Competition is healthy and all, but I couldn't give a fiddlers which one of them has the current fastest graphics card at the moment. I'd never spend that kind of money on a single piece of hardware for a computer, it's beyond the scope of what I need my computer to do.

The one reason I've stuck with Nvidia throughout the years is because I've never (Me, personally, this person here) have had an issue or problem with their hardware or drivers. I have had problems with ATI cards in other machines.

"World's Fastest Graphics Card."
Not for long. I'll give it about 2 days before a better version comes out.
By my understanding, the reason that AMD is calling nVidia out is because it failed it's goals. Usually, they release one after the other so that the best card is the newest lineup from whatever company, E.g. AMD brings out new top-line card, it's fastest, nVidia brings out new top-line card, it's fastest etc etc.. but the nVidia card is actually the newest one, yet it's slower than the older AMD card, hence being called out on it.

What makes it worse is that it alos means that AMD is next to bring out a new line of cards, meaning that they've been top for a while. :)

(I think!)

Come on! Some good honest, face to face competition.

How sad is it that this is so refreshing?
As good as competition is this comes as childish to me.
Obviously, competition is something men enjoy so it's inherently childish.

fucking awesome.....

I use both nVidia and AMD, and I honestly don't see much of a difference between the two other than pricing...

but to have one call the other out to show if it is faster... that takes balls..... probably made from some sort of metal....
A metal that is possibly brass?

PS: Who the fuck does SLI or that Crossfire thing, anyway? Why would you need 2 cards, unless your monitor was the size of a shed?
The answers you've seen cover about half the people who do it, and their reasons. The other half aren't sure why they need two cards either.

I have an AMD and have never had an issue with it. For my use ( HD video editing ) it seems to do everything I need it for exceptionally well.

Why the hell am I a fan of nVidia when AMD is cheaper? Perhaps a better question would be why does nVidia pretend like competition isn't a thing and keep their prices higher anyway? Seriously, I bought an older nVidia card for $140. I love the thing and it gets the job done, but I know things have gotten a lot more powerful since then. Then my brother gets one of the newer AMD cards for the same price and it's technically better in most categories. SAY WUUUUUUUUUT?

Follow up question: why will my next card probably be nVidia again? I guess it's because I know they work well with my computer, but still.

It's been far too long since we've had good, vicious competition in a lot of computer parts.

My 5770 can run every single game at max settings on 1080p (1920x1080, 60hz, progressive scan) with 4x AA and 8X anisotrpic filtering, admittedly I have to push the fan speed up when I go on a game, but it does it none the less.
No, you can't.... I don't believe for a second you can run metro 2033, stalker or DA 2 at max settings and get anywhere decent frame rates. But maybe you are happy playing at 15-20 FPS.
Haven't got them, but everything i've tried up to now the worst I get is 40 fps, it may be due to my processor aswell, got a AMD Phenom II X4 965 (quad core 3.4ghz) that may be taking over some of the work, tried Crysis(>40), Bad Company 2(>40), new Medal of Honour(=60). Not that fussed on DA2 anyway after trying the demo, but would like to try the others when I can.

It breaks my heart to say this, and I feel as if I am betraying nVidia, as they helped me through my tough times of playing The Sims 2, right up until this February, but they really do need to pick up their game.

I know that my new AMD graphics card is a far superior model to my old 9800GT, but not once have I had an error with crashing, or an update going wrong (which was from the very first with nVidia).

I...I'm sorry nVidia, but unless you can turn yourself around this time, I'm going to have to truly let you go and fully embrace the glory of AMD...
Now, now go! Before I cry anymore!

Gonna have to chip in here: my 5770HD is fucking sweet. I can run Supreme Commander 2 on full graphics on one screen, and Dead Space (1) on full graphics on the other and not get any lag or drop in framerate.
I can run Crysis with everything on full, with the only drop coming from modded-speed+motion blur.
And Stalker on full? I could do that on my old 9800GT.
I know I'm going to sound retarded asking, but what is DA2? I probably know, I'm just very tired.

Also, I can run BC2 on full graphics no problem, DX11 AvP full graphics no problem and I can watch a full-screen 1080p movie AND play DoW2:Retribution with full graphics and not get any framerate drop.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Dragon Age 2. That game looks like horseshit, comparatively. I wouldn't be surprised if I could run that with 2 instances going and have it on full.

Also, I can run GTAIV on full (bar shadow quality) without any framerate issues.

The 5770 is boss, with great output for great value.

That's why I got one, and thanks for helping prove my point with the rest of your post that I snipped out.

Here's me sitting with my mid-range AMD card...
Anyway I've noticed a lot of major brands are naming their main competitor instead of just saying stuff like "vs the other leading brand".
The only example I can recall now like this is "Huggies" and "Pampers" nappies (diapers for you Americans)

*Sits back, reaches for popcorn*

Since I can't afford and don't need either of these cards, but enjoy keeping an eye on this particular industry anyway, I shall enjoy the ensuing bitchfight as pure entertainment.

May the company whose claim is actually valid win! (I won't say 'the best' company, that would be silly now, wouldn't it?)

Better question- who is willing to pay £500 for some tech that only marginally performs better (in real terms) over it's apparently "outdated" predecessors?

Nvidia and AMD are getting nervous- graphics on the PC are plateauing, and people are moving over to consoles, depriving them of a big money milker. So they just treat every card as if it's revolutionary, despite no real person being able to notice or care about any difference.

PS: Who the fuck does SLI or that Crossfire thing, anyway? Why would you need 2 cards, unless your monitor was the size of a shed?
*raises hand*

Everytime you click on a Critical Miss strip you're adding pennies to my "Ridiculous fucking graphics card" fund.

Some people, me included, are simply enthusiasts, we like maintaining and upgrading our PC's. It's similar to people souping up their cars really, negligible benefits outside of it being another way to spend your time and money.

That being said, my slick neons and beastly megahalem overclock has never, and will never, get me laid. Which makes it slightly less useful than souping up a car.

As for Crossfire/sli they used to be a shining example of "HAHA LOOK HOW RICH I AM!" but as of late two mid-range crossfire cards are outpeforming the fuck out of the higher end cards.

AMD have really been the front runners for years and everyone knows it now, Nvidia have always been a market hype company like mac, sony etcrar. Hopefully this will make Nvidia think twice before it feeds its fanbase with more lies but then again if consumers eat up one slogan they are likely to eat up them all.

Give it 2 years and intel will buy Nvidia's gpu line once they successfully hit rock bottom, Mark my words dont believe just watch their share ticker. There basic company is not built to take the hard hit from AMD. Just look at BFG cards per example. Nvidia aims at making the same if not increasing profit every year fooling even themselfs that there product line is better then the competion.

mehh fun anyway nice to see rivaly again aye.
Agreed, AMD has been ahead in the hardware game for a few years now. Just look at the power and heat that nVidia cards need and put out.

I am looking forward to their Mobo/GPU products
Really the current AMD/ATI is pretty crap compared to the nvidia range if said that statement 9 months I would have agreed but things have changed with the 6000 vs gtx 500 series. Also would like a 6990 there so loud and hot the gtx 590 is much quite and cooler even if it is slower.

That's fair enough. But then the 'every single game' in your post should have read 'every single game I've tried', otherwise it is misleading. Metro 2033 is the new 'can it play Crysis?' standard. Was hoping Crysis 2 would be the new Crysis standard, but that's another discussion.
