In general, the human populous is pretty arrogant, stupid, and selfish. I wouldn't mind having to be free of the travesty that is the human race.
You'll forgive me for not taking you seriously. I have reference books on my shelf older than you.
If you think a persons age is enough of a reason to think their claims have no validity then you yourself should not be taken seriously.
Ok, it's primarily because of the ridiculous rhetoric used. However, being told by someone that young that "the human populous is pretty arrogant, stupid, and selfish" is like being confronted by some sort of carnivorous potato. You know, interesting but slightly ridiculous all at the same time.
I get that and I don't agree with his point, at least not in the all encompassing manner he stated it but being only 21 myself I found your comment slightly irritating, overcoming the age gap when having a conversation with elders can be a very frustrating thing. The whole "when you are older, you'll understand" mentality is a poisonous excuse to never have to see eye to eye with a younger persons ideas, now I doubt it is the type of stance you personally take very often but it is none the less a real issue.

No, but I admit, I am a little curious how it would end. Kill 7 billion people curious? No, but curious none the less.

Have something to look forward to and work toward for the first time in my life, because I actually bothered to try. Would be kind of a bummer if it ended now. Also, doom prophecies are inane.

Lastly, the wording of the topic title makes my brain want to evacuate the premises.

As long as the world turns into one big Capital Wasteland then sure.
I think the novelty would wear off after you got raped by raiders for the 4th time :p
Look at the bright side, you'd get a perk after that: Anus of Steel, repeated tearing of your butt hole by raiders has given you a plus to all defense for all damage received in the torso. The picture would be of Vault Boy holding his rear with pain lines coming off of it, while he winces.

No supreme cosmic entity from an antiquated polytheistic religion that died years ago is going to touch my world.

It's where I keep all my stuff.

Anyways , so Escapist , anyone actually hoping this happens? What are your thoughts about this apocalypse thing?
Nope. I'm not juvenile.

The only people who want the end of the world are folks who never grew up out of narcissism.

I'd like to be more open minded about it, but wishing the death of 7 billion people because "Life is kinda a drag." is totally retarded.

I'd be pissed if it ended.

I'd encourage an Armageddon where only a few survive. It will be an awesome display of human comradeship and survival. Also it will give the Earth a chance to start again.

I've come to the conclusion that the world will only end in December if I find success and happiness before then.

This is intended to be a reflection on my cynicism and bad luck, and not purely a self centered musing.

Nah, purely for the reason that the supposed 12/21/2012 the world is on My Birthday. While it would be a hell of a party, I really wanna make it to 21, so I'm able to buy booze.

After that, I will no longer care.

Define end. I am all for societal collapse. It would be a blast for me and my friends. However, I would rather it happened in the spring, my plan for survival is much more difficult in the middle of winter, although it's still doable in december. In some ways it might be better, but spring is overall the best.

Unfortunately, it won't. At least not on 12/21/12. I could actually see it happening. Lets say, some big earthquake hits somewhere, maybe even a tsunami. I can see massive numbers of people who the day b4 were like "ah, it'll never happen" running through the streets screaming "it's the end!!!!" and that might actually cause a big enough problem to break down society. For a couple of days anyway, it would all get fixed, but it would be funny as hell.

On the other hand, an end of the world or end of the human race would not be fun and I don't want them to happen. Not only do I like living, but I'm too young to even have a bucket list, much less start crossing things off it.

Dude I'm 22, I'd say the exact same thing about the rhetoric if it was being said to me by an 80 year old. I don't care how old you are, you can't go about sounding like Saruman. The fact that it's a teenager pontificating like Nero just rubs it in =D

No. I like taking my shits indoors in a bathroom with heating. Ending the world, or sending us back to the stone age, is out of the question.

Also: I'm not a 13-year-old who likes to think he's deep.

Yeah, a lot of people have apocalypse fantasies. It's why there are so many zombie films, especially the ones like Zombieland (which is, to clarify, NOTHING LIKE Shaun of the Dead).

But... no, then TES VI wouldn't ever come out. Yes, I just got to the point where I realised that this was the last Elder Scrolls game for another 4-5 years :(
I think I want an apocalypse like the one in Shaun of the Dead, so I can have the zombie-killing heroics but not the collapse in civilisation. Never being able to log into the Escapist again? Nooooo, count me out!
Yeah, I feel pretty much the same - a SotD apocalypse would be awesome!

Actually, now that I think about it, Shaun probably has one of the most realistic portrayals of the outbreak. A Z-Day cut short by the army destroying everything - because, let's face it, zombies are useless.

[sub][sub][sub][sub][sub][sub][sub]Now, how much do I want to bet you thought that was a link to the Cracked article... ;D[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]
I'm surprised that article hasn't turned up yet actually on this thread, I suppose zombies are only tangentially related to what we're discussing but usually by now some smart-arse would bring it up.

Seeing as we've already had a number of these threads since the new year alone, I'm starting to wonder what the forums will be like in December this year? I'm calling this one, I reckon it'll be probably be the Off-topic equivalent of Skyrim in late 2011 in the Gaming forum, or bronies whenever it first became big. In the weeks leading up to the supposed date misanthropes will churn out hopeful threads about what might happen, while others get annoyed and post endless threads about why it's a silly idea, eventually it'll all come to climax on 21st December... and when nothing happens, we'll go "huh" and move onto the next fad.

Sure it does. I've known plenty of depressed people that get angry when other people are enjoying their lives. They deserved a cock punch, but not from me.

What really is there to understand about angsty brats that want the world to end?
Well not every person suffering from depression is such a massive dick then. Depression is really common, then again so are... You're on to something!

The end of the world eh?... Well, I'd only ever dream of it if I could bring David Mitchell along too, so I could force him to do a real version of a series of sketches he did, which would relieve the monotony a bit :

I'm sure loads of people are secretly wishing for the world to end in some form. Hell some probably don't even bother to make it a secret.

The thing is, they think they are going to be one of the lucky few, the plucky band that survives till the end and reaches safe harbor. When really they are going to be one of the billions to die, cold and alone. If the apocalypse doesn't get them they are even more likely to be killed or abandoned by those that are survivors. Unless they have tits. I know I would drag my sorta-girlfriend along as far as I could make it even through she is useless in nearly every situation I can imagine.

It would certainly be easier that way... But no. I quite enjoy life for the most part. I'll admit to a certain morbid curiosity as to how well I'd do after total societal collapse, however.

Given that the idea is "the world ending" rather than "what if fallout was real", my money's on the "not too well at all" bet.

Reading all of the teenagers going on about how they'd quite like the world to end in this thread made me chuckle. Good on you, sir.
