In Australia at EB games you will find brand new games cost $120 australia dollers which is $98 American dollers.

We are the ones that get ribbed off all the time from video game companies, and they say they can do this because people still buy the over prived games

I think games are expensive enough as it is, and this is probably just going to cause a ton more piracy, and Activision will either:
A: Drop the price, or
B: Wonder "Oh my dearie me how could this have happened?" and go bankrupt.

Excuse the French, but Activision can eat a dick. I was looking forward to this game but if they're going to fuck us over just to see how much cash they can squeeze out of my already bare pockets during a fucking international economic recession then they can go suck a car exhaust.

If I can't find it the same price as every other new game, £39.99, they can go shove it up their asses, because I won't be buying it.

That has really annoyed me.

I'm just going to side with Activision for a little bit...

But what if everyone buys it regardless of price and then companies realize good games are worth investing in?

Lots of companies are churning out games to make a quick buck, but if they see the success of Modern Warfare, wouldn't that motivate them to change their habits?

Plus this would literally draw the line between first rate triple A titles compared to anything else.

But I actually won't be buying it. Unless it actually explodes your TV from being awesome, of course. I'm just saying I have enough of FPSs for awhile.
Even if that's true, it's no excuse for shoddy PR and flat out telling people that they're price hiking just because they can. Given the best intentions, there is NO way that sort of strategy is going to go over well with their consumers.

Well this would be a good time to buy it for the pc. Although activision is charging these absurd prices, if anyone looks at game.co.uk they are offering the pc version for 35 quid on preorder, so i say get it for the pc and support British game retailers!

EDIT: http://www.game.co.uk/PC/Action/FirstPersonShooter/~r339836/Modern-Warfare-2/

go support these guys for giving you a decent price!

Edit#2, I am not associated with game or trying to advertise for them etc, i just think that they should be noted for not bowing to absurd activision pricing strategies
Hah! I was going to cancel my pre-order from my local GAME after hearing this news. Glad I waited.

Still wonder how Steam is going to price MW2 though, and Play.com.

Play have it at £44.99 preorder which is still £5 more than most! COD 4 was at best "MEH" in my opinion and i've no doubt this will continue in the same vein!

The thing that's concerning me is when the apocolypse is going to begin surely EA slipping from the most evil throne is one of the first signs?

Probably millions of people will still buy it, but I'm definitely going to wait for it a few months. I hope this "test" fails and the game sells poorly, so future games won't be as high-priced as this one.

I hope the British gamers import this game or, better yet, pirate it in record numbers. Activision is really acting like a bunch of dicks lately. More than usual, I mean.

To be honest steam seems a bit up and down, they still charge a high price for modern warfare and i dont really see how its justified since you are cutting out physical media, distribution costs etc. Play may charge a reasonable price but that remains to be seen. As far as steam goes they will prob charge the full price

I thought maybe it was a test of irony: to see if any of the Sony execs come out and demand for a price cut or else they will no longer allow for activision games to be published for playstation.

Unfortunately I'm sure this will end up being very lucrative for them and just another rip off for gamers; I guess we really have proven ourselves to be the biggest suckers huh?
Massive Irony.

What if Activision asks SONY to subsidize their Price increase and offer the game with a cut price PS3?

Bobby Kotick can bite me. I wasn't too annoyed now I think he's a hypocrite.

Yes.
Then sony could later sue to keep the game off the shelves completely.
Mega Massive Irony.

Paying more because the technology is more advanced? Then why are today's computers and cars and televisions practically the same adjusted price as in the 80's? With all of this advancement, they should all be priced in the millions. "Advanced" tech is simply "current".
