That's just bizarre; I abhor LOL, but it's massively popular for most of the reasons the serious DOTA players hate it. You're insinuating that nobody wants to sponsor the most played game, but they'd be falling all over themselves to back the best Dota because.. business and marketing is driven by competitive integrity and not eyeballs? Let alone the fact that Valve started this whole 'Million dollars, GO' marketing tool in the first place.

Generally, on a professional level, with this much money involved, even "it was our first time" is no excuse. If they don't have the expertise, they should hire it.

That said, I find it weirdly appropriate that in a game where matches so often devolve to flamewars between players, the tournament is marred by a clusterfuck of derps.
Now just blame the jungler, and everything is as it should be.
In all honesty, if that's your experience 'often' there's a variable in all those games.

I'll give you a hint. You.

Ahh, LoL is far from being the most played game, since you are comparing it directly to DotA it might have 1/5 of matches played or so in recent years.

BTW, I don't hate it, actually I don't care about it, just in this thread for the lulz.

For the Dota 2 Internationals, at least, they won first place for the first game and got smashed into second back in August, I'd say that that proves that while they might not be the best, they are among the very best.
And DendiPudge is what made me fall in love with one of my 3 top 10 heroes now.
They are, a shame they don't strive to be better. At this rate I don't think a non chineese will win the international in a loooong while.

OT: I actually watched all of these games unlike most of the people posting in this thread. Frost was the only team that the screen cheating actually massively helped them out, their opponents strategy heavily relied on a first blood and the screen cheat by Woong led to Frost totally being able to shut it down.

Even though they got fined it isn't enough IMO, either remake those games (even though Frost would likely win again) or reduce Frosts total winnings by %20.

Riot has dropped the ball recently and is kind of a joke right now, they need to make an example and show that cheating just doesn't fly.
I don't see why the team should be punished at all because of Riot's incompetence. If they honestly didn't think that having the big screens in view of the players was a really bad idea before hand then that's their own damn fault. You can't do that and then expect players not to look. You either do your job right up front or you admit you fucked up, fix it, and if possible re-do the matches. Fining a team because the organizers couldn't do their job properly and avoid the most obviously bad thing in the entire world is laughable.

It's basically saying that even though all of the fault for this being possible lies with them, they're going to try and pass the blame and the financial consequences on to someone else. God forbid we expect these people to take the responsibility themselves.

This was like a week ago,and might I add that anyone in their shoes would do the same, like you know,THE OTHER TEAMS!?
When crucial information is just 30 degrees from your blind spot and a slight turn would reveal it,for the sake of a chance of winning 2,000,000$,which is your only source of income,of course you're going to do it.Also this also shows clear bias from Riot, because NA favorites got knocked out immediately, even they admitted that they were outright outplayed.

The amount of bias is astounding.

No they don't, they need to show themselves to not be colossal retards and admit that they are the ones who compromised the integrity of the game by using the honor system in a game with a $2mil prize pool. It should not be possible to cheat by turning the fuck around, it's retardation at level of putting an "I win" button on their keyboards.

I admit, my attempts at humour aren't always funny, but I'd think this particular stab at comedy would've been obvious enough.
There's no way you could've known, but your reply does make for a quite amusing read, as I really do go out of my way to stay out of flame fests during matches - it works wonders for my blood pressure.

Screen peeking isn't cheating. Everyone has the same tools and some use them better than others or are more willing to.

No I know that Riot is an incapable company. I watched as there was 5 disconnects which led to restarts in games where there were clear winners. The shoutcasters had to keep talking for over 8 hours without water or toilet breaks.

But to say this is all Riots fault is untrue, sure they should have made it impossible for these teams to cheat, but they didn't. They clearly stated that it was an honor system where if the teams looked they would be penalized.

Oh and I agree that these games should be remade %100 but I know Riot has no intention of doing this because there would be way to much outcry for remakes for all the games which they could not do.

Dat ruined lvl 1 gank made me sad because I was rooting for TSM :(

Also, I was at the semi finals game when the Internet went out like 10x times. The day ended with us not watching more than the first round over and over again =_=

although they did compensate us with goodies for it. Also, I have a friend who works at Riot, and she's been sleeping like 5 hours a day for the past week. Lol, I wonder why

Maybe do your research or something before saying things that are blatantly wrong. League is recognized as the most played game in the world right now, officially beating WoW with the amount of active users it has.

To say that LoL has 1/5 of the games played that DotA has is a joke. more like DotA has 1/15 games played that LoL does.

Man, I am glad I don't care about DOTA-likes lol. Muscle memory makes not looking in the direction your eye is drawn difficult. It's like holding your breath, it's easier to just take the fucking breath already. The image of these super-serious pro gamers in the midst of an important match with thousands of dollars on the line straining not to glance at the cheat screen cracks me up.

Here's the problem I have with this: making up a rule about being on an honour system to not cheat when it is so easy to do with screens within view is a band-aid solution to their incompetence. In fact, they just look even more incompetent by expecting anyone to even follow it. Sorry, but the blame lies 100% with them on this. If you don't want anyone looking at the big screens to have an unfair advantage then you don't let them play somewhere where they can see them easily from where they're sitting. End of story. You don't make silly bullshit rules to cover for a problem you created. These players have every incentive to win with that much money on the line and human nature is simply going to be that one or more teams will try and take advantage of it. It's a rule that does absolutely nothing in effect except punish them for trying to win (the goal of the tournament) more easily.

Anyway, I'm rambling now. Point is, with that much money on the line, they're idiots if they think no ones going to try and look and gain an advantage, and their idiots for not making one of several simple decisions in setting up the venue which would insure they never needed a band-aid rule to try and solve the problem. They created the situation, they set up the temptation to cheat, and surprise surprise, some people succumbed. This is absolutely 100% on them because the problem was 100% preventable by them.

I do my research and:

- LoL ammount of matches played according to Riot over 1 billion in tree years (http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngaudiosi/2012/07/11/riot-games-league-of-legends-officially-becomes-most-played-pc-game-in-the-world/)

- DotA ammount of matches played according to the client 11 admin 4.9 billion in one year (http://t.qq.com/p/t/87495011667263)

- DotA client eleven is the biggest one in china and surrounding areas, but not the only one.

So, no, I do my math, and do my research, and was bieng quite generous, a harsher estimate would be that DotA was played 10 times more than LoL last year. Now, if you are talking about america or only Valve's Dota, sure, LoL is bigger by around 10 times, but i assumed we were talking about the world. And yeah, i know i am linking a forbes article with less than accurate info.

Well I was pretty sure we were talking about Valves DotA, but I'll just leave this here: http://majorleagueoflegends.s3.amazonaws.com/lol_infographic.png

If you don't want to read it all just look at the bottom.

Which is of course ignoring that they are smaller than the chineese DotA clients. I gave you the official numbers of both DotA and LoL, so unless you say DotA admins are lying, there is no way around it, DotA is played more.
