Michael Atkinson, that speed hump disguised as a politician and the source of much Australian Gaming woe, has his political seat up for election. The group Gamers for Croydon are running against him. Atkinson has dismissed this group, saying 'They will resort to CRIMINAL BEHAVIOUR and DIRTY TRICKS, the sort of behaviour I have come to expect from gamers.'
I am employed as a POLICEMAN! (I really am you know) I do not display criminal behaviour! (We can debate that elsewhere).
ANgrY!!!!!

This was in the news like more than a week ago, and I heard that he stepped down from going against an R-18 rating in Australia. [EDIT > this was wrong]

Basically, this.
I suggest getting one that looks like Agent 47.

I wonder how that guy's political career will end...

No seriously, is he gonna be impeached or step down or get voted out of there or what?

No, what he stepped down from was something completely different. He passed a law recently in South Australia making anonymous comments about the upcoming state election illegal. THAT is what he stepped down from. The current situation with R-18 games (and in South Australia, movies) still stands.

I'll take care of him for a fee if you like.
My fee is either an early copy of FF XIII or a PS1 memory card. Take your pick.

OT: Being British, this shouldn't concern me but it does a bit for some reason.
He sounds exactly like our newspapers. And our national newspapers are full of shit.

Why does this guy hate gamers so much?
Hes a conservative, he is old, he is an asshole...
The list could stretch on but I think it only gets worse from there on in. I really hope Gamers 4 Croydon get the seat, but I dont see it happening this election. Unfortunately if all they are doing it for is for R18+ rating on games I dont see too many people voting for them. They should tackle some other issues to win the public over and have the R18+ thing as a side mission.

I have 2 PS1 memory cards in it for you if you make it painful. I'll even pay 1 in advance.

don't worry. atkinson is headed for the deepest, darkest planes of Baator whether he is aware of it or not. does anyone else find it amusing that POLITICIANS, members of the most corrupt and vile of all human organizations, condemn things like video games as the source of human misery? ((while pocketing money from various interest groups so that said interest groups can poison the air, food, water, and minds of our planet))

You're expecting politicians to be truthful? damn, i wish i was that naive. I've heard from a lot of Australians in the gaming world that this guy is just trying to advance his career but releasing antigaming propaganda and using "dirty tricks" to make the gamers seem like sinners.
Good luck with this D-bag.

He... He what? I haven't been in Australia so I'm a little behind. I'm not sure he'd do that, it'd be like george bush admitting the iraq war was based on bullshit after all. (Lets not get into that because I used it as an example)

And they wonder why our generation is so messed up.

OT: If I were an Aussie, I'd vote against the guy. As far as I have heard, he doesn't show any good qualities besides the fact he is with the times on what to hate on.

Yep, way to prove Michael Atkinson right. I used to love games, but now these gamers have shown me how playing them leads to violence and idiocy I'll be voting to keep Atkinson in power. Thank you for showing me and the world at large that my hobby creates homicidal brain-deads, and that it needs to be stopped.

I was only joking, you do know that, right? I admit, given the topic and the entire situation it wasn't the best but I only mucking around. Please don't judge me on one comment I meant as a joke.

Same here. I know alot of non-gamers who would make similar remarks.

Yeah, I know, I'm just a mite irritable about this.

The reason he tried to make it illegal to post anonymously (I think) was because he'd received about two trillion bucket loads of death threats like these on blog comments and forums and what-not. And I can't say I blame him, making death threats is illegal, it being the internet shouldn't be a defence.

Our culture as a whole is being attacked we should be rallying against it to show the world we're not all violent sociopaths, instead we're responding with infantile threats and murder plots. Some of which are in jest.

Sorry I got all uppity at you, not your fault, I just need a nap, as I get all crotchety when I've not had my nine hours beauty shut-eye.
