SO YOU ADMIT YOU'RE HIDING!!! I FUCKING KNEW IT!!!

But yeah, I can imagine that. I don't have a mic so I guess other than that whole using-my-name-in-conjunction-with-my-gender-as-my-username thing nobody would know if I was female.

Anyway, rest assured I'm now terrified of you... *cowers in fear*
Yes, I creep around in the shadows and ambush you when you least expect it! Mwhahahah!

Safe to say tho, I NEVER go to a games convention in a skirt. I usually looove wearing them cause their so comfortable, but female at games convention gets so many eyes its really uncomfortable... Baggy jeans and a sweater usually takes away all the focus =3. And if girl gamers in general are a bit like me, you see it's a lot of "undercover" stuff going on with us not actually giving ourselves away as girls.
So again... "yes, we are hiding from you Dave". But I can imagine it'd be weird. As weird as I find conversations with just girls about... guys... and stuff. I dunno, I try not to listen, it weirds me out. :S

Yes. Sometimes. I don't flaunt the fact that I'm a girl, and I don't want people to flirt with me in games because that's not what I'm there for. I wanna be treated like I'm no different from any other gamer, because I'm not any different.

With all that said, it should be clear that I don't draw attention to myself, right? My username doesn't overtly state that I'm female or anything. When I use a mic, I don't talk about stupid stuff. I'm focused and into the game. Yet, sometimes, when I speak, guys just lose it. Either they suddenly start asking me a bunch of questions, or more rarely, they get abusive and vulgar.

There was a guy last week who, immediately after hearing my voice, demanded I add him to my friends list. Throughout the game, every few minutes, he'd ask if I'd added him yet. After the game, he kept asking for personal details (where I live, my real name, etc.) That sort of thing annoys me.

I don't draw attention to the fact I'm a girl plus I never talk on mic. If I ever hear someone say ANYTHING about sandwiches to me, they're getting murdered in game.

Thanks for posting this QuestioN!

Its kind of weird that the Majority (and I mean majority) of guys who play games feel like its their own private secret thing they do that they can only do with guys. Its like they've made it up in their heads. Just like its weird for them that girls would be Programmers or IT or *Gasp, like comics.

What kind of stone age do they live in? Didn't we get past all of this a few decades ago?

I'm sincerely sorry if this might offend you or piss you off, and I know that this is against the whole 'equality in gaming between genders' subject we have going on here, but it's still a mind-blowing concept to have a person who openly admits to being a porn-star on here. Just...*head exploding*...although if you are the one from I Hit With my Axe that I'm thinking of, you did give me one of my favourite quotes I've heard on this site.

My friend does always say "It's weird that there are girl playing this" whenever one of the regular females are on the TF2 server I frequent. I then have to remind him YET AGAIN that some of the best gamers in the world are female

So... do I believe that? ARGH, I don't know! It sounds believable but... GUH! *mind=bent*

This is too much for me, I'm going to bed. But you'll be watching...

And now I'm more terrified.

I think I'd get more pissed at the insane amount of people asking about their experiences than the experiences themselves.
Ugh, it's kind of true? It's not angering but it's kind of boring at this point because when you're actually PLAYING the game there's no difference. In an FPS I click on people until they fall over, it's not like I do it with my tits or anything exciting like that.
Exactly, I fail to see how there is any difference whatsoever.

On a side note, I'm now trying to imagine how someone would do that.
It appears to be possible, but unreliable, given a wireless mouse.

I think it's quite the opposite, girl gamers get all the attention as soon as males find out they are female they start hitting on her. Unless, they are, of course, completely rubbish. L4D/L4D2 player here, rarely use mic in a random pub game just to avoid the hassle. Though the ratio of males to females are not quite balanced there are still a few regular female players in the community.

DAOC was the only game I encountered multiple female gamers. Surprisingly, a few of them were actually pretty good. As for misogynistic comments heard, I can't recall any. Though hearing a chic say things like "pwnd", "leet", and other such comments on ts/vent is always amusing and kind of sexy.

Most online gamers are on roughly the same level of life as Dracunculiasis parasites, except marginally less irritating. They're stupid, depraved, arrogant, ill-tempered, emotionally retarded, and fat.

I've seen WoW raids where EVERY SINGLE GUY in a ventrillo chat instantly started making disgusting come-ons to a girl as soon as they heard the voice and realized it was female. More than once.

Now couple that with the natural irritation and idiocy of online multiplayer. For those of you who don't do it, I can summarize it simply with "Grenade of Grenade 4: Grenade! Grenade!".

So all factors considered, is it any wonder why female gamers seem such an anomally?

...Do you get harrassed for being a girl in online matches? I do know that girls get hit on a lot or called a noob for being a girl, but does it really happen as often as it is rumored? I am not trying to defend those idiots nor I am calling anybody a lier, but this is the internet, and things like that often can get blown out of proportion. So, is all the rumors about girls being treated like dogs online true, and what do you girls do when you find somebody who is treating you like that?
I'm very social and chatty when I play and yes, it does happen more than it should.

Most of the issues come from young boys (10-14) who shouldn't be playing Gears of War or Call of Duty anyway. I do get the odd strange comment from older males too.

It's either "you're a girl and you suck" or "hey what's up? ;-)" and a friend request, flirty messages and general creepyness.

Generally though I play in parties and chat to people I know who are fine with it. So lately I don't know how bad it is :(

Maybe it's the game genre, my only real experience is with driving sims. There aren't that many female drivers around, but the ones that are tend to be bloody good, it only takes a couple of laps before flirting gives way to "Incredible lap luv, what's your wing setting?" :)

hmm. well i'm the worst gamer ever, so i definitely fill the female stereotype quite nicely.
the only abuse i've had has been from my brother, who upon my mentioning that i'd been playing original doom for session said "but... you can't play doom! you're a girl!" twas very funny.

The only real MP game I play is Halo, I know, shun the non-believer... but there seems to be more and more chicks playing which is pretty cool. The ones that flaunt it annoy me though. I don't think I'm really trying to hide that I'm a girl in my gamertag but the ones with pink hearts and barbie dolls are kind of annoying.

I usually let my husband use the mic. He gets made fun of tons though, his tag is Cougar Mangler and he just plays along with it and its really quite funny. That is until he starts singing along with the song from Robot Unicorn Attack all game because he's that drunk.

When I have used it and try and use a cheesy voice it just comes off as an impersonation of Eric Cartman so I use it to my advantage. Good times.

I really think female gamers should be a welcomed thing.

Hear that guys? Women actually like games. Some of you might have a chance.

Just sayin'.
I reject the notion that one cannot play video games and be successful with the opposite (or same if that is you fancy) sex. And that idea that the only common ground that can be found in discussing video games.

Bloody good? Female drivers? Was there a mistake there?

I don't see female gamers much, whether in the virtual world or in real life, but I don't underestimate them.
