The whole world? the world as I know it gone? No, I don't think I would like that much. Maybe I could stand it if part of the world ended, like maybe the states imploding or something, but I wouldn't actually want that to happen. Life is too hard now, and I have a feeling after an apocalypse or something it would get a whole lot harder...

I always figured if I was a person in a zombie apocalypse or horror movie type scenario I would be the one dying in the opening credits or even on the front cover of the movie case... thats how bad I'd be...

You know I really blame the movie industry for making the "apocalypse" a cool thing too happen.

Free advice, most of you would not survive, nor survive the aftermath.

Anyways, no. I watch too much Discovery Channel to want the world to end!

No, although I have a morbid sense of curiosity about the whole thing, so I just want to see what would happen and experience it to see what my life would be like.

I believe an XKCD comic tackled this idea on a small scale. Wanting to watch the world end is indeed just a natural human attraction to spectacle, I feel.

Here it is: http://xkcd.com/611/

And to people who can't read; the OP meant that he would find it interesting to watch the world end, not so much watch everyone die. There is a difference. Like the difference between watching a city get nuked in a movie or game and watching a city get nuked for real.

Kinda.... i mean i would even the playing field for everyone allowing us to attempt to make true equality in society.
In a sense that everyone would be dead...

A lot of people are under the impression that come the end, they would somehow pull out hitherto unknown skills and survive to repopulate the world when most likely they'd commit suicide once they've gone 2 weeks without the internet. That is if the world shattering destruction magically ignored them for some reason. Unless it's the beginning of a plot of a really bad survival game/movie

I would be rather pissed put it lightly seeing as I would still be in Uni and I don't wanna die knowing all those years of edumacation could've been spent having a particularly passionate wanking session and still amount to the same thing, a disappointing, sad anticlimax.

So no, I don't want this to happen and I don't hate my fellow man enough to want this to happen to the 7 billion of us on this rock

Edit:Though if something utterly spectacular happens and we all survive no worse for wear with little change to the world, I can honestly say the thought of witnessing and surviving an apocalypse holds a certain appeal

I do wish the world would end in December, but not secretly. The main reason is because I don't want to have to get a job. Or go to university.

The coward in me wants the world to end this year so I don't need to worry about finishing, or alternatively dropping out of, graduate school.

I'd rather die than have to trawl through the "OMG, LYK, AN APOCOLYPSE! HAHA END OF THE WORLD 2012! LOL! SOMEONE BE MY APOCOLYPSE KISS! HAHA CAMWHORING FOR THE END OF THE WORLD!" statuses that are going to fill mine, and every other poor souls' Facebook newsfeeds.
Oh God I never considered that. Hopefully it'll come early and interrupt it.

OT: Honestly? I do harbour some secret wish for it - just the wish that SOMETHING would happen. But maybe that's because I fear my talents are wasted on the bureaucratic mess society has become, where one can't succeed unless they know the right people. Global catastrophe seems an excellent opportunity to demonstrate my decisiveness and abilities as a leader.

Of course, the world might just explode, and I won't get that chance at all. And that would suck really hard.

No. I'm not an emotional wreck with social anxiety, so I would gladly like to live on. I'm 27, for fuck's sake. So many years left.

To the people who are emotional wrecks with social anxiety: Don't take 7 billion people with you just because you can't hack it. That seems like more of a 'only you need to die, really' scenario.
Hell, not even that. It's a "man the fuck up!" scenario. Failing that, do some shots.

I've got clinical depression and I don't want the world to end. Why the hell should you all want it to?

Wish for rich woman who will care about you instead. Or about finding hidden treasure. Or technological breakthrough that'll make work obsolete. There are so many alternatives, oh uncreative one. :|

Now to start i do not believe that the apocalypse will arrive in december 2012 . But i wish it would . Now i am not a person that wishes ill to anyone nor do i think that the earth is in such a deplorable state that we deserve to have the human race be annihalited ( well actually i do but thats not the reason). The reason is i would just like to see it happen. How many people would really be able to say , i am watching the end of the world .

I don't WANT to die , i am not depressive ( well not tothe extend to want to die ) , but if i have to go out well the end of the world seems like a pretty valid way to go out . But i would never admit this outside the internet .

Anyways , so Escapist , anyone actually hoping this happens? What are your thoughts about this apocalypse thing?
No because it's basically saying this:

"Life sucks right now FOR ME so EVERYONE should die."

There are some people out there who have good lives and just because I'm not happy, I really think it's stupid to wish that they would as well.
If you really want the world to end FOR YOU then there are plenty of ways to achieve that without an apocalypse happening.

Right now I would rather die than live as I see life as a massive pile of shit, however suicide is against my instincts and I'm not that selfish as to just kill myself regardless of consequences left behind for others.

An apocalypse in December would solve the problems though :)

E: I see someone saying but if your wish came true you've just screwed over a bunch of other peoples opinions. I would say it wouldn't make a difference as you will die and that's it. No recollection, no memory, no thought - no conscience left behind. Well that's my beliefs when it comes to life and death anyway, I'm sure many of you would disagree that it's like that.

E2: My understanding of this apocalypse is just total destruction, nothing at all left behind.

But are you actually reasonable? This is kind of the same thing with people who think everyone but themselves are sheeple, we are not the best at evaluating ourselves honestly.

On topic: No, there are few things in this world that would make me want to wish for the end of the world.

Not sure quite yet. I'll see how this year goes and if it's as crap as the last 17 of my life then yeh, bring on the apocalypse.

Sure, I'm slated to lose my job along with 400 other co-workers by April...the end the world would remove the stress of finding lasting employment again. I've also accomplished all my personal life goals so really it's fine by me.

More to the point though it seems nice to face the end with all your family. You'll all experience the unknown at the same time without having to live with the loss of one another.

Not to imply that I hate life...it's just that I have nothing to look forward to besides self serving pleasures like new video games, t.v shows and movies.
