I find the lack of Fairy Tail and Katekyo Hitman Reborn disturbing...

I love Durarara!! D Gray-Man and Katekyo Hitman Reborn! I don't watch too much anime, I read lots of manga though, I watch what I read though (with the exception of Bleach, Naruto and One Piece)

Fairy Tail and Durarara!! are still my faves.

Dude I love Fairy tail, Durarara and D-gray man.

Also Hitman Reborn is my favourite anime show of all time. My room is full of the manga, character figures, posters and I even have my own set of Vongola rings.

Oh yes, I've seen Ergo Proxy. Doesn't really rank amongst my favourites though. Might need a rewatch. As for PA, I've been meaning to see that. Thanks, not heard of Another before.

Good grief... it's you(!) Didn't realise who I quoted there... ' Thing is with Ergo Proxy is that you need a lot of... 'headers and footers' to get all the references, most of which are literary or philosophical. Pretty much every episode has a veritable tranche of intellectual references, particularly ep11 (the Mindhack episode) which remains my favourite of the series. As for Another, it's a mystery horror and can get rather gory at times... though since you like Higurashi, that shouldn't be a problem, I guess...

As for the second one... ehm... better keep that to yourself when around fans of the manga... still, I enjoyed the thirty-odd episodes I watched of it before I got distracted by other series...

I really can't bear voice acting that isn't from the country the series was originally produced in. That goes for any media, really.
And I just can't handle how English voice actors sound when they do anime. Particularly the women. Don't know why; there's just something off about it.
Plus, I think Japanese is a prettier language.

Also, there's the fact that we subtitle everything except children's movies and series here in Norway. Dubs are seen as a children's thing (even though we have very good dubbers at times).

Hmm... I should do that. It would definitely brighten up my day... and I can do the same thing with the Gurren Lagann soundtrack and walk around all pumped up and throwing my fist into the air.

That's dangerous.
If anyone throws a frisbee in your general direction, you're practically bound to grab it and throw it at someone.
And I don't think you'll be able to pass a traffic cone without shoving it in someone's face and shouting "GIGA DRILL BREAKER!"

Well the anime was fantastic so I'm sure the mangas even better.

But is it worth laying down the £300+ it would take to buy all 35 volumes? I know the series basically tells the mangas first 13 volumes, but I don't fancy starting the manga at volume 14.

Ha, only reason I'd say the manga is better is cause it's just more story that the anime never covered.

You could technically start from volume 13, the anime leaves out at least two important scenes (though not extremely important) that are followed up in the manga. If you want me to elaborate I will (they aren't spoilerrific).

If I had the money, I would buy all those volumes in a heartbeat, but you could always wait for the inevitable Omnibus editions.

EDIT: Also technically all animation is dubbed since animated characters wouldn't have voices otherwise. It's really a question of whether or not it's been kept in it's original language or localized.

It's all about getting used to it. huzzah for the 1st person to mention Dragon Ball! I thought I was gonna be alone on that one, I got into DBZ when I was a kid and I just never grew out of it,

Dragon Ball Z (and later the original series) was a HUGE part of my childhood, every day for years after I got home from school I would watch it, I would tape the episodes and watch them again on weekends, I found myself completely taken in by the characters the action and the soundtrack, I loved the story too, even if looking back on it now it is a little formulaeic

also, *raises flame shield* I...like...Naruto! admittedly no one likes it immediately, I hated it to begin with but after having been forced to sit through some of it by a friend it started to grow on me, the soundtrack is awesome, the characters are mostly likeable...you're about to think "filler" aren't you?....y'know what? I don't even mind the filler...it's not that bad, it might not be something I'd watch more than once but it gives minor characters a chance to shine, some of which I like, (Rock Lee is my favorite)

Death Note was just awesome, the characters, the storyline...everything...and it wasn't too long either...admittedly it did decline in quality towards the end I think but still awesome

In all seriousness, we're three pages in and only ONE person has mentioned Darker Than Black!?!

This needs to be redressed!

Ok, so I'm not a huge anime person, in fact, if it wasn't for one of my friends practically forcing me to watch it (though his tastes differ substantially from mine) I probably wouldn't have any. But Darker Than Black I would say is one of the higher quality series I've seen. The animation is absolutely perfect in it, and while the premise might not be entirely original, it carries it off far better than something like Heroes.

Also, the end of the second series I just find absolutely heartbreaking.

I really really enjoyed the first Hunter X Hunter anime. I really really wish it didn't stop where it did.

Exactly the same with Beserk, the ending was cool and all, but why the hell did it have to end?

Also, Full Metal Alchmemist, the only anime that gave me a satisfying ending, ignoring the movie.

Plus Naruto, it had it's good moments, and rarely it's really good moments, until the ton of filler episodes.

Gurren Lagann: all you realy need to know is that these two giant robots end up throwing galaxies at each other

Elfen Lied: This one caught my eye by the box art. This girl has 4 invisible hands that she uses to kill people

Gantz: Never have I been so embarassed to watch an anime especially when there is an abundence of tits and sex, not so much and not so graphic that it would be classified as hentai though.

I have three favorite animes:
-Slayers because it was my first anime ever thanks to my brother. Gonna cosplay as Zelgadis [http://crzysmansion.artchicks.org/stuff/cels/Zelgadis05.jpg] at ACen next year.

Hell yeah slayers is awesome, get's a bit formulaic at times but still a great comedy


OT: Princess Tutu: Deconstructing Magical Girl shows before Madoka made it cool. Seriously beautiful music,wonderful storybook atheistic and a great subversion of fairy tale and Magical girl Tropes.The ending is wonderfully bittersweet and the Raven King is terrifying. Plus Drosselmeyer is just plain cool.

Usagi Drop and Haibaine Renmei: Both for the same reasons: Slow thoughtful shows that tackle difficult issues:Changing lifestyles and fatherhood(Usagi drop) and Death/grief/redemption or nine hundred other things,there is a ton of symbolism open to interpretation,yet another reason to love this show (Haibane Renmei).

Baccano!: It's a fun show about fun characters having fun. It's a great time,and the prohibition era setting is cool.Baccano!'s way of telling the story is unlike anything else,it's hard to describe so I'll paraphrase the box blurb "Characters and Storylines don't cross, they collide".

It's spiritual sequel Durarara!! is an OK show but just doesn't capture that magic that Baccano! has.


Lastly Time of Eve: I simply love this show, Yasuhiro Yoshiura is an unsung genius at his craft. A great exploration of what our relationship with robots would be when they get to the point of being life like. It builds a believable world with realistic characters in what would take some people an entire season to convey,he does it in under two hours.Episode 4(Doll of Eve) is one of the most heartbreaking things I've seen. Seriously, watch anything you can by this man,it's great.

There are a few more(Penguin Drum,Revolutionary girl Utena,Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei) but I'll leave it at that. Also before everyone gets their panties in twist: I like Madoka Magica, I just don't think it's the best show ever. Still very good just not this godly show it's fans make it out to be.
