So you're complaining about American complaining?

Nevermind the complete hypocrisy there.

As of right now, the new Zealand dollar is 77c canadian. Canadian games are the same prices as USA games. Therefore, the price of a game in new Zealand should be 25% more, or for a 60$ game here, it should be 78$ there.

Now, if we really want to factor in average income, then their game should cost 106$.

If anyone REALLY wants, I could put the math up here too, but working the numbers out this is what it comes out to.
Thank you. The problem with the Op's figure is that he dosen't factor in the diffrence in the bills worth. The game's come out (Roughly) to the same price and seeing as how he is complaining about the price right now, I would say we have the same right to.
Also this statement is incorrect. Even using the exchange rate a US$60 game comes to around $80-90NZD depending on how our ER is feeling that day. Last I checked $90<$120.

The guy below me pretty much took the words from my mouth.

that $110 is about $80 USD so that is still alot but you have to factor in shipping and the fact that the game companies don't expect to sell as much in those countries so to make up for that they raise the price.
The games aren't made there and as such they need to be shipped in which in turn makes them cost more. Throw in the fact that New Zealend is a smaller market then the Americas and you got a higher price for games. Also, where are you hearing this whining from? I haven't heard someone complain about the price of games in a long time.

The NZ dollar is worth less the the USA dollar. That's why you numerically make more money and that's why games cost more over there as well.

And we can ***** about whatever we want. It's just as justified as someone making a thread, whining about another person's whining.

I understand and appreciate that the USA has one of the lowest price tags out there, and that $60 is not too much to ask for a game, especially a grade-A title like, say, Fallout 3.

Highlighted the incorrect statement.

Canadian games cost about $10 more, and then another $10 or so if you include taxes. Where I live (Ontario), it's +13% tax, so a new console game actually costs $70 CAD + another $10 = $80 CAD! It's kind of ridiculous when you think about how close the Canadian dollar is to the U.S dollar. I never really understood why we're charged $10 (retail pricing) more when the rates are so close nowadays.

It's quite expensive, but it's not nearly as bad as other places get it, as OP ranted about.
Here in Manitoba, the prices are IDENTICAL to USA prices. Yeah, we still get killed on the tax here (12%), but we are talking price of game, not taxes.

Well here in Britain we pay £40 - £45 for a game on release day which is bout $66 - $73 american dollars and im not sure bout AUD or NZD and tbh im too tired to bother looking it up.

Occasionally a game is more - Modern Warfare 2 was £55 on realease day and thats a lot but for every over priced game I see on the shelves - theres always a nice counter for it on steam or play.com

So tbh I dont tend to whine about the price of games - I buy about 1 game a month and only really get narked off when the price is high on a game I like - I couldnt give a rats arse if they charged £100 for FIFa game (yes I spelt it with a lower case 'a' but thats how uninterested I am in it) as its an appauling game but if someone tried to charge me £55 for Assassins Creed II then I'd be unhappy (to say the least)

But the way I see it - where there are prices - there will be someone complaining bout them. end of...

I understand that the currency difference doesn't equal the price difference, but you can't ignore the fact that the New Zealand dollar is worth substantially less than the US dollar in this issue.
That doesn't explain why Americans pay $60 and Australians pay $100.
Considering as of this moment the Aus dollar is worth about 92 US cents.

Meaning we should realistically be paying around the $65 mark.
There are two big reasons why Australians pay more for games:

First (And Foremost) is that it's a lot harder to get a game sold in Australia, mainly due to your government's method of classifying games.

Second (And more jokingly) the reason that games are cheap in the US and expensive in Australia is that, generally speaking, Americans complain vocally and powerfully about high prices (We'll still complain even when the prices are comparatively low: we're never satisfied, even if it's air cheap (cheaper than dirt cheep). It's a trait that those of us in the states have left over from the revolutionary war), and Australians generally (from what I've seen) keep their complaints about price to either themselves or a group of close friends or gaming partners (Present thread excluded).

Don't worry, Australia is quite expensive as well, with new games often costing $90-110 Aus. I'm actually quite happy that I'm not into videogames like I used to be, as now I just wait a few months for the price to drop and pick them up for $50-60 and save heaps. It makes a huge difference.
Aye I currently hate being in Australia. Wait a min, I always have =D
