don't understand what people see in dubstep. It doesn't even fit the Aliens feel. At all.

For the record, the narration isn't in the game :p.

This trailer could have been improved by a better voice-actor, that is it. I didn't mind the dubstep, it's good to have a crazy-ass blood-pumping trailer among the more suspenseful ones.

Hmmm... I like how they're making a sequel to Aliens by essentially remaking Aliens. Very clever. Very meta.
It's like the Evil Dead 2!

Honestly, I hope the marines you're with survive for longer than five minutes. Its really tiresome knowing that every time I play an alien game i'm going to be on my own and the entire game is just going to be "go to this area, shoot aliens, pull lever".

Some of the most fun I had with AvP was working with the other marines because it feels like you need to keep the aliens off their backs.

I take issue with the cargo hauler used obsessively as a weapon. When it was used in Aliens, it was Ripley making the most out of an impossible situation. But now games want to use these as badass mechs. :\ Puts a sour taste in my mouth.

What got the marines killed was overconfidence. They had no clue what they were facing, they panicked, and everything went to shit from there. Taking the ammo away was a kinda stupid decision, but only insofar as they were ordered to continue the mission anyway. Given that it could have set off a reactor explosion, removing the ammo was smart, but what would have been smarter was to pull them out rather than send them on unarmed. Once again the problem is overconfidence.

I'd have to disagree with you. Aliens move essentially silently, take an incredible amount of punishment, don't seem to need to breath, have no problem with vacuum or deep-sea pressure and can squeeze themselves into places a marine can't fit. One xenomorph can potentially murder a whole squad of marines by picking them off.

Certainly this tends to be played down a bit in the games, where the marines are still cannon fodder but are given the potential to do significant damage, but that's because they're games. If the marines were as vulnerable as they are in the books/comics/movies, it wouldn't be any fun to play :p

I'm more confused why, on a meta level, people call them Xenomorphs. That's basically just calling them the Aliens, only in Greek. And I think it makes a hell of a lot more sense to just call them the Aliens then.
Saying 'xenomorph' makes them sound more educated than 'scary alien bug', perhaps? :p

The dialogue is so bad, the writer disowned the trailer. He didn't write it, some idiot did in marketing.

I don't think it even matches up with the macho badass dialogue of Aliens. That was witty, and full of character. This is just the generic bullshit you get from every drill sergeant training montage ever.

EDIT: also, that line where he says "don't die unless I give a direct order." Here is hoping the entire platoon drops dead the moment he says "March!".

"We fight for the title of toughest motherfuckers in the universe".

Oh, fuck you, I hope you die. This trailer is so bad I don't even want to get close to the game. The only thing I liked about the last Alien game is you could play as a xenomorph and kill some of these idiotic marines, it's only fair to help humanity get rid of these testosterone filled skinsacks.

Scariest part of that trailer is all the jaggies. Hasn't anyone at Gearbox/Sega heard of anti-aliasing?

Alos really poor writing there. Glad it's not from the game if that's true.

I guess that depends on weather you think it is canon or not, they never actually use that name in ANY of the movies the Alien Quadrology set uses the name in one of its menus.

Not sure what to make of the trailer, the last Alien based game I enjoyed was the original AvP and that managed to do scary very nicely, that video was just a whole bunch of shooting at cannon fodder not really a huge tension builder.
