You still are trying to blend the bitchy suburban whiny emo genre with other music. Keep cutting emo kid. I'm sure your parents will unground you one day. Oh, and for the record, bashing Twilight is a sign of intelligence, so what does that say about bashing Emo?

If it's an actual musical difference, I've yet to hear it, nor has anyone argued yet for its existence. The hate for "emo" music comes from it being more whiny than other music. But, as I hope you saw from the Queen and Beatles songs I quoted, the differences seems mostly superficial at best.

A self-pitying/angry/angsty band you like isn't "emo". The same level of angst in a band you don't like it "emo". That makes us all sound like jackasses
See that's the thing. Queen isn't "emo" because Emo (or if I absolutely MUST call it "emotional hardcore" to get the point across) is specifically a more melancholy subdivision of punk. Technically the shortening of "Emo" is derivative from the WORD "emotional," but when used to describe the genre it's used as a substitution for the original "emotional hardcore" name the genre is given. but if you just say "it means emotional so when you call linkin park and AFI emo and you listen to johnny cash that makes you a hypocrite" it doesn't work because you're INTENTIONALLY misinterpreting the word "Emo."

Woah..

Okay, first off I'm not 100% sure on what you want to say. You want people to stop calling emo music emo because all music is emotional?

Kay.. First, "emo" is call "emo" because, like you said, came from Emotional Hardcore, which (to my knowledge) came as an offshoot from Hardcore music in the 80s. It took a more melodic, rhythmic and deeper emotional approach, as opposed to hardcore's straight ahead angry thing.

When you said that The Clash and those other bands were angsty before "emo" existed you are right, but you wouldn't call those bands Emo. Because the term "Emo" came to describe a certain style of music that came from DC in the 80's.

Emo is a cultural term, just like pretty much every other genre name I can think of off the top of my head. Nowadays Indie music has a certain lyrical, musical and style characteristic about it, it doesn't just mean a band is on an indie label, in fact there are some Indie bands that are on Majors.

Okay, I think I'm getting away from your original point.

Most people have a general lack of understanding when it comes to music sub-genres, therefore, when they call something Emo, chances are they don't know what they are talking about.

Lets just leave it at that

What does that mean exactly? I would argue that Stanton Moore is "emo" by the definition I bolded, and he's a jazz drummer. Same with Corrosion of Conformity, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, High on Fire, Aphex Twin, blah blah blah blah blah. Emo as a genre is just stupid because it's so incredibly vague. Really, it's just a form of pop-punk in my mind, and based on the things you've cited as emo. That's not necessarily good or bad. I happen to like Jimmy Eat World (ha! JEW) a fair bit, so I'm not hating.
It is quite vague, but yes, you would be right in comparing it to pop-punk. It is closest to that. I mean, that is where it stemmed from.
