How do you feel about this philosophy? Are you against it? Are you highly in favor?

I'm personally for it in most cases. I mean sure you can think up crazy ass scenarios against it, but say in general?

No, I usually feel the effort expended in trying to match a hurt can hurt you more than the person you're trying to hurt...

If you know what I mean?

I'm largely in favour of it for minor disputes, but when it comes to major things a different form of justice is called for.

In general? No. It is a barbaric practice that bases itself upon the thought that justice (/revenge) can only be achieved by doing literally equal harm to the criminal as he did to the victim.

I would like to think we as people and society have matured beyond such childish moral viewpoint. That we'd rather be more willing to forgive and forget, or in the cases where that is not possible, to settle for the criminal facing incarceration and removal from the society whose laws they couldn't follow.

I've always been one for rehabilitating criminals so they become useful members of society. Y'know, what prison is supposed to do. Too bad it doesn't work.

An eye for an eye leaves the whole world without depth perception, at least until the second time.

Well I'm reminded of a quote, well I heard it from The Flash in Justice League, but that doesn't make it any less valid. It went "An eye for an eye just leaves everyone blind."
On the other hand I believe that those who commit major crimes should be punished for them, and I mean punished severely; none of this slap on the wrist crap we've currently got going.

Well, do unto others as you would like in return. If someone intentionally broke my leg, I would break theirs.

lol. It's actually something Gandhi said, but yes I agree. The Flash is a smart man.

These things actually vary from case to case, as with all things. However, taken in a more literal fashion...if you take my eye, I will take your friggin' life, and that's AFTER the torture scene. There is a certain line with me that should never be crossed. If you try to ruin my sight, my hearing, my legs, break an arm, or other things that would require lots of misery and rehabilitation...then I would want you to die and horribly.

It's not even a philosophy - and no, I think it's absurd, regardless of the situation.

No.

When the crime is immaterial, as in it's something else than "You took my stuff, I will now take some of your stuff", it is a punishment that doesn't benefit the community and it ought not benefit the victim and thus a punishment like that isn't justifiable.

If you ARE somehow pleased to do physical or emotional damage to another person, you possess traits that aren't beneficial to our society, our culture, our... ANYTHING. Rather, they're usually harmful as they lead to more crimes against other people. Therefore, why should any society support and encourage the usage of these traits?

I want criminals to repay by contributing, not by becoming victims themselves.

It depends on the crime.

I feel that it is unecessary to always enact some kind of equal vengeance everytime someone calls you a dick or other more mundane problems. In those situations I mostly just shrug and don't care.

However, if you kill or rape someone dear to me, the legal justice system can go fuck itself. I'll gleefully torture the guilty party to death and happily do any prison time coming my way if I get caught. As long as I know that the person died a horrific, painful and violent death, I'll be satisifed.

Nope. Because I don't consider adultery being worth stoning someone to death over. In the middle east however, it's perfectly acceptable to kill a cheating wife.

Death warrants death. Cheating warrants dumping the cheating person and moving on to greener pastures...

"....makes us all blind."
Gandhi
Wise words. Though, I prefer this one.
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
