Anime suggestions?

A lot have already been mentioned so I'll try to avoid them...
-The.Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (a wonderful and beautiful anime)
-Clannad, as a person who doesn't really like the whole romance genre I can say I love this anime, it's got humor(loads of it) times of joy and sorrow, can really recommend it
-Mushi-shi, you wouldn't believe me even if I told what it's about.
-Monster, a story not for everyone, about a Doc who's been framed with murder by a psycho.
-Last Exile, a steampunk story that will keep you nailed from start to finish.
-Rurouni Kenshin is indeed a wonderful anime and I've seen all the episodes, half of them twice, but I suggest you watch the hyped OVA's and see why it's still in the anime hall of fame.
-Soooo many Gundam animes have been made it's hard to count, but this is one that's definitely worth seeing the most out of them all.
-Code Geass, while it's been mentioned before I simply can't not offer it because it's a masterpiece. It's like if Death note(which is still my Nr1 anime) had a child and it spent it's entire childhood learning the good parts of sci-fi anime...
-I've watched Berserk twice and I can say that if you don't mind and actually like a guy chopping hundreds of guys with a sword that would put Dante's to shame you will like it, while it's story doesn't have a lot of depth (at least until the ending that rams you like a train, face first) it's a great watch.
Also if you like a very dark and mysterious story then I suggest either Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Gilgamesh or Ergo Proxy
If you're more interested in movies that don't take up a week of watching time I suggest

- Perfect Blue, don't stop watching after the first fifteen minutes, this movie gets its point across in brutal fashion. Heavy on the drama with little action though, take that as you will.
- Paprika, sheer graphical fun with a weird twist from the same creator as the one above. Way lighter material than Blue, weird twist on a GitS-like premise of man-machine mind melding.
- Dead Leaves, some of the most insane stuff ever put to film, imagine one of those hyper anime scenes and then string that out for an hour with no moment of pause or rest. Look up a trailer on youtube. Yes, that's really what it's like. For all you who advised him to watch FLCL: you need to see this.
- Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, classic, an iconic character you really should get acquainted with for an hour and a half. Great artistic style.
- Jin-Roh, slow paced alternate history tale set in nazi Japan. Apparently this was the last anime ever to have been completely hand-drawn. This is an original tale from Mamoru Oshii who directed the two Ghost in the Shell movies (If you liked the first GitS movie I'd recommend you check out Oshii's Avalon (non-animated movie) first and this second).
- Miyazaki movies, in order I'd recommend: Howl's Moving Castle (fantasy), Princess Mononoke (fantasy action), Spirited Away (magical), The Cat Returns (magical) and Laputa: Castle in the Sky (fantasy). All of them brilliant fairy tale works.
- Ninja Scroll, same as Vampire Hunter D but even more of an absolute classic.

- Tekkonkinkreet, apparently awesome, still need to track it down.

Worth remembering that the "idea for" Afro Samurai was basically "An anime with Samuel L. Jackson in", the rest is just an excuse.The Great Fa said:

Bleach is awesome, which remains me I really need to pick up on that anime again. Actually I may just mouch of some suggestions here since all I watch now is Naruto and Bleach.
Naruto is better in Japanese then translated, mostly because the phase "Believe it!" is never once uttered... thank the gods. That show still has a tendency to drag out a battle to extraordinary lengths.
I'm watching Hajime no Ippo (the new series) right now. It's a great anime. You can check out the manga if you want. The manga probably has the best representation of motion I've ever seen in print. Everything just feels kinetic for some reason (I do not know what the last statement means).

Gundam 00, the first season anyway, the second season is getting a bit out of hand but its still good.
Spriggan, must watch, do it lol. First 63 eps of bleach are pure awesomeness, everything after the Ichigo/Byakuya fight is crap and full of filler eps (they piss me off). Great Teacher Onizuka is a classic =D.
Elfen lied is just awesome, watch it, its like 14 episodes long short and to reiterate: very awesome.
I love FullMetal Alchemist, Lucky Star, Love Hina, Negima, and Haruhi Suzumiya. Ouran High School Host Club is also pretty cool.

But yeah, not too into Shounen anime to tell the truth. Shoujo anime just attracts me for some reason, to the point where I get so involved I don't care if I'm being weird.
Detective Conan is a good manga series, but I never saw the anime.

