Less hand holding (playing follow the quest compass is no fun)
they did great with the dungeon crawling in Daggerfall, but a lot of the time they became too much of a mess and you could fail quests while you were trying to escape the dungeon that you were sent to in that same quest
granted, it was a very atmospheric and immersive mess (like that one dungeon that's nothing but Nymphs), but it was still a mess
on a side note, I still remember the first time I arrived on Daggerfall City at night, before I got the levitation-enchanted equipment
