PFFFFFFFFFFFF

That's the minor part of vengeance. I always wish torture on people who gank me in WoW and later to camp me, for instance.

But than, I release a sigh feeling depressed, go afk and look up the Internet for some lulz.

OBJECTION! It actually leaves one guy with one eye while everyone else is blind.

OT: I've never felt the need for revenge, both in games and IRL. Even in New Vegas I happily partied up with Benny only to have him insta-betray me again :(

How do you feel about this philosophy? Are you against it? Are you highly in favor?

I'm personally for it in most cases. I mean sure you can think up crazy ass scenarios against it, but say in general?
As an overal short-term guideline (not rule) i am in favour of it, because it makes sense and is fair. Beyond short-term.... so, doing it for the sake of doing it without any goal beyond that, is just plain stupid, because in the long run, it makes all involved lose.

An eye for an eye...*dramatically takes off the pair of glasses I could be wearing*...leaves all of us blind *sparkly eyes*

---

short answer, no. I prefer my own personal variant of forgive and forget which is more forgetting if forgiveness isn't an option (for whatever reason).

One brand of hate can triumph over another brand of hate. It's just a matter of hating the or party who hates you more than they hate you and use that hate to fuel you into enough violent acts to exterminate the opposing party altogether. :)

In general? No. It is a barbaric practice that bases itself upon the thought that justice (/revenge) can only be achieved by doing literally equal harm to the criminal as he did to the victim.

I would like to think we as people and society have matured beyond such childish moral viewpoint. That we'd rather be more willing to forgive and forget, or in the cases where that is not possible, to settle for the criminal facing incarceration and removal from the society whose laws they couldn't follow.
I agree.

In the most simplistic of circumstances, sure it works. That said, when it is applied anywhere outside of it's narrow range it reveals itself to be the primitive, and simplistic thought process that it is.

I.e.

I stole your cookie, it's reasonable that I should procure a new cookie to replace the one lost from your possessions.

I killed your friend, it's reasonable that you should kill one of mine. (Eugh...)

I do not favour it in terms of criminal law, government policies, or physical actions, but very much so in terms of private verbal and social interaction.

If you intentionally break another's leg, then it's a physical, criminal, government matter, and humane incarceration - for an extended period of time - is the way to go.

If you proclaim that gay people are inferior, then I believe you yourself should be treated as such in all social interactions and in how you are spoken to and about. Nobody can make a claim to greater respect or better treatment than they're willing to extend to innocent others.

An eye for an eye and the offenders will be the victims and the victims will be the offenders.
If you seek to bring justice, dont confuse it with revene because revenge will just make you no better than the original offender.

eye for an eye lacks imagination, if I pay someone back they won't have the opertuinty to do anything ever again.

revenge is better thought of as compound interest.
