Anyone else slightly excited?

London is burning. The economic giant of America is failing. Even nature seems to have become even more turbulent.

And yet, I'm a little excited, anyone else?

I'll tell you why. Change. The people of britain are finally angered to the point of mas riot, and America is no longer considered 100% safe for business. These events seem to summon a great upheaval in first world society. Change is painful, of course. Change can be dangerous, and not necessarily for the better, but still I feel almost lucky to live in such possibly historic times. I may change my tone if things take a further turn for the worse, but still, this is very interesting.

You know there is an ancient Chineese curse that goes "May you live in interesting times".
That's all I have to say on that.

These incidents are not signs of the world changing. They're just more incidents that show how screwed up things can get in the world. Worse things have happened in the distant and recent past and also going on now in the present that we sometimes don't even hear about.

'Nothing is more amusing than the suffering of others'. Unless it's happened to you, then it isn't amusing or exciting, then it's just bad. But nothing amazing is happening. Worse has happened in history, by far, so it's not anything to be jumping up and down about for being part of history. Besides, considering what most of history is remembered, being a part of the to-be history isn't exactly a healthy pastime.

Well I disagree, I think that there is already a good deal of social unrest in the good old U.S.A, but I'm not sure that it will truly come to the apocalyptic future that we're being shown by the media. I do however agree that we do need to overhaul our political system, one way or another, possibly through term limits.

I'm not saying that it's impossible. If the economy stablizes a bit, things should start to move forward. If we continue this stock dropping, we're going to be in trouble. Of course, if we could start producing again, I think that that would help slow and maybe even reverse some of the damage. But you have to spend money to make money sometimes, and the government doesn't seem to want to do that.

And I don't think we're going to see a revolution or anything. Us Americans are too much like sheep for something like that to happen until shit hits the fan in a major way. I wonder what the sides would be if a revolution were to happen though. XD

Until we figure all this out though, I'll just be sitting here. Stockpiling ammo. And cleaning my gun. And investing in things that I think will be sold once things start to return to normal. And if the revolution or some other such even happens, well, *checks scope* I'm a pretty good shot if anyone wants to cause problems. XD

I generally agree with you, but the worst that's going to happen to the U.S. is that it basically it becomes post WW2 Britain, i.e. a fairly devastated former world power that every other power in the world wants to influence. But its not going to come to that. In a year or two, the huge corporations, who have a huge amount of liquid capital squared away because they're afraid of the risks in investing right now. Assuming their isn't an enormous meltdown in the next year or two, the corporations are going to start having to invest in the people to raise their own profit margins. Once money begins flowing into the market, the U.S. economy will start growing at a steady rate again.

Though I'm not an economics expert, I'd say that once the market has calmed down again, investors will gain their confidence back and they will start investing again, keeping us from further economic downturn.

It's not so bad, but I do live in the grim lands of the north. Being slightly fascist in nature I'm hoping for some sort of medieval lash-back against the rioters. But shhh, don't tell anyone, they'll think I'm crazy.

I don't think America can move back to manufacturing, considering the global market, it's a tough spot to compete in and locally the Government will have to enforce REALLY strict laws to convince corporations to choose the more expensive local production.
Economists by and large believe that once you've gone from a manufacture based economy to services based economy you can't go back. The costs run too high, and you'll be at an unfavorable postion on the global market as a result.

Were really not in our biggest upset, we American dogs. The Market got killed yesterday but really it has seen much worse. Yesterday didn't even make the top 20 for all historic downs in the market. London is rioting for all the wrong reasons and has seen this before. Really I don't see much changing. Don't get me wrong I would love to see it but people have been here before and we will be here in future as well.

Neither are the British riots anything near top 20. Riots in Britain is like a holiday that comes around every 20th year or so.

EDIT: on the rioters: I would like to reinforce that I do not condone the rioters actions, but I feel that they are doing this, in a way, because they are angry. Yes there are some in the mobs just looking for trouble, but there will also be those who are simply too enraged to be ignored anymore. Even those just their for trouble are no doubt angered as well on some level. Stupid, selfish, misplaced anger? Definately. But simple anger nonetheless.

Excited? Really?
You can be "excited" about the situation right now if you were an alien and Earth was your enemy.
As with all the normal people here, excited is no the word I'd choose.

Considering I live in Lewisham and spent last night staying up until 3 AM with my windows locked, my curtains drawn, and a butcher knife by my side in case the rioters came down my street...no, I'm not very fucking excited at all.

Sounds like excited is exactly the word to use - just not in a good way; agitated might be a better one. I don't envy you, and fortunately it's a bit quieter in my city by I'm within easy walking distance of the town centre and have had police helicopters circling for the last couple of hours. Just glad I've got two layers of locked doors between me and the ground floor windows... and a room full of martial arts stuff around me
