Ancient Aliens

It's like intelligent design, fill the gaps in our scientific (in this case historic) knowledge with "God" and then go to lunch, it is the laziest form of science and history, the only evidence for it is that it is very difficult to 100% dissprove something, because no matter how much evidence there is for something, if it isn't completly bollocks then a few thousand people will believe it, all with the benefit of having to do no research or study, why bother when "god/alien did it" fits fine

My brother watches this show, it's mind-numbing.

It's also insulting to human ingenuity. "Those idiots could never have done it, they were simple minded dirt farmers."

I was watching a marathon of this show on the History Channel last Wednesday and I have to say that the show is just absolutely ridiculous. I found myself just shaking my head at every single thing these "experts" said because it was just ridiculous. The episode I found most egregious was the one where they said that all of the mythological creatures in every ancient civilization were actually real. Not only that they were real, but they were the results of genetic experimentation by the aliens. I just found myself shaking my head at the episode the whole time because they used a recent story about the Montauk Monster to prove that it is true.

My problems with this episode and show in general is that its "experts" grossly underestimate the capabilities of humans and the human mind. I believe that most of these "experts" on the show think that just because they are a human from 5000 years ago that they are dumb as stumps and couldn't have possibly come up with anything on their own. Also more specifically to the episode the Montauk Monster looks like it might have been a sea turtle that lost its shell somehow or another animal that died and spent a long time washed out at sea to make it look like it did. My point is that most of their claims of aliens can be dispelled with just a little bit of critical thinking. But these "experts" just throw up their hands and say aliens did it because its the easiest way out. They still get famous and they had to do little to no work to get famous.

Its an interesting show to watch, but if you take it seriously you're probably a very dumb person.
