Claymore and Blood+ were pretty good. But that's just my preferences, everyone has different tastes in things so you may or may not like them.

Also Hellsing. Hellsing is awesome.

so far, the only animes i've seen are Death Note, Akira, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and season 1 of Code Geass. I loved all of them, but really, it all depends what you're after. Asking for anime reccomendations is life asking for western animation reccomendations, or live-action film reccomendations. It's a pretty varied pool.

Don't forget your daily dose of Lupin III. Every great anime owes a debt of gratitude to Lupin and the gang.

If you want to know a lot of the jokes then The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya would be a good place to start
Also I'll recommend to you what I recommend to everyone else, Clannad is rather good, and if you want something a bit gory then Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is very good.... and freaky
For a good place to watch then I say either anime shippuden or watch anime now are quite good

- NOT NARUTO (If you value your sanity. You won't)
Ok, I can understand most the original series, but I don't know a single thing wrong with Naruto Shippuden =/

Use Youtube as it lacks the malware found on most anime sites and that horrid Megaupload system, there are lots of great mainstream animes to get into but it depends on your ability to watch, you won't want to start something like Naruto now since it would take a long time to catch up and to a lesser extent Bleach, Death Note, Gundam, DragonBall,Cowboy Bebop, there's countless others that provide good lulz and are finished.

Death note. Why? Because it's not some kind of pokemon with stupidly dressed men/women. It's a psychological thriller that makes you think. It has no robots or panties. No women with huge breast. It's about 18 old man, Light, who's really smart and he doesn't like criminals, he thinks the world is rotting. And then there is this 'Death god' Ryuk, who's very bored, so he gives Light a Death Note. With Death Note Light can kill criminals (and any other human) by knowing their name and face. He start's killing people, but police are trying to stop him. It is really intelligent and you'll be amazed how they are investigating the case. Just watch the first episode.
Other one would be Elfen Lied. A very bloody tale about people who have the power to kill everything with their invisible 'ghost' arms. It's a very psychological too and sometimes it made me very sad.
And please don't watch Naruto and Pokemon stuff. If you watch they, you'll never want to watch any anime again.

I read Manga more than I watch anime, but there is usually an anime based off the ones I read.

So, I'd say: Gantz
- Because it is extremely violent, sexual, and it has good characters. Its about a 15 year old kid who is killed in a subway accident but is brought back by a sphere only known as Gantz to hunt down and kill aliens in a sort of "game"

Death Note
- Because its a very intelligent psychological crime thriller about a 17 year old kid, Light Yagami, who's very smart (apparently one of the smartest in Japan) and he's bored. A death god named Ryuk, who's also very bored, "drops" a Death Note in the human realm and Light ends up getting it. The Death note allows the owner to write any name in it, while knowing their face, and that person will die of a heart attack or however the owner of the Death Note sees fit.

Those are my two favorite series. Now, if you want movies, I'd strongly recommend Akira and Ghost in the Shell. I don't have to explain it, just watch it. Even if you don't like anime, you'll love these movies.

I'll recommend a where- virtually any anime producers have feeds you can pay for. Some you can try for free. As for suggestions, that's up to you. You might like Inuyasha, but find anything from Clamp too cheesy. You might think Death Note is edgy but Hell Girl too repetitive. Heck, Evangelion and Dual:parallel Universe might not seem the same, and the only difference is Dual is done by the guy who did the Tenchi Universe.

Long story short: try stuff out. Look at new ones. If you like the premise, go for it. And screw whoever thinks it's too silly/girly/kiddy/adult/ old to be any good.
