Made me cry? Clannad makes everyone and everything cry. Clannad breaks your mind, soul, and emotions into tiny chunks, smashing them repeatedly and brutally until they're nothing but dust, then slowly and painfully reforms that dust back into your mind, soul, and emotions, eventually leaving them whole and better off, but forever branded with the extreme highs and heartbreaking lows of its story. Clannad absolutely breaks you, and it's an amazing experience that you can never forget.
this is the truest thing i've ever read on this site. Clannad got me, as did AnoHana, twice. Slightly off topic, but Spice and Wolf II made me want to choke that little merchant kiddie tryin to take Holo from Lawrence, so that's something

Cowboy Bebop. The song "Memory" by the Seatbelts gets me every damn time. I get that distant look in Spike's eyes everytime I here it. Needless to say, it's on my youtube playlist of relaxing/thinking music. Look it up.

I just recently watched the anime version of Elfen Lied (recommended by a friend) and I have to say it's the anime that has brought me closest to tears. Not actual tears though, because I'm a manly man from Manstralia.

Grave of the Fireflies.

My god it is the most depressing thing I've ever seen, it's literally a story about two young children getting shit on over and over and over again until they die. I could barely watch it =/

Clannad didn't come close. After Story got close though. But, I remained steadfast.

For some reason, Gurren Lagann also came close. I really don't know how that happened.

So ultimately, no. Never cried. The reviewer in me denies me emotions. >.>

Never seen one that made me cry but then again the only ones I remember are all the terrible kids shows about children capturing animals to abuse.

2nd Season of GitS: Stand Alone Complex, final episodes when the Tachikomas sacrifice themselves (they hurl the satellite containing their AIs into the path of a nuke) while singing a cheerful Japanese kids song. Makes me tear up just thinking about it.

Closest I ever came was for Grave of the Fireflies. Which I now want to see again to find out what its effect will be all these years after the first time I saw it.

You know what, Clannad and Clannad: After story.

Made me cry with the characters...

So sad!
That is why it is my favorite anime.

i remember the end of the first three series of digimon being pretty depressing (not includeing the fast forward in 2 obviously but the bit before that)

Bawled my eyes out at Elfen Lied. I am a manly man, an explosion of hairs on my chest. But I have no filter what so ever when it comes to tv and movies, for some reasons... I tell you, the things I have cried at. And Elfen Lied made me cry the most, at least for animes.

Chrono Crusade.

I would discuss the ending, but I don't feel like bawling my eyes out at the moment.

Well, Clannad: After story (obviously). Watched it all in one go.
Then Elfen Lied. Memory segment, when those bullies killed a puppy and Lucy got sad (and murderous, as she so often does).
Last Exile. Near the end when Dio Eraclea returned to his sences and Luciola was nowhere to be found.
And GitS: SAC 2. Sacrifice of Tachikomas was the first moment in anime that ever made me shed a tear.
