I have Final fantasy tactics A2 and after i beat the first final fantasy tactics advance like 3 times with 300+ hours each i sold it to a friend in high school for $30. He kept begging me for the game but i told him i wouldn't part with it for less than 30 XD. I have played the beginning of the one on PSone but i didn't get to play much :(.
Have you played the original final fantasy tactics or the remake The war of the lions?
I mentioned i played the begining of final fantasy tactics for psone but i didn't get to play much. I don't have a psp so i didn't get to play the remake.

Im starting to consider getting the psp at the moment.

I don't wanna sound like a gushing fanboy, but I loved final fantasy tactics and if you get the remake for PsP you are getting essentially the same game with lots of marked improvement. i wholeheartedly recommend it. The story is deep and the characters are all great.

My issue is getting the psp at the moment... money doesn't grow on trees...

FINAL FANTASY TACTICS! Also, Advance Wars, and to an extent, Starcraft. Man I love me some Final Fantasy Tactics. Make sure to play the original on the PS1 or the War of the Lions on PSP, because the others, in my humble opinion, are not as amazing.

I love the FFTA and FFTA2 and wat ive played of the original is awesaome(I want to play more of the original!!!). I think the biggest difference is the fact characters don't die unless under specific circumstances. This makes the newest ones not very hard. The laws are also asinine sometimes but other times they make the battle more of a challenge.

Man, I don't know how anyone can like any of the FF Tactics games besides the first. It was a quite a jarring transition going from epic, Shakespearean plotlines to snowball fights and anthromorphic animals.

Eh. The story in the original is much better, as well as some of the fights. I found the class system in the latter games to be.... too limiting. I can't have a human monk and whatnot.

Vankraken pretty much said it all. I'd throw in Silent Storm and Silent Storm Sentinels, if you find the armour suits annoying there is a mod to remove them.

I love what i have played of the first final fantasy tactics and really want to play more...

The newer ones have a lighter tone and thats why i like them. Whats wrong with the different races besides humans?

The class system is limiting. I really don't know much about the original's story to comment on that. The Newer ones didn't have the best stories but i liked them. I don't expect shakespeare in every game i play.

I've seen places selling it for $10. If you see it don't waste your money.

Nothing, I guess. Suppose it's the crazy change in tone that I was most at odds with. They kept calling it Ivalice...but it didn't feel like it.

As i've said i didn't play very much of the original so thats why the difference doesn't affect me. I love games with a dark tone but i also love a series that realizes its a Fantasy and decides to have fun.

Yea pretty much any game listed here I would recomend myself, all the PSP games mentioned are quite good and I nearly shat my pants when I heard they were remaking Tactics Ogre.

I am glad people remember Knight Of Lodis, loved that game. Another good tactics game that was on the GBA was Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars, shit on of reading, but the combat is great.

Also, seeing as it looks like you are leaning towards the PSP, upon all the PSP game suggestions here I would like to add SOCOM: Tactical Strike to the list. It's a real time tactics game in a similar vein of Dawn of War 2 and Full Spectrum Warrior. Just look up gameplay footage, the game is AWESOME and if you really get into it (especially on hard), it's a really deep and challenging game. Now don't go expecting some epic story or anything, it's just a way of moving the action forward, but the gameplay is top notch.

It can get preyy intense, but being stealthy and quick really pays off. Here's just a snippet of gameplay:

God I love this game, even the escort mission.

Oh Oh!! and Warhammer 40k: Squad Command is a pretty good game too and it's on both the DS and PSP. Fully destructible levels, squad customization, and nifty challenge, the only big flaw the game had for me is you only play as the imperium of man and can't play as chaos marines or any of that except in vs mode I think. Still pretty awesome game.

Doesn't help you right now but theres supposed to be a Magic:The Gathering Tactics game coming out later this year. You might want to look into it for the future.

Yea it's not an RPG style game like the others listed here (although you do get "skill points" to improve unit stats), but in terms of gameplay it's just so damn good. The game is dirt cheap now too, like 25 bucks or less and there is a demo (complete with tutorial) for download so you won't have to take a gamble on buying it.

My friend who owns a DS seems like like the Luminus Arc games, so you might wanna take a look at that. And there is also Knights in the Nightmare which seems to be an SRPG crossed with a shmup, it's on the DS and is coming to the PSP.

Now if you wanna go old school, go download a ROM of Bahamut Lagoon for the SNES; that game was pretty kick ass. And don't fret over the stupid ROM issue, it's the only way to play it seeing as it never left Japan (there is a translated ROM) so emulators seem perfectly justifiable.
