I have a favor to ask: Will a PC gamer quote this and explain WHY dedicated servers are a good thing and better then peer to peer? I'm not being a smartass, I'm just not a PC gamer, and am curious to know what this is all about.
Well some times dedicated servers will render big (or small) close-nit communities. Which can be really great. You can choose so you NEVER have to worry about lag. Admins can keep control over them kicking and banning idiots, pirates and hackers. If a brilliant mod is released (say Counter Strike) you can create a server for people to play your mod on.
This is not only because of the dedicated server deal. It's the anti-mod thing they are doing. A mod like Counter-Strike or Poke 646 can really give you more out of your game. Even some custom maps, skins, stories, quests, models and rules can give your game more life. Removing those things and dedicated servers... well it's like removing 3/4 of the game... THEN CHARGE MORE FOR IT!? What do they think we are? Idiots?
Anyway, dedicated servers really improves your chances of a proper lag-free match by... well you are sure to get what you want. Support for dedicated servers and a proper serer-list is the best thing in the world.
In peer-to-peer it's really a gamble.
