I was tempted until I looked it up and saw it was a 3rd person game, I would be better off throwing my $2 away then wasting time playing another 3rd person RPG.

I can cook up two cheeseburgers and a few handfuls of french fries and the entire meal costs me less than two dollars, with careful shopping. You seem to be underestimating two dollars.

On the other hand, I bought a bunch of Fallout NV DLC for $7.50 or something a piece on sale at one point, and haven't bothered to even try to play it yet.

I guess i'll give it a shot. Worst case is you owe me two cheeseburgers and three handfuls of french fries.

No thanks. If you say its good, then I'll believe you to an extent(from some reviews I've seen, the game is only good if you play certain builds and isn't very kind to others), especially given the whole 2 bucks thing.

However, You've yet to convince me its worth my time. I just got the original Deus Ex, which I'm not completely drooling over yet, which doesn't speak well for a knockoff. GOG is currently offering both Baldur's Gates, both Icewind Dales, and Neverwinter Nights for 3 bucks, all of which I have much more interest in.

I would, but I don't think you can add only $2 to your Steam Wallet, and I only have $2 on this Visa Gift Card (I think, it won't let me check...).

EDIT: Holy crap it worked! Now this card is worthless. Kinda doubt the game will work on my computer, but it's just $2. Might work on the desktop...

Does Alpha Protocol have a "low quality" mode?

Worth the money.. It's a shame it won't be making a sequel.

Lack of advertisement killed it, game flew under the radar.

Seriously $2 isn't worth it? Full game length is around 10 hours. $2 for 10 hours of entertainment. Think about it.

Last time someone told me a game had interesting conversations, I wanted to pull their tongue out. However, for 2 dollars (probably more in Australia), I will at least give it a look.

Thanks for sharing that with us.

Alpha Protocol has niche appeal.
It appears that most people polarize over it.

I personally loved it, but I can see why others didn't like it in the least.

But seriously, 2 USD is too much to give it a try?
Would you rather purchase a piece of candy that satisfies you for an hour at least, or a decent game that has around 10+ hours of gameplay?

I can't convince you to love it, but you should at least give it a shot before instantly condemning it.

DON'T DO IT!

Alpha Protocol = shittier Deus Ex Human Revolution.

I got it for my PS3 for $20, good game but the boss fights are just unfair.
seems like it, however, deus ex = 50 bucks on steam/alpha protocol = 2. (i bought both, deus ex is awesome)

Reason number one is above me.

Another is its too late for the company to get back money from dev time, since not many sold.
Picture for thought.

It's worth full price. Fantastic game. Flawed? Yes. But it shines in a couple of big areas: choice (both in how you play and the decisions you make) and consequence. The fighting is good, you just need to make sure you know what the hell you're doing. I saw someone trying to review the game once by showing a minute of footage of him trying to rapid fire with the pistol at medium range. If you're using the pistol, keep the crosshairs on the target for just a few seconds. Fire, and enjoy the satisfaction of a clean and quiet kill.

Most underrated game in years.
agreed, every time i see someone trashing on the gameplay ,it's because they are running in like a cod tard going "HERP DERP SHOOT AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE WHILE RUNNING!" instead of trying to play it like an rpg -_-

and personally i found the boss battles awesome.

russian 80's fanatic? yes please.

they were at least semi creative in that aspect, since so many people are calling it a "deus ex rip off", even tho it plays 10x better and the characters/story are 10x better than the original DE

I can buy a box of tea for two bucks. (They run a lot of sales at my local grocery store.)

I'll give it a look but no promises.

I mean, what's the worst that can happen? You don't like it? It's only 2 dollars! What ELSE can you buy with 2 dollars!? Maybe a coke?
At least if I buy a coke, the Coca Cola company can't decide they don't like something nasty I posted on a forum and take it back.
Well...the last 5 or so bottles of coke I've bought have been flatter than a pancake...so buying coke is not risk free

I've gone over to Pepsi tbh. I also bought Alpha Protocol. 2?...I could probably make more money if I cleaned my couch.

Seriously. Just stop what you are doing, and go buy Alpha Protocol. It's a great game. Sure, it might be a little rough around the edges, but once you can get past that, you will be rewarded. It has a lush and incredibly dialogue system: each conversation is interesting, deep, and complex. If you want to see how conversations are done in games, then go play it. It's also one of the very few games that actually DELIVERS on the promise that "every action has a consequence," since the game will change radically depending on how you treat characters and behave in missions (it can tell if you are a stealthy or guns blazing person :O). Just remember that it's NOT a shooter with RPG elements, but an actual RPG. You do have to increase your skill in weapons if you want to use them. You can't just magically equip a pistol and headshot everyone.

I mean, what's the worst that can happen? You don't like it? It's only 2 dollars! What ELSE can you buy with 2 dollars!? Maybe a coke?
You also forget to mention that the gameplay is generally terrible, character building is extremely poorly balanced, the story is hard to follow on a single playthrough, the dialogue system is vague and sometimes misleading, bossfights are really badly designed and it's really buggy.... but yeah $2 is worth it definitely... I mean I got it for $5 and is say its worth that much...<.<

Meh, I paid the £1.50 for it. It was a bargain, and I'll play it at least once to see whether it's any good. If it's not, then oh well, that's £1.50 I should have bought a bus ticket with. It's no big deal. Also what tzimize said. If I cleaned my room I''d turn up at least a fiver...

Well, Alpha Protocol is listed for US$3 for us Australian-tier consumers, so fuck them and their discriminatory price regime, I'm still not buying.

Eh well I bought it. Truthfully I didn?t really expect much and I probably won't even play it for quite awhile because other games at the moment I want to play but hey it could be awesome and at $3.80 NZD I'm not losing too much if I don't like it.
Damn you old or cheap but still awesome games and steam! Before money use to be problem, now I have more of a problem with time. (yes I know this is not a REAL problem)

Thanks for the tip! I've just completed the purchase. I've been intrigued by this game for a while, but not enough to pay full price, so this is perfect!

Personally, Alpha Protocol is the sequel to Deus Ex that Human Revolution will never be. It took choice to a new level, to a point that even the troll himself Yatzhee complimented it. Human Revolution played it way to safe gameplay wise.

If you want a game with fun characters, great rpg-mechanics and a good choice-based style of storytelling, get this game. The story is a bit cluttered at times, but it does it's job. Only thing that's a bit annoying are the bosses that can be a bit annoying if you have a certain build that doesn't include shotguns, rifles or pistols.
