I have many friends who live far from my home, different countries, different continents even. I can't give them shit.

That is a great feature but the problem is that its not in a vacuum and comes packaged with all the other problems, if Microsoft added the ability to digitally "lend" a game this way to the existing 360 tomorrow it would be awesome. If the Xbone had none of the other problems and worked the same as the 360 does now with its used games and came with a feature to lend games this way it would be an awesome feature.

As it stands though the Xbone has nothing but restrictions with this feature being one of the few good things about this new semi digital future Microsoft have dreamt up.

Well Microsoft, you can't run a business like that forever, just look at EA. They realised that they have to at least try to change their public image, especially these days with information spreading like wildfire across the internet.

I'm personally a little disappointed there was no direct questioning about the Kinect. I'd love to hear Microsoft stuttering when someone asks them why the Kinect is even mandatory if it (apparently) can be completely turned off.

Oh I can field that one for you. The kinect is a neat little piece of gadgetry that no developer has found a really good use for. If it is in every new Xbox some developer is going to find a way to make it work in a cool way. Basically if you build it, they will come. I'm sure it will happen, because the stuff people have hacked the old kinect to do is pretty cool. Does anyone know if the new device will still need a massive amount of room to work?

But that 24 connect rule sounds like a real pain in the ass. Also all this shit about the "cloud"... Look I'm a hard drive whore, I love as much storage space as possible, but I hate the idea of putting any data into a space I can't physically hold in my hands.

They're right that this is the future of gaming, but it's too far ahead of it's time I think.

I can see how the 24 hour connection could be a pain, but not really for anyone with money to waste on a luxury item like a game console. As for the cloud, cloud saves are awesome, I can play some XCOM on my desktop PC and then continue the game on my Living Room PC, it is pretty sweet. Storing games themselves on the cloud though why would you ever have to? If you are a Hard Drive Whore then the XBone could be the console for you, while it only comes with a 500Gb drive it has USB3 connections and you can use external drive space for anything the internal drive could be used for.

Of the two main consoles I'd probably buy the XBone, because I like a device that can do a lot of things, like be a games machine, a media centre, a PVR, all that stuff. It's just I don't like consoles, and I already have PCs.\

I wouldnt be so sure look at the Wii remote and the WiiU screen not much innovation there even the DS touch screen didnt do that much for gaming and that actually took off. People hack all sorts of things to do cool stuff but thats not what it does for the layman.

Well Internet is not dependant on the wealth of any individual is it I cant just buy internet unless I am stupidly wealthy and can afford a new house where the internet is good or can pay someone to lay cables to connect me up. Also cloud saves and games could be cool but why is it a neccessity why not give people the choice instead of forcing them to do something they might not want to or even be able to do?

If you like a device that can do a lot of things then the PC is the best but really there is not a lot the Xbox One can do that the PS4 cannot and vice versa its only Nintendo that are resolutely sticking to games but I believe even the WiiU has media capabilities now.

Good interview by Joe though especially for an improv one but with the exception of the game sharing (which seemed largely pointless as its just replacing a system that is better and easier unless you want to lend games to someone a huge distance away) Major Nelson answered nothing just trying his Jedi mindtrick with the Xbone is the future, dont you want to come to the future with me and Xbone is family crap.

I just dont get why Microsoft are so adamant that stripping people of their choices is such a good thing they could have added their so called plus features without gutting the other stuff then it would be a bonus instead of a hindrance. Cloud gaming may very well be the future but not for many years to come it wont.

I just want to address this particular issue, as it keeps coming up time and again, and it's so disgustingly wrong that I really feel that it needs to stop.
"If you can buy a console, you can afford the internet because obviously you're rich". Well, no. Some years ago, I was quite literally homeless. I spent nearly a full year couch hoping between my mates while I tried to find a job and a place to live. The only possessions I had with me where my clothes, my second-hand Xbox and my portable black and white TV.

When you're broke and living off of government hand-outs, gaming is literally the most cost effective method of keeping entertained - no exceptions. I had three games: Halo: Combat Evolved, Morrowind and Deus Ex: Invisible War. I poured over 7,000 hours into Morrowind, finished Halo more times than I can count on every difficulty level, and yeah - I even finished Deus Ex: Invisible War over 15 times. I lived off of noodles, potatoes and butter, and spent a year playing those three games.

I'm doing quite well for myself now-a-days, but I'd have lost my mind or worse if I didn't have black and white Morrowind on my terrible little TV for all those months. And, trust me, I wasn't alone in this type of situation. I still know a lot of low income families who save their spare money and buy their kids consoles. Why? Because it's cheaper in the long run. No cinema, no restaurant meals, no iPads and laptops, and certainly no fucking internet. But an Xbox? A Playstation 2? That's cost effective entertainment to an insane degree for low income people, and it'll continue to be so thanks to Sony and Nintendo.

