I'm looking for some freeware music programs. I would use Mario Paint, but it runs like shit on my computer.

Can anyone suggest some good free programs?

Do you mean sheet music making, music recording, music sample sequencing, MIDI controlling, what? "Music making program" is a bit vague.

I mean something like the program Music Ace that schools use. You put the notes down, and you can play them on your computer.

I dare say you're going to have to cough up at least some money. Programs like that are generally pretty involved and I don't know of a free one that's actually any good.

I think you could try Finale Notepad free.(Assuming the free edition still exists) It's good for charting things in standard notation and it converts to guitar tab.

Still not sure what you're trying to do with the program you're looking for so I can't help much.

Yeah, try looking around for a version of Finale NotePad. The last free version was 2008, and Finale stopped supporting it once they started charging for NotePad 2009.

Other than that, I got nothing. Sibelius and Noteworthy Composer might have free trials.
