Indeed, Spybot is a great piece of software.

I use it for my computer, and force my friends to download it and run a scan from it once a week because they're always like, "MY COMPUTER SUX CUZ IT RUNZ SLOO," and I'm like, "Maybe it's you that sucks" and they're like "NO I NEVER DO NUTTING CEPT FER GOA AN PLAY DEMZ GAEMZ AND HEHEHE LUK AT PRONZ" and I'm like, "You're an idiot."

Spybot-Search and destory removes all trace, i tried 2 other spyware removal tools which didnt work, but this got rid of it completely in seconds.
And its FREE!
Spybot S&D is a great spyware remover - slow, but very thorough. And yes, very free.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's had that happen. In the end, I had to reformat my computer to the spyware out and it now works like a charm.

For any of you who want a really good AV software to use, you should check out Kaspersky. You can get it for about £5 a year (one PC) if you look in the right place. It has a larger virus database than Norton as well. It's what I use at the moment and I couldn't be happier.

I have never installed any anti-virus programs. Even if it be freeware or any kind of software that is titled to protect your computer. I have my own, what you could call consipiracy theories, about this.

If I were to get a virus or something like that, which is almost impossible, I would format my HD. I use backups, its the best kind of virus protection you can get. If the virus is serious, then it would be a good excuse to build myself a new PC.
I like your mentality, kudos to you. I'd like to do the same but ive tried to make about... 5 DVD backups of my system (no spare HD, poor) and each one has failed itsself at the last hurdle ¬_¬

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products.php

First link. If this doesn't delete it, either go to the forums and ask for help or reformat your computer. This thing can delete most recent viruses, but anything old and it won't work.

Spyhunter can kill viruses like anti-virus 2009, but you have to pay for it. Malwarebytes is free.

And yes, it does work. I had Vundo and Zlob both screwing with my internet and login, which were both gone after deletion. So it isn't a fake.

Avast, eh? I used to use that but I prefer Avira Antivir at the moment.
Indeed. 'Tis a wonderful program.
Yeah, it's so lightweight I played Fallout 3 through an entire virus scan :)
I love people who know how to make a functional program that isn't a processor-devouring monstrosity.

Well, I've never received this... thing, but I still have some suggestions for AV support:

Again, Spybot S&D. Free, and it works.
CA Security Center. Has an additional spyware scanner, virus scanner, firewall, anti-spam, and... uh... something else I don't use, but it works pretty damn well.

Seems I'll have to check out this Avira thing.

I've been using Spybot for more than two years now, and it's wonderful - especially the Immunisation, Teatimer and the Tools section - being able to see at a glance what BHO's, Active X and startup programs are set up has been a lifesaver on more than one occasion.

I wholeheartedly recommend CCleaner as well, it really does get rid of all the crap.
