Battlefield may be good, but it's not a COD killer. COD defined the FPS experience of the last five years, rightfully picking up where Medal of Honor left off. I just don't see how Battlefield can top it.
You might wish to re-think that my man.
BF2: June 21, 2005
CoDMW: August 6, 2007

It's obvious who took queues from who.

It's already won the crown for me. Well in the sense of multiplayer it has.
Single player was better in MW2 than it was in BC2.

Surprise? Bad Company 2 is just so much better than MW2. Not to mention it didn't try to screw everyone over on the PC. It has dedicated servers, it has admin tools, and it won't cost me an extra $10.

Not to say that BC2 doesn't have its flaws, because it certainly does, but I would play BC2 over MW2 in a heartbeat because it is really just a better experience.

IN case BC2 "kills" MW2, i guess it won't be so bad for infinity ward... i mean they did already make bigger shitlaods of money on MW2 sales than any other game (or film or cd) has ever made, so even if the majority of players move to BC2, they'll still have made enough money to wipe their asses with them and not care.

Hah! No pressure, Battlefield. Here's hoping it sells really well, although it's gonna be hard to outsell MW2.

Oh, right. I forgot it was about Battlefield vs. Modern Warfare, not COD. Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

Does the pointless over-use of corporate jargon in that statement make you

a) feel completely freaking sick at what the games industry has come too

b) that they are trying to convince themselves and shareholders that what their saying is true

c) all of the above

I've worked in that field and you can use that shit to spin anything anyway you like, i'm not convinced at all. But hey, more choice is only a good thing, lets just hope they dont run each other into the ground.

Eh, either way you look at it, Battlefield was first.

BF1942: September 10, 2002
CoD: October 29, 2003

Even then, they are 2 different game types. As mentioned earlier, one is run 'n gun, the other is team/squad based. That and BC2 is better than MW2 :) (sorry, couldn't help it)

I wouldn't say it defined the entirety of the FPS experience. Like others have said, its mostly run and gun. Run and gun is not everything FPS are about, although its a really fun part of it. Besides, COD won't stay on top for ever. Something new is going to come up and dethrone it if Battlefield doesn't.

I'd give it another 2[small]1/2[/small] - 3 years at most for COD's reign [small](not based on conjecture, just a gut feeling)[/small]. Or until Halo: Reach comes out. Never underestimate how huge the Halo fanbase is.

Killer this, killer that, blah blah blah.

There is only one real truth to be had here: Battlefield is the WoW killer.

Battlefield is going through the same paces that Modern Warfare went through when it first came out.

In other words, all the media attention is centred on it and it's being hyped up to be the messiah of current releases, destined to take us to the shooter promised land (am I the only one who remembers back when people were saying how awesome MW2 was going to be? Nevermind the rush of people getting it and praising it when it first came out, along with this being the case when Halo 3 came out, and Gears of War 2 and many more).

Battlefield hasn't so much 'killed' Modern Warfare as it has taken it's place in the great gaming circle of life (cue the Lion King music) and given enough time, it too will be 'slain' by an even newer game once we get tired of Battlefield (and we will get tired of it).

Despite the fact that both games play completely different, they are still pitted against each other? ._.

They are two completely different types of game. I prefer the frantic action of MW over Battlefield. To me BC2 just feels like a smaller unfinished version of MAG.

Remember when Battlefield and Cod used to co-exist peacefully?

Why now must they be ruthlessly pitted against each other in a battle to the death?
Because the current gaming climate is focused on the mega-franchise. There can be only one.

That is, by the way, also the reason why most AAA titles these days are sequels.
They're completely different styles of shooters, which makes me saddened to see them being compared. And there's a certain audience for both I believe. If they could co-exist, that'd be great. But I think they'll both try to pump out sequels and spin-offs trying to out-do each other till we get bored and some random new IP becomes the most popular because it's different.

I believe it--not because the campaign was any good (Jesus Christ no), but because it seems to have a very solid multiplayer element.

I once thought that BC2 would clam my tumor of MW2. I was right for about 2 weeks..... I'm already back to MW2.

Modern Warfare killer eh? Why would dice need to steal back a crown they've had for years. Sales wise who knows; but Battlefield has kicked Cod's ass is multiplayer since 1942. Team Fortress 2 is the King of all Infantry combat. Battlefield has always been top dog when it comes to combining vehicles and Infantry. Hell, Halo still out does CoD in in game features(Like theater) and community features like Bungie.net. CoD 4 was great and MW2 may have sold well, but they really can't hold a candle to some other franchises.
