I gotta say with respect, this Eddie was an idiot. He should of sent 50 bucks to represent the cost of the PC game and not the attempted inflation by activision.

I want in on that.

So...why did he do this? He just wasted $60. He won't get anything for it, and he's giving an insignificant amount of money to the developers of Modern Warfare's homely cousin. Aren't gestures that are both wasteful and stupid so noble?
I will remind you that MW is the spawn of BF2! Never forget that!

I have a favor to ask: Will a PC gamer quote this and explain WHY dedicated servers are a good thing and better then peer to peer? I'm not being a smartass, I'm just not a PC gamer, and am curious to know what this is all about.
Well some times dedicated servers will render big (or small) close-nit communities. Which can be really great. You can choose so you NEVER have to worry about lag. Admins can keep control over them kicking and banning idiots, pirates and hackers. If a brilliant mod is released (say Counter Strike) you can create a server for people to play your mod on.

This is not only because of the dedicated server deal. It's the anti-mod thing they are doing. A mod like Counter-Strike or Poke 646 can really give you more out of your game. Even some custom maps, skins, stories, quests, models and rules can give your game more life. Removing those things and dedicated servers... well it's like removing 3/4 of the game... THEN CHARGE MORE FOR IT!? What do they think we are? Idiots?

Anyway, dedicated servers really improves your chances of a proper lag-free match by... well you are sure to get what you want. Support for dedicated servers and a proper serer-list is the best thing in the world.

In peer-to-peer it's really a gamble.

Thank you much! That gives me a bit more insight. For the non-PC gamers, it as hard to understand exactly what was going on...

I've seen some of some of the mods for COD4 and Half Life/Half Life 2 before, and they looked really fun.

I honestly think they are trying to do something they feel is better (or Activision is being a bunch of doucebags as usual), BUT, being a marketing professional myself, they should have listened to your community before making the decision, OR, if they really can't do it from a technological or cost standpoint, at least give that as a reason...

No they don't, they really don't. I still don't forgive them for Tiberium Wars.

It's about principle, can't just get rid of options for a stupid reason.

It pisses me off to see people taking something for granted that I don't even get in the first place!

It's not that bad, the game is still perfectly playable. You just have the equivalant of a console servers. I think the PC elitists just don't like it because they now can't brag about their best selling games being superior.
A lot of people don't like it when one of there favourite parts of multiplayer online is taken away and replaced with something they don't like. If everyone just didn't care then they would get away with anything.

Also I am so sick of this PC gamer/Console gamer crap, it used to be just gamer. The reason a lot of gamers would buy a game for computer instead of the console is because they preferred it. Dedicated servers and what not made it a better experience.

The reasons they've given so far aren't that brilliant:
http://www.fourzerotwo.com/?p=745
It's full of BS.

All this boils down to is that they want to turn games from US into China. They don't want you to make mods, new custom maps, replacement skins and so forth. They want you to buy and download their stupid ass DLC instead. They just want you to pay them a lot more then you should.

They are just being douche bags. People will accept this because they are apathetic. Console gamers were naive or apathetic. They hardly have any freedom at all. They just throw cash at everyone who asks them to.

As a gamer of both PCs and consoles I really dont like the tone of your post. Every purchase I made for either PC or console,I still use.I may not agree with the way it was done as a whole(some "DLC" should be free depending on the game) but I was hardly just throwing cash around.
As a console gamer I take offense..

Well you go ahead and do that. ()

But you don't feel offended every time they expect you to pay more for less? Then ask you to pay again and again for a tiny bit more? On consoles prices might be different because of different licensing. However developers now, when they realized people will accepted it, release less game and charge the same. Only to make you pay even more for a tiny bit of DLC.

Now they will be trying harder and harder to do the same to PCs. I feel bloody offended.

DISCLAIMER:

Am I not saying all PC gamers are like this I just know a few that are like that.

Now where did I put my flame shield......
Imagine all new tvs didnt let you choose what channel to watch. Instead the remote just has one big button called "match making" it then randomly selects a channel for you.

If you want a different channel because its put you on the Weather Channel, you must either sit through the whole program before it works again, or turn the tv off and on again!

If Infinity Ward was any lesser of a company, I hope they realize that everybody would hate them. They are just so lucky they have their army of consumer zombies.

Hahah.

I had a good laugh at this. I'm not a PC gamer, so I don't particularly care, but if he thinks his $60 matters to DICE, he's probably quite mistaken.

Then again, maybe more people will do this and it will mean a lot more, but that's a horrible longshot.

BF:BC is a pretty damn good console shooter. Hell, I'd say its my favorite. kicks so much ASS!
and this 60$ thing is creating GOOD publicity for DICE and B-company 2, so i do not think it will be a mistake.

although i sure as hell wouldn't do such a thing, because i have better uses for the 60$ i'm not spending on MW2 (BOOZE!)

An interesting idea to say the least - it's amazing how badly Infinity Ward have seemingly messed up - no PC dedicated servers, no Party chat on the 360 version...

Two key features for each system - they too have lost respect in my eyes if the following issues remain simply because of how out of touch they seem to be with the majority. I'm not angry enough to cancel my pre-order because it's a move I can live with, but that's a great gesture by the "Angry PC gamer", even if the article did appear to mock him towards the end.
Finally, something we can agree on.

I was never really interested in MW2 to begin with, but I guess some just have to take it a step or two above the people like me and really send a message to the folks at IW.

I'm not very "gung ho" about CoD games, I prefer them over Halo, but I'd never go and actually buy one. Valve has kept me pretty content.
