All this accomplished was giving people like Ajit Pai more ammo to justify screwing over the internet even further than he's already trying to, it's self defeating.

Explain. How does this help anyone at all, in any way?

On the one hand, this won't help anyone.

On the other, fuck Ajit Pai.
Pretty much this on one hand what happened to Ajit Pai was unjust and its not helping the pro Net Neutrality side look good on the other hand when you are going screw millions of people when it comes to Internet services and act like a smug d bag maybe you kinda deserve it.

I don't mean anything, considering I never stated my opinion on this matter. Vulgarity aside, all I did was say what happened: Ajit Pai messed with the internet, and the internet came back after him.

Well no shit. Look, killing net neutrality was going to piss people off anyways. But the sheer contempt Pai showed for the people he supposedly works for (watch that fucking video he released the day before the vote), that was unprecedented. Of course he's going to be under attack, at this point I'm amazed it's just doxxing.

Oh for fucks sake guys.

I'm going to shed no tears for Pai getting some much deserved flakk for his actions, but just thinking about it for more than 5 seconds would reveal just how counter-productive this truely is.

As ironic as this is to say, some people really need to actually step away from the internet a bit. As much as I love it, it does have a worrying dehumanizing effect, and doing actions that can seriously harm and impact others are reduced to just "shits and giggles", as if that's any real justification.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I fail to see how this is useful since hes already a public figure, most of his info can probably just be searched for.

That's a name I haven't heard in a long time. I remember when they were big news.

I"m not exactly playing a violin for the guy, but this is crossing a line.

Also, anon is still a thing? They've been awfully quiet the past few years.

Real talk: has anon ever done anything that enacted actual change, or has it always been this low-level, petty shit?

They certainly seemed more impressive back in the day, but maybe that's just me.

I've been looking at a lot of Republican sites. It seems like a lot of people don't have a firm grasp of what this Net Neutrality thing really is. These people are just happy that someone that has the same label as them did something. Therefore, they are winning.

This event can literally be spun in so many ways that their 'hero' at this moment can say "With the restrictions taken off the ISPs, they have more power to protect you."

Because if there's one thing older Republicans desire, it's protection from things they don't understand.

It was about to be a slam dunk for an unpopular thing that millions of Americans Bipartisanally disliked. Now. There's so much capability of spin that people will speak to their congress representation and demand more protection.

Great.

As far as I'm aware it's always been stupid, petty bullshit. They talk about doing big things, but then just pull off something that just hurts everyone involved before retreating to whatever shitty forum they inhabit for they next year or four while jerking each other off.

There's a place for low-level petty stuff, if it's done right, and Anon did do some decentish, if rather minor, stuff back in the day. But always liked to talk themselves up to be a much bigger deal than they are. Oh, and like V for Vendetta too much.

For all they used to talk themselves up did any of their childish antics ever accomplish anything. Because I don't remember it doing so.

Ajit Pai is a public figure. All of his personal information is already within the public record, there was no need to hack anything to find it.

Really, the purpose of a hack like this isn't so much to get that petty information, but to send a message that other information could also possibly be obtained. Today it's just an address and some names. But tomorrow it could be a list of major donors or evidence of some misconduct, something much more potentially embarrassing, and the place of actions like this in hacktivism is to send a message that "we're watching you, you can't hide anything from us".

As for the harassment angle, I have no sympathy at all for people who align themselves with the alt-right and then complain about harassment.
