I wonder how that guy's political career will end...

No seriously, is he gonna be impeached or step down or get voted out of there or what?
I'll take care of him for a fee if you like.
My fee is either an early copy of FF XIII or a PS1 memory card. Take your pick.
Alas, I have no money for a new game and my last PS1 memory card got "lost" (stolen) about 7.5 months ago. I guess I can't order a hit today.

Look at this as an oppurtunity. Remain calm and collected, and then you can show the world how very wrong he is.

What you Antipodean Gamers need to do is band together and stand against him. His stance is pathetic and misinformed. If gamers stand together as an intelligent collection of socially adept individuals (Hard in Australia, I know ;)), then the misinformed will soon see this politician for what he is. An over-reactionary, out dated, Victorian throw back. He is only a politician. You just need to put your opposing argument across.

Damn I hope that guy gets caught in some political scandal and is kicked out of office, forced to be a manure farmer, and mauled by a wild animal before falling into the manure and dying a slow horrible death from the infection. I may be in the US but I don't care where you are, if you mess with one gaming community by god you mess with all of them.

But seriously political scandal, someone should frame his ass or something.

OT: Being British, this shouldn't concern me but it does a bit for some reason.
He sounds exactly like our newspapers. And our national newspapers are full of shit.
See, you're missing the point. Our newspapers are meant to be full of shit - they don't keep us informed about the important things, that's what Heat magazine exists for, to let us know which terribly important celebrity is fucking/divorcing/doing blow with which other terribly important celebrities. They exist purely for entertainment, or in the case of the Daily Mail an outlet for our nation's rampaging xenophobia.

The only paper I buy these days is The Sun, because it's hilarious to read them screaming about the evils of and then presenting a totally contrary opinion a page or so later. I admit, it does worry me somewhat there there are people out there who can read a tabloid and actually think it's news rather than the opinion of people who probably never finished school, but what can you do except laugh?

OK was this guy touched up by a game disk when he was 4 or something, really what is is problem most politicians use scapegoats for a while then move on, I get the image that a piece of cake goes missing and he runs in yelling 'The gamers stole it!' while wiping crumbs from his mouth.

And of course, his statements are inaccurate and show his ignorance of the subject he blindly hates.

But considering the amount of negativity he is receiving its only a matter of time until he is forced to step down and allow someone sane to step in.

I was only joking, you do know that, right? I admit, given the topic and the entire situation it wasn't the best but I only mucking around. Please don't judge me on one comment I meant as a joke.
Yeah, I know, I'm just a mite irritable about this.

The reason he tried to make it illegal to post anonymously (I think) was because he'd received about two trillion bucket loads of death threats like these on blog comments and forums and what-not. And I can't say I blame him, making death threats is illegal, it being the internet shouldn't be a defence.

Our culture as a whole is being attacked we should be rallying against it to show the world we're not all violent sociopaths, instead we're responding with infantile threats and murder plots. Some of which are in jest.

Sorry I got all uppity at you, not your fault, I just need a nap, as I get all crotchety when I've not had my nine hours beauty shut-eye.
No, I believe you've made a very valid point. It's something I've always found rather ironic about the situation. Indeed, I thought many of the jokes were said ironically, then I realised that most weren't. The only reaction people had to such an event was planned murder. While anyone, 'gamer' or otherwise may say a similar remark, people need to learn that they will, against generalising bastards such as this one, be a representant of their entire sub-culture. People need to realise this.

While I'm sure the above examples were either ironic, or a joke, they still won't help the cause.

It's oxymoron day! :D

If you tell gamers to do this, you'll get half of them giving some ass-halfed excuse and then going into an echo chamber here or on 4chan, and the other half will ***** about how they "have" Asperger's syndrome and you can't possibly expect them to do something social.

Then again, I'm American, where most of our kids believe they'll be either video game designers (with no programming experience) or pro athletes (when they're 50 pounds overweight). Hopefully Aussie gamers are different than the majority of our idiot ones.

Yep, way to prove Michael Atkinson right. I used to love games, but now these gamers have shown me how playing them leads to violence and idiocy I'll be voting to keep Atkinson in power. Thank you for showing me and the world at large that my hobby creates homicidal brain-deads, and that it needs to be stopped.
And thank you for proving me that no matter what, an idiot will always try to act smart by misinterpreting obvious sarcasm and going on a long, boring rant about it.