No one is going to respect you by dissing something with poor grammar and spelling and failing to offer any suggestions in a topic designed for that express purpose. You say you'd rather watch the 4th season of Bleach yet don't contribute a single suggestion? How ignorant is that? TC isn't asking for manga, he's asking for anime. I saw you had Hellsing, but I'm guessing that's only the Hellsing anime; not the OVA. Go to you tube and look up Hellsing OVA 1. Awesome.

Well, good sir. I just watched through the first series of Kanon. It is considered something of a classic. The first series are 13 episodes, and later they did a different version of it which lasted 24 episodes. (like many animes do)
I have to say, after watching the original and taking in the entirety of it.. it is a masterpiece.
I would have to categorize it as drama/romance, and it might bore you in the beginning.. but it does not take long to fall for the lovable characters.. and then sincerely sympathise with them.
Some time soon I shall take to watching the remake, after healing this emotional pain. x)
I get bored of Naruto and Bleach, the typical Shounen animes, and they also last waaaay too long. They should just die with dignity, like masterpieces such as Fruits Basket had the good taste of doing.

Guess we're two peas in a pie. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is just.. pure genius, and Ouran is a lot of fun, as is Love Hina. (only too bad it has become so popular and sold itself out a bit) I have to say I prefer Shōjo as well. So much more depth. First anime series I completed was FMA, but I do not find a need to categorize it. Same thing with Full Metal Panic. (<3)Jonathan Hexley said:

It's a great show but I'd avoid spending money on it, they're going to be making a better version more in keeping with the Manga in April, same everything just with a better story.Patrick_and_the_ricks said:
I'm kind of an old-school anime fan who's just getting back into it after six years or so, so most of my recommendations are from 5-10 years ago:
Record of Lodoss war is good, especially the first 8 episodes of the original OAV. The last 5 feel kind of rushed (the OAV was based on a series of 8 novels: the first 8 eps are based on the first novel, but the last 5 summarize the plot of the last 4 novels so they are very thin plot-wise). The Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight TV series is okay, but a lot more childish than the OAV. I thought the Crysania OAV just stank.
Oh, and Slayers is great fun for D&D-style action and humour. One anime magazine I read said "Lodoss War is the kind of epic story you want your D&D game to be. Slayers is the kind of kill-the-bad-guys-and-take-their-stuff plot your games are actually like."
El-Hazard is a lot of fun. The first OAV is the best. The second OAV is okay. The TV series has its moments.
Vision of Escaflowne is pretty cool, at least the first two-thirds. It's basically a D&D-type setting with mecha that are powered by dragon hearts. I think it's technically a shounen series and has its share of romantic plot, but if that's not your thing there's enough action and intrigue going on to make up for it. The movie is decent too, but is a completely different take on the characters and plot.
If you can find it, Haunted Junction is hysterically funny. It's about a haunted school and the student council, who are ghost hunters.
I totally agree that Rurouni Kenshin is the best samurai series ever. The Kyoto episodes are the best, but it's pretty good overall.
Check out Nadesico and The Irresponsible Captain Tylor for fun sci-fi anime with good action.
Ninja Scroll is a classic and the best film in its genre. Everyone should see it. Don't be fooled by another film called "Ninja Resurrection". It's not a sequel to Ninja Scroll and it sucks. There's another one called "Sword for Truth" that claims to be as good as Ninja Scroll. It's not--stay away.
I like Gunslinger Girl. It's about 12-year-old girl cyborgs who conduct brutal assassinations, then have tea parties where they discuss their lives. Some of my friends found the tea party parts dull, but I think the gunfights more than make up for it.

The only problem was the version my friend has had badly mixed audio (it was hard to hear dialogue over the music and explosions) and there was no subtitle option. Newer versions might be better.

So far people have already sold Monster, Elfen Lied, Welcome to the NHK, GitS:SAC, ect.
I loved Claymore personally. It starts out as a "girls with swords" anime but starting with the Ep 5 it goes from good to addictive. I still find myself waiting impatiently for the next chapter every month.
If you just like the manga, some creative soul put the chapters on Youtube set to music which makes for a novel way of reading a manga.
