Gah, people said McAfee was complete bullshit (which I did agree with), but now Norton? Is there ANY antivirus software worth getting?!?!?

Anyways, I fixed my sound problem (I downloaded a completely different sound driver after fumbling around with the original one Windows Update installed)

Thanks to all the people who were helpful (you deserve a hug). For all those people who weren't helpful...well...you can insert any hurtful phrase in...

WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL THE IDT SOUND DRIVER BECAUSE IT WILL CUT OUT YOUR SOUND!!!
well I dislike both norton and mcaffee. norton is okay, but its a little too invasive and archaic for the normal user (x application wants to access the internet. allow? most just click okay to get it out of the way) not only that Norton takes up a lot of system resources in the background (it runs like 17 different services)

Personally I really like Webroot Spysweeper with antivirus. very user friendly and has fantastic definitions for both viruses and spyware.

any antiviurs has their pros and cons, but you need to constantly scan your pc. I recommend 2x a week.

also, grats on getting the right drivers. that's what 1/4th of my job consists of
Geek Squad said to do it once a week...

It turns out Windows installed the bad audio driver through a system update, which I didn't authorize. Apparently I wasn't the only one who had this problem...

DAMN YOU WINDOWS UPDATE!!!!!!!

Anyways, thanks again...

Honestly, the anti-virus software you use doesn't really matter. Any reputable AV program will catch 99.9% of common viruses, though some like Norton are resource hogs. The biggest thing to combat viruses is just using common sense when it comes to internet browsing. Don't open email attachments and be wary of links that look suspicious. As for specific programs, I use AVG 8.5 and Spybot Search & Destroy. Both are great, and I've never had any problems with viruses.

I'd recommend switching your internet browser to Mozilla Firefox and installing NoScript. That set up blocks any web scripts from executing on your computer without your explicit permission.

NoScript: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

God damnit. I forgot all about ABP, which is odd since I've been using it since it came out. Second best internet browsing Firefox add-on ever.
