Join some sort of sports club, go out with work/college/uni friends, anything. Many people moving to uni have a similar experience, but I've often seen it's best to start thinking about the new people you will meet instead of being umbilically attached to your friends back home. Not saying forget them etc. But don't constantly be calling them, moping for them and chatting to them as you'll just end up lonely.

I have some helpful advice: Go out and meet some people. Asking the internet won't help.
Agreed.

But because I'm having a good day:

I had a past girlfriend move to Australia. She hated it at first, as did I. Now we're both perfectly happy. It'll work itself out.

I don't know if it'll help, but keep in contact w/ home. Make new friends in the UK, but don't loose the ones you have in Canada. I'm sure ya'll are on facebook, stay connected man! hope that helps