But, because they can't throw a few grand a month on Xbox Live rubbish, Microsoft have decided that they no longer deserve that kind of entertainment. That if you can't afford the internet, than you don't deserve to be entertained at all. Because, hey - what kind of disgusting animal doesn't have the internet, amirite? #dealwithit

Agreed but they could have coached him a lot better. The only "pro" he kept coming back to is their family plan and how you can interact with anyone across the world by gifting them your game once... uh what?

The point about The Witcher 3 and how Poland will be region locked is a huge kick in the nuts to Microsoft. I hadn't heard about that until this interview and I cringed when AJ brought it up.

I watched this last night. Gotta say that I have a ton of respect for Joe. He really tried to ask some important questions. And they were all from hi fans, too. Which is a good thing since he could get answers to what we wanted to know. That question about Witcher 3 and Poland was gold.

On the other hand, Nelson seemed to get very mad near the end. Joe was being much more respectful than I would have and Nelson cut him off, took the mic from him, and deflected legitimate questions left and right.

And how many Cross Platform games will take advantage of the Kinect? It's a completely different system from the Playstation Move (which even Sony isn't forcing down people's throats) and would be difficult to program two completely different systems for both systems. Just ask the Nintendo how that went for them and Third Party games. Very few games actually will take advantage of this system. You're basically being forced to take something that will get no real use among many people.

This is a terrible argument. You're basically saying that people who don't have internet access for one reason or another are to blame for being unable to play XBone. No, that's on Microsoft.

Maybe you aren't aware that there are plenty of countries that could have gaming systems, but don't have the infrastructure to support strong internet connections. Even in the United States there are rural areas which don't have great connection options. I've met several people with Dial Up connections! Even talked to a guy on this very site who had a Dial Up Connection just last year.

What about people in the military? They may not have access to good internet service where they are stationed. Like on a Naval vessel or Afghanistan.

Believe it or not, that online connection requirement is a terrible function. It treats you like some kind of criminal just because you dared to buy the system.

Now, I have a good connection. A friend literally came over just so he could use my connection to download some things a while back. It's pretty stable and reliable. Even when it has gone down, it's only been for a few hours. But I still don't like this. It's Microsoft telling you that you don't have any rights as a consumer and acting pretty elitist towards those without connections like mine, or better. I can at least have some empathy for others in this and not blame them for not being able to "afford a luxury device".

Anyway, I'm going to go see if I can preorder an PS4, now.

I have to respect Nelson for giving Joe the review especially on such short notice but yeah it did piss me off when he was like "are you a lawyer" or "are you an engineer", of course not but he can still ask those questions you ass. Joe is such a bro though, props to him for getting the interview and asking those questions especially seeing as how he was by himself and is just some guy from Youtube. People should watch the discussion video though it sheds alot of light about what went down when the camera was off.

That was rude and it almost makes up for all the times AJ interrupted him. I like when AJ rants but he needs practice as an interviewer.

Major Nelson avoided most questions and that was annoying. I'll admit that sharing games with 10 friends is awesome but the price is just too high. 24 hour check ins and limited used games sales just aren't worth it. After all, if I wanted a friend to try a PS4 game, I could just loan them the disc and if they lived across country, they could just rent it for a few bucks.

I like some of the ideas the Xbox One is bringing to the table, such as the ability to share a digitally downloaded game with a friend across long distances (although it is more like gifting than lending). Unfortunately, they shouldn't have eliminated playing a game from a disc as an option for a number of reasons.

I keep seeing this argument, it's completely daft.

More than half of all the 360s sold have never been connected to the internet, ever. Of the 46million Xbox Live user accounts created since it's birth (that includes the original model's players and multiple accounts run from single consoles) less than half again pay for Gold. Three quarters of the Xbox's current user base either doesn't want or can't have Live Gold (or a broadband connection to support it, possibly).

Consoles are mostly bought by people (or let's face it, parents) who aren't hobbyists and won't stump up the cost of a fast* broadband connection ad-infinitum. Also, the one time cost of a console is tiny next to a stable broadband line, the majority of the 360's sales came at under the $300 mark, the PS2 at under $200, one time cost for hardware. A broadband connection in the US averages over $500 per year**, on top of $500 for the console, $60 for XBL and $55-60 per game since second hand sales are blocked or price limited at ten percent.

That makes the first year cost of a Xbone, one new game and Live to be $1200, $560 each year after assuming one game per year.
Who can't afford that? A Hell of a lot of people actually.


* The Xbone will demand a minimum 1.5mbps connection or it won't work, that's the minimum between the console and home, not the speed of your line, so you need faster than that.

Except here is the thing. Steam is Digital. Owning a Physical copy is not. So when I am told that I can't do what I want with my physical copy, then there is a huge issue.

Fist of all, games are always digital, the disc is just a carrier for the content. And if I buy a piece of paper with a Steam code on it, is that a "digital" game or physical?
Second, games bought directly on Steam are digital, but there are many retail games that require Steam. And once you insert that code in the program, I'm pretty sure there is no turning back, the disk becomes as useless as it can be.
